Off Topic / Newegg is broken omfg :(
« on: August 02, 2010, 11:14:41 PM »
Around yesterday I get a confirmation email from Newegg saying that my order has shipped along with the tracking number and another invoice email. So for the past ~24 hours it has told me that the package has shipped. What was even more odd was that the tracking list for that tracking number had an update "from the future", August 2nd at 23:42:20 which was only about 45 minutes ago and was there since yesterday.

Now I check again since it finally passed that 23:42:40 mark on August 2nd.

Somehow the shipping went backwards to "processing" even though today was a normal working business day.

The tracking list is still the same.

Wtf just happened.

UPDATE: It's now for sure shipped... but...

FOCUS HOME INTERACTIVE ANNOUNCES CITIES XL 2011

With this press release, we'd like to inform you that Focus Home Interactive acquired Cities XL and the current developments of the game.

This fall, Focus will launch Cities XL 2011, an enriched version which will meet all the expectations of City Builder's fans.

"It's important not to leave Cities XL without a future, declares Cedric Lagarrigue, CEO of Focus Home Interactive. Though the game may not have reached the ambitious objectives set forth by Monte Cristo, it has been successful in Europe and via online platforms. There's a community that's developed around the game, hopes and expectations that we cannot leave without a future. We are convinced that the game must make its mark and become a reference as promised during the pre-release announcements of the original 2009 game. We will therefore release Cities XL 2011 in October and will do so with the intent to please those who bought the earlier version. Moreover, we are working on a special offer for the game's release which we will soon reveal. As for the other City Builder and management game fans, Cities XL 2011's content, options, and features should give them great satisfaction."

For those of you who don't know what Cities XL is/was, it was a city building game similar to the Sim City games except expanding more upon which Sim City is already based upon, such as retail shopping and adding in the ability to make much neater looking transportation systems (i.e. curved bridges /drool).

The game was running barely smoothly as there were confirmed reports of a rather large memory leak within the game that almost renders the game unplayable on large cities or for large periods of time, even on most high end systems. Despite this and even multiple memory leaks as there were found out, Monte Cristo eventually realized they're draining their wallet and pulled the plug on their online service for Cities XL, Planet Offer, which allowed players to create a city on separate planets that only interacted with the cities on the same planet and visit other cities by other players.

Cities XL was a large disappointment. The memory leaks and lack of support from Monte Cristo sealed the games fate until this press release.

tl;dr; stuffty game, then bought out by another developer and promises to make it better.

P.S.

In other words; "Free/heavily discounted copy of Cities XL 2011 to anyone who owns Cities XL on Steam" deal is in the talks.

Because obviously being a loving handicap just isn't enough.

Guys, my blockland play time will be severely cut down.. Hosting a party, EVERYONE'S INVITED!!!

(This is a joke, don't ban me please)
A really gay joke topic.

A bunch of stuff involving Lego Universe.
Made an entire thread for LU in Off Topic and despite numerous attempts at telling him that there's already another thread he insisted on keeping his own thread for attention.
link.

Then he started trying to convince people that "LEGO Universe will take over".
BBBUT, Lego universe is 8+

That's what the developers.

So we better make blockland child safe or LEGO Universe will take over..

(And im kind of on their side)
Uh, no.

I highly doubt you have the professional experience to actually foresee whether or not Lego Universe will actually "take over" Blockland seeing as Lego Universe will cost a monthly fee and is loaded with child safety bullstuff.

Blockland is technically already "child safe" if you don't allow the game to access the internet and disable chat. There is no way you can enforce internet safety without having a negative impact on anyone 12+ or older.
at least there is free chat on lego universe.
Only if you actually confirm that you're 13+.

Blockland already has free chat unless the server enforces a strict curse filter and e-tard filter.
Lego universe is more interactive and you can do more stuff than in blockland.
There is a friend list
It has more features.

It won't have gaycigarettes on it like you.

No need to be butthurt because I'm right.

RTB4 will feature a Friends list.
Lego Universe will concentrate on mainly PvE stuff and building with bricks that you find along the way.

