Also more people have been shot by someone with a pistol than a rifle
http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/tables/20tabledatadecpdf
with no distinguishing between homicide, self defense, law enforcement, Self Delete...

I'm going to assume that's homicide however, due to the URL

I was talking about school shootings. Yes, at home you could have an advantage if you hear something.
that's why the idea of arming teachers is being considered. take out the resource officer and there's no competition, take out a teacher... well, my school has 100+, so you've got a LOOOONG ways to go.
Then again, someone shot his wife when she was making noise in the kitchen at night, but that's a different story.
1 man's fault =/= firearms are devil spawn! ban them all!

By power I did not mean "bullet damage", I meant faster-firing guns with large clips have a lot more killing power simply because there are more bullets to shoot, and faster.
STOP
NO
DON'T forget-
DAMNIT

I'm trying to restrain myself from calling you a moron but you're making this hard, so let's think about this together.

Man A has a machinegun, 100 rounds in his drum, his gun fires automatically, takes him ABOUT 5 seconds to reload, bang bang bang
Man B has a pistol, 10 magazines, each mag has 10 rounds, 100 rounds total, takes him about 5 seconds to reload, each pull of the trigger is a round, bang bang bang

there is no faster, there is no 'more deadlier,' that's bullstuff. making smaller magazines means I have more space in my pockets for more magazines, same ammount of ammo, reloading a firearm takes 5 seconds, I've seen trained military personnel do it in less than 3.

Doctors, cars, and tall buildings have other, more useful purposes (alcohol and pocket knives are debatable). The sole use for a gun is killing. It is a weapon, that's what weapons do.
I never realized that for the past 7 years that I've used rifles for competitive shooting, I've been killing paper
I should go repent for my sins
father forgive me for I have slaughtered all the paper

A gun is an inanimate object. It does not make choices. It does not decide who dies. The shooter does. If a gun is a weapon and therefor needs to be banned, so does Judo, Karate, Martial Arts in general, swords, bladed weapons, blunt weapons, as well as any other form of 'weapon.'

And if you aren't near the door? The shooter has the advantage in almost every case, except once someone hiding is more tuned into the situation and can fire back. If someone has a powerful gun with the intent to shoot up a place, he's going to succeed for a while. The issue is, we cannot take guns away, so until somehow there's a way to make it so everyone has less guns, arming people is the best means of defense we have at the moment.
I'm gonna break this down right quick babe hope you don't mind

No, they don't. If you are in your house, it's a home game. You know the turf. You know the turns, the halls and the doors. Clearing your head is hard, but you have to. That's how you win a fight. Not just fight fights or knife fights, any fight. War isn't just bullets back and forth. You have to think strategically how you are going to save yourself, and then others.
Odds are in a home situation, you will be AWARE something is wrong in the house before they reach, say, a bedroom door. If it's a front door breach and they've caught you off guard, that's another story, and then you run and duck. They may have the element of surprise, but you have those first few seconds that are going to dictate whether or not you go home or go to a hospital.

Do yourself and never say this ever again. This is the epitome of stupidity.
A gun is a gun. A .22 will hurt, and a .50 BMG will hurt (actually it'll probably just kill you from the shock alone, but I digress.)
If they walk in your house with a .22 pistol, they can STILL kill you just as easily as if they blew your door down with a 12 gauge. This isn't COD where you get hit points and a sniper rifle is a 1-hit kill if it hits the head. Bullets hurt.
If someone has the intent to shoot up a place, odds are concealed carry isn't the answer. There is no argument for that. If they walk into a mall guns blazing, you don't get a chance. You can only hope he misses, you have time to duck and then draw your weapon to get a sneak attack.

Can we work on banning doctors, alcohol, cars, tall buildings and pocket knives first

So because when I'm ambushed I cannot react IMMEDIATELY with 100% accuracy, I shouldn't own any firearms at all? There's no such thing as self defense?

In a good scenario, your firearm ISN'T your first choice. You go to disable the perp if they are in range, for example if your behind the door they just opened, you smash it into them and try to knock them out or at least topple them.

hey look monday have you actually ever fired a gun or like, heard one in real life?
calm down

firing accurately is tough
firing well is easy
his perspective is probably a little botched but he does have a fair point: average citizen vs a shooter that's already sighted in and ready to end your life, shooter wins

that said, concealed carry isn't meant to be an instant-counter-attack lol

And then there's what Tay said

I too, had to discuss the right to bear arms, for my Law & Justice Honors class... Not gonna lie, controversial topics are like half the reason I took the class lol.

