So is this like real events or something?
unfortunately

i would love for this to be a full add-on, but i have no idea how to format xml trees for dialogue, let alone get the game to read it

threw out the hybrid idea and finished the classic mode

i made a basic script to utilize \c# instead of hexcoloring

i also forgot to add a brick sound during bind input, as well as remove my ghost brick

brick away and brick towards select options and brick plant chooses it, i didn't null the animations this time

check it out here or in the OP

i cant even get wav sounds to work in blockland
i actually used music bricks and centered it around the player models

the ogg files have 30 seconds of silence just in case the loops don't repeat if the server hangs up, it only adds 5 kb

it takes two events for starting/ending, but it's way more optimized and doesn't need making a separate add-on

the "red shirt" line for instance

ogg:
 30s silence: 54 kb
 no silence: 49 kb

wav:
 no silence: 569 kb

could you try to make a fallout 1 styled dialogue system
the most i could do is a hybrid since the event boxes only allow 200 characters including formatting and scripting directly allows for 255

that being said, i'm actually working on this:

SELECTION                  DESCRIPTION
[X] 1. REQUEST JOIN  > 1.  I want to join The Circle.   (replace X with *, thanks bbcode)
[  ] 2. ASK INFO          > 2. I need to ask you a few things.
[  ] 3. HOSTILE           > 3. I'm taking you off to jail.

the current "selection" print format allows 3 lines at once with changeable colors for each option, but only allows 20 characters each

scrolling up/down changes the selection [X], and can even change the print from options 1-3 to 4-6 and so on

scrolling left/right changes the print format from "selection" to "description" mode, which is the more traditional print with allowance for 170 characters, but with only one option per print

the only significant problems for eventing this are

  • trouble editing dialogue without rewriting through text editors
  • necessary namedbrick for binding more than one action (fixed with a written-in selection string for bindaction)
  • necessary namedbrick for complex dialogue (+100 events)
  • dependent on vce (obligated)

this is entirely possible through scripting and just one brick per bot, but it's way more advanced than anything i can do with torque

AMATEUR DEV VN MODE

CLASSIC MODE
HATE NEWSPAPERS MODE

not fake i swear

uses custom events:
  •    bindaction for dialogue choices
  •    setspeed so you can't move while talking (can't restrict jumping without changing playertype)
  •    doplayerteleport so you'll always be in the camera's view
  •    playanimation for player talking animation + reset to null so the shift brick animations won't play out
  •    virgin conditional events (vce)
  •    other stuff like event_onrelay

times out automatically if no option has been made after 30 seconds

will be fully implemented in SURVIVE THE DISASTERS RISING: REVENGEANCE, stay tuned

i planned on 5 different events and worked on them to completion, but due the lag, we had to skip out on two of them, improvise through 2 broken ones, with only 1 event being truly successful (wwe ring)

i'm going to try my best to port them over to another project, but we can also do a boss showcase thing sometime this week with a ~32 player limit if you guys want to see them

also props to ikethegeneric's jared fogle and trogtor's madman, we loved your work

I've been reading more context of my searches, the only person that I can find using the same tone while using the phrase is Akio. This thread was originally going to be about only him, but I felt that some other people were the cause of hostility related in the second paragraph of the OP, which were unnecessary to include. By the time I wrote the third one, it was towards everyone who were causing what I thought were existing problems.

Sorry for the confusion.

Do you have a legitimate mental disorder?

That controversy is over.

The first paragraph is only towards Akio; Ignore "Type 'mental disorder' in the search bar and you'll find plenty of people that do this, not just him" in the OP, I let myself write that with only a quick glance at the search results.

Everything else still stands.

Badspot didn't invent the idea of using mental illnesses as an insult. That's been around for, uh, centuries presumably.

He's been using the term abundantly this week since Badspot used it a few times from May until now. I don't think it's a coincidence.

i feel like that's not the case at all - people are just calling others mental cus, well, they think they're being mental.

There are reasonable times to call people mental.
There are times where it's not so reasonable.

i mean he's called people mentally inept outside of drama plenty of times too

Most of the time it's already worthy of being moved to drama, but just stays in the board and dies.

really?

if you have a problem with people saying it, just say it, don't construct some weird complex that people are affected by. sometimes, things are a bit more cut-and-dry

It can be taken into more technical thinking, but I honestly think it's just another insult, basically stretching out something like 'you're handicapped' without clear intentions of flame, which is fine to post in this board, a bit more questionable in other boards however.

To be honest, it seems weird how brash insults aren't on par with more wordy insults in terms of what's bannable, especially if they bear the same message with less intensity, but the decision isn't mine on which posts are considered flame or not.

if badspot is doing nothing wrong in saying the phrase, why is it bad when someone else says it?

i mean, the guy also says "blockland" a lot, and so do i. i'm not really mimicking badspot though, im just saying it - which arguably is what akio is doing. so i'd argue you don't like people calling other people handicaps, but don't mind when badspot does it, and that seem a bit morally questionable.

People can say things like that in Drama as long as it isn't considered flame, it's just a personal peeve that people use those phrases, knowing that it's commonly used by higher authority, to create some sort of authority surge for themselves and pretend that they have a higher word.

Badspot's recent posts use those phrases only in Drama, where those terms meant to be; I would be a little less aggravated if it wasn't in the first page of an unsolved Suggestions thread.

i don't really get how people insulting others with mental disorder has much to do with badspot. they're still sort of starfishs for it, yeah, but it's not like badspot was the only one doing it originally

It's a problem from authority, not originality.

you don't actually have the cajones to call out badspot tho, only people who mimic him, huh.

Badspot is doing nothing wrong. I'm not offended by the phrase, only the people who imitate it and use it as a defense are in the wrong.

Akio's latest posts involving 'mental illness':

do you have a legitimate mental disorder or are you just extremely thick

Do you have a legitimate mental disorder?

     Stop it.

I'm noticing that certain users are getting some sort of "Authority Surge" because they're using stand-out phrases that Badspot commonly uses, and I want it to stop. You can say whatever phrase that he says, so long if it contributes, but stop having the mindset that you're a second-in-command moderator because you can use them. These ego trips are getting out of hand, stop trying to pretend you're somebody else and use your own personality.

Stop replying to obvious bait all the time, especially in places where that type of discussion isn't wanted. We don't need 30 pages of violent nonsense inside a suggestions thread because it doesn't belong there. If you can't find a place where you are specifically warranted to whine about posts you find unintelligible, then why not just make it at all instead of putting it inside a thread that doesn't want any of it? If you see posts like what Vax posted, dismiss it; It's not wanted here, but neither is your opinion about it. Hodot's 'two cents' were just as nonexistent as your's were. Either you can post something that contributes to the thread, or don't post at all. Things like "I'm also wondering where this is" is acceptable because you're showing further impatience for the unavailability; "You have a legitimate mental disorder" is not.

Above all, just because Akio was the reason to write this doesn't mean that he's the only one doing it, or else I would have just messaged him about it. Type 'mental disorder' in the search bar and you'll find plenty of people that do this, not just him. I want all of you to find your own personality, don't copy anyone else's because it is not your's; You are all separate people, act like it. You can like and dislike as many things you want, you can build your own set of things that other people have made because it is an overall build that represents you.

Everyone:

Stop replying to posts trying to start unwanted, off-topic arguments.

Don't get such an ego trip over mimicking a higher authority.

And please contribute to suggestions and help requests instead of spreading toxicitiy.

It's nice to return the favor, you know.