I don't know why you're all of the sudden jerking off like mad to a MMO.
Gets pretty butthurt easily as far as I can tell.

He not only jacks off to Lego Universe to no avail, he also jacks off to women pretty loudly... also to no avail.
Augh Augh Augh There It Is Augh Augh Uuh Uuh Aough Aaaughh Ahh.
Which sounds pretty loving gay.

same, going into 7th like a badass. I got expelled 2 years in a row and shiet. my school has 5-8th grade.
Bullstuff.

steam shut down, wont be up for about a week.
Just seeing stupid people makes me want to punch something really badly. Doctor says it might be a disorder or just something that anyone can have.

In summary I can already tell what kind of person Sk8rGameFreak is in real life; He's probably one of those smaller stupid kids that obsesses literally over loving anything that has large amounts of fans already (probably with kids the same age) which probably indicates that he's a pretty huge pushover too.

tl;dr a loving dumbstuff who needs to make with the STFU and get the forget out.

Ok, first I chose a certain EVGA GTX460 because of the large fan, art design and the great reviews at the great price. It ALSO came with a FREE Just Cause 2 Coupon courtesy of EVGA for downloading through Steam. I was excited.

Then it disappeared. I couldn't understand why. They SAID the offer lasts through August 31, so what the forget.

Today I double checked my cart again and I find THIS.

Why the hell are they sending me a demo game where I can just buy it normally or get the trial off of Blizzards site? I don't want this piece of stuff in my cart, how can I get rid of it?

Off Topic / Question about electrical stuff
« on: July 27, 2010, 01:38:28 AM »
I live in Maryland which during the summer has pretty nasty thunderstorms.

I was wondering if my desktop computer is safe from a power outage and won't have its stuff fried inside.

I use this power strip thing that I think may have a surge protector and its plugged in to a three-prong outlet which I heard is a ground in case of an electrical surge. Is that safe from surges/outages?

If it helps my computer has survived, same power supply being used and all, with the only side effect of the game I was running crashing when it tried to play a voice file that was playing when the outage hit, and totally working fine after.

Games / Lets Play: MW2 for PC
« on: July 24, 2010, 02:15:30 AM »
So I was wondering how many people actually own MW2 for PC and if we had a good amount we could do a private match over Steam.

Simply vote/reply "yes" or "no" whether or not you would like to play and CAN play online with us.

Just a simple reminder, this is legit Steam authorized copies of MW2.
We are NOT using the map pack DLCs because they are a waste of money for most.

I'll ask for Steam names once we have a good count of whether or not there are enough people.

Pre-Thread Notice:
This thread discusses the very itty bitty insides of computers. Feel free to use this thread for advice as well and feel free to ask about additional information, but please, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't talk at all because chances are you'll just cause a clusterforget for yourself.

You may see some shortened looking terms like CPU, HDD and PSU. Hover your mouse over them in the list to see what they mean/do (but don't PMS a blood-flowing Niagra Falls if I'm not defining it right)

Note: The below text is unnecessary junk now. Please disregard this, it sucks roosters.

So in light of graduating school I was given the option to either put a list together for a $1000 custom-built desktop or a $1000 laptop for gaming/school. We looked for good gaming laptops and I've been told from friends and people IRL who own gaming laptops that it's not exactly a good investment for the long run (4-6 years).

In the end I chose to keep my Dell Latitude D610 for school and incredibly light 2D gaming and decided on upgrading my desktop.

Now there were four things I was positively sure about upgrading.
-Motherboard, because LGA775 is becoming outdated since the Core 2 family.
-CPU, because its an LGA775 Core 2 Duo.
-RAM, because they are different speeds and DDR2.
-Hard Drive, because I'm frequently running out of space and having to uninstall games to install more.

Unnecessary stuff stops here, below is the list I've chosen out and will order next week.

I put together a list of VERY, very high end parts in my opinion. Please feel free to point out any flaws in the list and correct me if you feel it is of utmost importance.