I'm not gonna reguritate facts, here have a powerpoint modified powerpoint that has been edited to remove all names I built SUPPORTING gun rights
IMPORTANT - it's a multimedia presentation, so it's best to view it in powerpoint mode: it's a web-design interface, which is to say you can reach any slide, at any time via the buttons at the top on the navigation panel. Some parts are also interactive. Keep in mind I made this for a class, not for the forums, so some of it may be irrelevant
edit: can't attach the powerpoint, looking for an alternative way to post it
double edit: here's the link to a file hosting site, best I can think of... Like I said, view it in powerpoint mode

Summary of my view:
• banning guns takes them away from LEGAL owners, doesn't do anything to stop a CRIMINAL
• Our global population is 7 BILLION people. Of COURSE some of them are off their rocker and have an itchy trigger finger, this isn't anything new? Not like anyone has ever killed in the past, oh, I dunno, couple thousand years WITHOUT a gun?
• The purpose of the 2nd amendment is so that, in the instance of where our government becomes corrupt and turns against us, we can overthrow it. I'm not gonna talk scenarios because for whatever reason that never seems to work well on these forums, so here's this: Ukraine has strict gun laws. How bloody, violent and useless have those fights been? JUST today has the govt. said "alright we'll talk" after other countries have stepped up and said "yo knock it off"
• gun =/= ultimate killing machine of death and destruction. That will never be a valid argument. The owners are bad, not the gun. Forks don't make you fat, potatoes don't choke you, and the mayo jar didn't get itself stuck on your richard. In the wrong hands, yes, lives are lost, but that goes back to that 7 billion people thing. Not everyone can be 100% in the head.
• police have no responsibility what-so-ever to protect you, it is simply their MORAL responsibility. Further, if a cop is a mile away and you are half a minute from being mugged, don't count on your hard-working tax dollars to save your ass. The best you can hope for is a tissue, a "buck up kid, at least he only stabbed you in the arm..." and a trip to the hospital
• Did I mention the fact that they're already criminals so it's not like they listen to gun law anyways
• It is pretty easy to make a gun. Save, you can't make one out of some pipe cleaner and laundry detergent, but It is possible to make a gun with stuff you can find in an airport, let alone one with quality materials
• What are you gonna do? Knock on every door in America and say "gimme al ur guns!1"? I'd be willing to bet a majority of gun owners would hand their firearms over once provided proper paperwork, but to some people that's like a Ferrari. That you built. With your dad. Who died of cancer a week before finishing it. They won't wanna hand it over.

Who do you think you are? His mother?
Alright let him keep posting like that? See how long he lasts. I'm not doing it to be a richard, you of all people should be well aware of how 'welcoming' these forums can be, especially to new people. I'm not even the first person to try and explain the forums to someone, why is this a problem?

Also, why did you quote the ENTIRE post? Wouldn't it have just been easier to snip it

It's off topic, it's not the wrong section
best section? No. But it still fits the criteria. I'm not posting a gallery of images from BL, so I'd imagine it's not a problem.

Edit:
Apparently Badspot disagrees and moved the topic...
Now I feel stupid. :I

To be honest, that game is not my cup of tea, but if you like it, go ahead and buy it. I had this same problem with Starbound, I was stuck with the "And what if its not worth it?"

If you like the appeal of it, go ahead and buy it.

I liked the appeal of cube world
lags like forget, no patches, no updates, $20 and not ANY progress in 7 months, not even a news update saying that the dev was still alive.

So no, I'm not going to buy it on appeal, I want opinions on how the game plays and functions, how buggy it is, etc.
I will never understand why there is a Games section and yet people constantly post game-related discussions in OT

Theres also already a Banished thread in Games if you would have looked. Anyway the game is fun, Id recommend it.
Off Topic is the do-all-know-all sub-topic. I don't even bother with the other off topics aside from Drama from time to time. Simply just not worth the effort in my opinion, but since you've pointed it out I'll go take a peek

Link for those who are unfamiliar: LINK

Is it worth it? I know it's $20 but I'd rather not end up spending another $20 on a waste of money (for example, cube world, having not been updated in like 7 months, and still in alpha...)

Watch TotalBiscuit's review. Made me not buy it.
Yup, not buying. Good review to watch in terms of gameplay
