It has an option to switch between 4k and 1080p, the 4k is more for videos and images.

4k has literally no use at a 15.3" display unless you're sitting ten inches from the screen. A PPI of 300 (or 4k at 15.3") is pretty much the maximum that eyes can distinguish for that distance. 100 PPI is the maximum for about two feet, the normal distance from a desktop monitor. Hell, even retina displays on macbooks have a PPI of like 200.

4k? aren't the y50s laptops?
there isn't a mobile gpu in existence that can game well at 4k. even desktops, there are only about 4 cards that can pull it off without sli or whatever.

and the four cards that can run it without sli/crossfire/multiple GPUs can only run modern games at 30-40 fps. the Y50s all have 1080p, too, not 4k. so unless he bought a laptop to game on a 4k monitor...

installers that install extra stuff (unless it's required for the program to run)/change your default search engine/change your default browser should be illegal.

no, they shouldn't.

Accidentally posted this before replying fully, give me a second.

EDIT: Optional programs that you have to deselect from installing, though apparently completely useless, give tons of money to developers that would have made almost no money off of a free installer. It also keeps sites like CNet and Sourceforge online, due to the growing number of users using adblock, removing their main source of income previously, ads. They're a necessary evil to keep free programs free.

I wouldn't say it's merely "acceptable quality", I'd say ts great quality for the price and worth it over buying a $110 just for the looks

buying cases over $100 is worth it over a $60 case because of reasons like the quality of the build, the size of the case, the dependability of the case, and the airflow of the case. not to mention looks, as your Antec 300 is not the best looking case on the market, by far. Compare this, a $60 case:

 to a Fractal R4, a $100 case:

The difference is appearance is stunning. The Fractal R4 is also much, much quieter than an Antec 300.

An Antec 300 is an awesome budget case, I own one and I have no problems with it

although there are several acceptable quality $60 cases

Yep. Bing has a habit of taking over peoples web browsers. Same happened to me! My web browsers got taken over by bing because I tried to install a music pack for blockland. This can happen in many ways!     1. Downloading something,  2. Just happens,  3. And many other ways! Did bing take over your web browser? Tell me in the comments below. Bye!

you have adware. install https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner.

Don't spend $110 on a case
There's plenty of good ones around $60

although there are several acceptable quality $60 cases, most are not of any sort of quality, usability, or looks. there are tons of reason to spend $100+ on a case.

I'm in western NC south of Asheville. Weather out here is perfectly normal.
It's been very nice here lately, too. Seems like most storms never hit central/west NC, just beat the hell out of the OBX.

i get 30 fps on a gt610 with "low" shaders, it was a loving $45 card

$45 card as in it should be working better or as in it is working well? A $45 card can't be expected to run everything perfectly.

yes, its going to be in the single-digit range of percents in games which are way more gpu dependant. in games which are more cpu-dependant, skyrim for example, I saw increases of around 10 to 20 fps. anyways, its the newest line of cpu's, he will be able to upgrade to the new 14nm line of cpus in a few years. and there is absolutely no reason to get last-gen, unless he is on a very strict budget.

Skyrim:
Intel Core i5-4670K Stock   108.4   106.27 %
Intel Core i5-3570K Stock   114.6   112.35 %
Intel Core i5-2500K Stock   102.0   100.00 %
???

I used to get around 90 read/write on my wd green and on my new wd black I get 170 read/write, loading times are faster, and the operating system is snappier.
WD Green =/= WD Blue

The 4670k is better than the 3570k, there's no doubt about that. The question is whether or not it's worth the price premium you pay. It's probably a bit more worth it than it was at launch because the cost of z87 motherboards have come down a bit.

If only there was a reputable source or some sort of benchmark to show that the 4670k is a lot better than the 3570k at gaming.

210
4670k > 3570k. they are not the same, what the forget are you talking about

It's 3%!! bigger numbers are better, right?

what do you mean by that hard drive is "overkill"? with your reasoning an ssd is even more of one.

WD Blues are just fine for anything short of server backups and VERY delicate data. An SSD has much more practical uses, especially with consumers; MUCH faster data transfer speed, they have a smaller size, they're quieter than hard drives, and programs stored on them will be much faster, just to name a few.
