I know it's not specific to guns, but guns are a major factor to blame as far as why people have this sort of mentality nowadays. My dad has told me stories of how his family didn't lock the doors when going to sleep because there was no reason to. This was a good time. Guns were not a problem then. I wish that we could go back to that sort of thinking.

But yet when a man drunkenly runs over your family
We blame the man, and sometimes the alcohol. Of course it wasn't the car, it was being driven, and it's a tool! We use it to travel!

Did your dad, per chance, live in the ghetto? Or maybe in an area where there was a REALLY high crime rate, like parts of New York maybe? No? Wow that's surprising! 100% sarcasm

You misunderstand. There is no mentality for guns. What I feel while shooting down range, and what you feel can be totally different. When I'm on the range, I give 100% of my focus to the gun so that I can protect myself and others. I don't, however, think to myself "man, I am shreddin' that bulls-eye, I could take out an army of human beings!" That's not my mentality. That's the mentality of a mentally unwell person.

when was the last time an automatic weapon was used in these mass shootings?
its been decades lol. less then i can count on my 2 hands that happened in 100 years.
To be honest, I don't know, and it doesn't really bother me cause I know it's extremely rare
that said, I think the naval yard shooting had an automatic rifle but I'm not 100% on that.

You know what I hate?

everything
That's not guns
that's mental stability
guns don't drive people insane and push them over the brink, guns ARE the brink. A tool, if you will. Almost every killing spree I have ever heard of, the shooter had poor mental health, was unstable, and had some form of depression or social disorder.
Stop focusing on the "ban the guns"
focus on the healthcare, caring for people, humanity working as one, etc

Very rarely does a shooter have a reason. They just want a release or a dramatic exit. They also wear clothes when they go shooting, most drive cars to the area, they probably have wristwatches, glasses, etc? Can we ban those because a shooter used them? No. But we can ban a gun because it's a weapon of mass destruction.

Consider this:
In the last three decades, there have been 62 mass shootings. Humor me and say that's 1 shooter per shooting. The US population as of posting this is roughly 314,000,000. 314 million. 62/314,000,000. I dunno how many ways I can put this, the amount of people abusing firearms is so infinitesimally small that this honestly shouldn't even be considered a national crCIA, it's only a big deal because news media makes money by showing us all the ugly stuff that goes on. How many times have you heard of a school saved by a resource officer with a gun, or a concealed carry gun owner taking down a criminal, or a violent crime being stopped via self defense. Not on CNN I'll tell you that much.

You can't steal someone's gay marriage and fire artillery shells at elementary schools with it.
you also can't steal a howitzer and fire artillery shells at elementary schools
because it takes common sense to be able to operate
sorry sandwich, you won't be bombing any schools from a distance

See, trying to turn his comment serious doesn't work, because NOBODY has ever used anything more sophisticated than an automatic rifle for a shooting. And nobody will ever use anything like a mortar just to shoot it up and then die. It costs too much, too dangerous, too risky for a civilian, too difficult to get... It wouldn't be worth it. You are more likely to have it explode in the tube because you have no idea what you're doing. It's not just drop and launch to fire a mortar.

On that note, you also won't be stealing my guns, because they're properly locked in a gun safe with an electronic lock, the actions are stored in a separate, hidden safe, and the ammunition is in a hidden compartment.
Have fun playing hide and seek looking for gun parts like it's some kind of RPG or DayZ game.

Personally for me, I want a viking funeral. Expensive, oh yeah, but at the same time it would be one hell of a show, and then you KNOW people will remember you.

My bucket list includes:
1. sailing around the world via sailboat
2. building some kind of car from 1960s-70s
3. visit each continent (continents to go: South America, Africa, Asia)

I already overthrew the government. They've been working for me for the past ten years.
your due date is coming up Mr. President

Ahh, that's what they want you believe! In reality, it was I that overthrew the government!
that must've sounded funnier in your head
you've basically said "lol no it was me"
p. sure that's not how humor works

Really I think that everyone who wants a gun should have to go though a extensive system which would then decide whether or not the individual in question should be allowed own a license for a gun. Nothing bigger than sidearms.
That's funny because that's already a thing
it's great you know
we have these crazy things called BACKGROUND CHECKS that already exhist
But they don't do anything lol! They just check your criminal record, medical record, social behavior, other worthless material, haha! Not like it's done by a federal agency or somethi- Oh. Wait a second.

Edit: I JUST noticed your second part of that statement and had a good chuckle about that one too!

Ha yeah I know right? Because it would be terrible if criminals could find a way to fit a M1911 in their coat pocket because of their small size! Wait a second I own a jacket where one pocket is shaped LIKE a handgun... Oh no I could hide a sidearm! Well that's okay, cause a pistol can't hurt you as much as a shotgun!
Unless y'know, they hit me with a bullet, which goes completely unaffected by the gun itself, so regardless of whether it's fired from a rifle or a pistol it'll still loving kill you on impact
People, firearms aren't a difficult thing to figure out, just use some common sense please

except with a 120 drum you can kill more people...
You're a clown
120 rounds in a drum is the same thing as 10 magazines with 12 rounds each
120 bullets
10 reloads
Also means you'll focus on every shot and make them all count

Who dictates whose fit for this? Right wingers or left wingers?
Either way it's a bad idea
It's not about parties
It's about having common sense and gun sense

It doesn't matter if you have 10 mags and 12 rounds each or a 120 round drum
It doesn't matter if it's fully automatic or semi automatic, all it takes is training and a good grip

Don't you DARE think for a second that a semi automatic rifle is less dangerous than an automatic.
A 5.56 chambered semi-auto can cause just as much, if not more (due to accuracy) damage than an automatic 5.56
Go look up speed shooting, there are guys who try to empty out a .50 cal BMG in less than 5 seconds.

Every person who has guns should have mental health check ups every year or so.
I second, third and fourth this notion

Video games.
how ironic

That wouldn't really work for like the really paranoid gun owners who believe that the government would tamper with psychiatric care to get their guns taken away. It would be even worse because these same people probably do suffer from some sort of paranoid schizophrenia and would take their diagnosis as evidence for some sort of government conspiracy.
... what? That doesn't matter? If they are mentally unsuitable for a firearm, it doesn't matter if they think the government is communist, they wouldn't have firearms which is the entire point of his post

I think I may be getting the terminology wrong, but I still don't see why having to reload less wouldn't give you an advantage in certain situations. You are virtually defenseless for those five seconds, right? Wouldn't you want to spend less time like that?
You have these great things called legs that can move you around, that way you can duck behind cover to reload
It's a tough concept I know, but you'll get it eventually. It's not like you anchor there when you reload, it's not a difficult task like solving a puzzle...

And guns are simply the most effective means of killing to date. It's both short and long distance, the projectiles travel virtually instantaneously, you can fire a lot, you are mobile, and it only takes one bullet to kill someone.
Er. No. If you pit a trained swordsman vs someone who has 0 gun experience, common sense or just basic knowledge, the swordsman will win, simply because the ability to effectively use a firearm is reliant on the USER. Firearms cannot shoot across the planet "long range" and short range is a waste of munitions (knife/blunt weapon). Bullets are effected by drag, gravity, recoil, bad aim, etc etc. Aiming a pistol is HARD, you can't even jokingly say you can empty 12 rounds in 12 seconds and land every shot within the target area. Think about how short that barrel is.
You seem to have this idea that guns are the tell all destroy all of weapons, but they aren't. They can't fire heat seeking missiles or blow up churches with their pistol grips... They are just as lethal as a katana.
