Off Topic / Gameplay Rape
« on: January 21, 2013, 04:07:18 AM »
I sold my old computer the other day and am now waiting for my CPU to arrive in the mail. In the meantime, I've gotten "comfortable" with my old faithful white 2007 Intel MacBook.

I used to play Blockland on this during mid 2008 to Jan 2011, it coped alright but was pretty bad with brick counts over 15k during the later years.

Blockland has changed a lot since and I put Snow Leopard on the old laptop for fun. Now it runs BL like stuff.

I think using this old laptop will make me appreciate my new gaming computer build even more. It'll be far more powerful than any computer I've owned to date.

I'm used to using low-mid end PC laptops, and the odd Mac, so I've often had to "make-do" with low quality gaming. Finally I've had the financial ability to purchase my own gear, though I've certainly appreciated and enjoyed the few computers I was gifted throughout childhood and the teenage years up to this point.

I thought it might be nice to remind yourself of how decent your current computers are, perhaps remind yourself of gaming horror stories on stuffty hardware, or if you are using a cheap computer, ponder what you might end up with in the not-so-distant-future.

I don't know what experience you have in the industry but I can tell you nobody is running Windows 98 anymore, most businesses now are partway through migrations from XP to 7. It depends on the organization, smaller ones probably switch faster.

Possibly a coincidence, the places I've worked at or passed through were reasonably large. Some of upper management and also the reception had 7 installed. Not yet seen anyone using XP or Vista. My insight is pretty small and subjective at the moment, but thats what I've noticed.

Maybe. I mean, its kind of funny due to random appeal. Most viewers seemed to like it.

Strange. I never find any of the videos people post in off-topic amusing. I wonder what it is about this one thats not appealing to some of you.

At my work we use far more VGA cables than DVI, HDMI, and display port combined.

Well obviously phasing out old standards isn't an overnight job.

Most businesses still cling onto Windows 98.

well, where did you find him

that's the most interesting bit

He said he fond it in his bed.

Either its made up, or he hasn't had his bed sheets changed for 3 years and his mattress likes to eat things.

almost everyone uses vga, and it's probably going to stay that way for years to come.

I disagree, VGA is being phased out in just about all modern televisions and computer monitors especially as lots of home theaters and computers are supporting DVI and HDMI digital signals over VGA (some supplying connectors to take DVI brown townogue signals and convert them to VGA instead). If they do support it, I've heard they usually use poverty boards to read the VGA signal because people just aren't using it as often.

DVI is more likely to take over in the next few years. HDMI is changing so often and I find it to be less common with computer users especially. We'll see.

Only time I ever had to do 'shower in a can' is during summer breaks and when the shower was broken for a day or so. I mean come on, you have to take a shower at least once every other day.

Most of these teenage offenders tend to use a shower in a can as a way to avoid showing for a week or more, and to recycle clothes that really need to be washed.

I remember in middle school when people referred to Axe as 'liquid shower', and it disgusted me.

Thats right, I've heard it called the 'shower in a can'.

Digustin'.

Perfume, cologne, or even deodorant applied in excess is really, chokingly unpleasant.

Use it in moderation like its meant to be used, and avoid people who don't.
