Games / Lets play: Dawn of War (The Ultimate Battle!)
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:14:58 PM »
Sup. Dawn of War. Real Time Strategy.

But wait? What is this Dawning of Fight?

Dawn of War is a series of Real-Time Strategy games developed by Relic Entertainment. It is based on the Warhammer 40,000 series and includes several races fighting for control of planets or galaxies within the universe. Many races include human kind as either the numerous Imperial Guard, the gun-ho Space Marines, or the corrupted sadistic forces of Chaos which are Space Marines tainted by evil warp influences. There are also such "fantasy" races like Orks, green pig-like brutes, Eldar, BIONICLE-looking magical elf people, and Necrons, dark and silent machines who detest the living.

So how can I get this Dusk of Wam?

...You can buy it on Steam or in stores.
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=THQ&advanced=0&term=Dawn+of+war&category1=998
This is a complete list of all the Dawn of War games on Steam.

The first Dawn of War series includes some stand-alone packs which may cause confusion for some people.
You can own only one of the stand-alone packs and still play the game normally online. But you will only be able to play the races exclusive to that game. For instance, Dawn of War Dark Crusade (abbv. as DC) includes two new races. The Tau and the Necrons. If you own only DC, you will be only able to play as those two races online. But, if you own DC and lets say Dawn of War 1 the original, you'll be able to play as all the races in the original Dawn of War 1 and the two in DC.

UPDATE: Read this post for clarification on "race/game" issues.

Suggestion: Soulstorm isn't a great game. It has the Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle. Dark Eldar are these forgeted up weird lame versions of the Eldar that make you think it's like Chaos but for Eldar, but it's just a lame version of them. Sisters of Battle are not hot space marine women, contrary to your belief. They're just really angelic and they're like nuns with guns essentially. Get it if you want though.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW MORE?

You better have said yes to the above statement!

So lets get this straight.

We're going to play a game on Saturday. We're going to be playing Dawn of War 1. If any of you people who actually own Dawn of War 2 want to play a match for that, we might organize something for that later on. Maybe. MAYBE.

The match will probably be either a teamed match or a free for all, depending on what the people vote. The map will be something according to how many people we have.

If we don't get enough people playing this weekend, then we'll post pone it. Please note I may or may not be able to attend this so someone other than me will have to host this. We may be doing Hamachi VPN LAN so that it will be easier for some people due to connection difficulties I've encountered earlier with some people.

I'll probably announce a specific time later on but we're shooting for Saturday night definitely.

Discuss Dawn of War and Dawn of War 2 here as well if desired.

April fools passed blah blah [slowpoke.jpg]

So lets discuss hilarious stuff that happened on April Fools. Pranks you did on someone, pranks that happened to you, pranks that happened to someone else, whatever. Just name some funny ones and discuss them generally.

This year the girls put opened tampons and pads in the guys lockers. Thank God my locker was locked. Lesson 101 at my school: Lock your locker on April Fools Day.
The year before that we took some kids books and he just walked into all his classes with nothing.
The year before THAT we put chocolate milk into a teachers coffee and he spewed it out all over his laptop.

Suggestions & Requests / Drop Pod Projectile

I'd appreciate greatly if someone made a Drop Pod Projectile. Just like the Rocket Projectile, but affected by gravity by a very little bit and a large drop-pod shaped model.

Hey guys.

I'm in Florida. Orlando. At the Renaissance Hotel, and I'm on my Zune HD because wifi in rooms actually costs money. Wtf, seriously. So I'm using the lobbys free wifi while eating sushi.

I probably won't get on MSN or Skype because it costs $15 for a day of internet, just so you know in case rumor starts that I was Shamus next victim or some stuff.

I might buy the internet for a day just to tell you the awesome stuff that happened because I hate typing on stuff so small. I went to Universal Studios today and it waas loving awesome.

Will edit this post with updates and stuff if you care.

Games / Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II Chaos Rising
« on: March 13, 2010, 03:14:23 PM »

YOUR SLAVERY TO THE FALSE EMPEROR ENDS TODAY.

Chaos Rising is the first expansion pack to the Dawn of War II series that brings forth a fifth race into the game; the dark nihilistic forces of Chaos.

Story/Campaign:
For thousands of years the planet Aurelia has been caught in the Warp storm, untold horrors spawned upon its surface and made barren with ice. It should be a wasteland.

It isn't.

You and your squad of Space Marines will traverse across planets getting rid of the Chaos forces and others who stand in your way, while also being given various choices throughout missions and upgrades to your squad that will either drive your squads towards the corrupting influence of Chaos, or away from it and keeping true to your Space Marine beliefs.

tl;dr:
A stand-alone expansion pack for Dawn of War 2 that adds a new race for about $30 and a new campaign with cool stuff.

Note: Just like in the later stand-alone expansions for Dawn of War 1, you only require Dawn of War 1 to be able to play the original campaign in the Chaos Rising game itself and to play Tyranids, Eldar, Orks and Space Marines in Multiplayer/Last Stand.

The whole review of the cheap stuff I got for free.

I really laugh at the fact that this is worth $10. This isn't even worth $2 considering the batteries aren't even usable in regular electronics.

Lego Island 1 topic too old.
Discuss the coolness that was, here.

Trying to run Lego Island 1 on my laptop and desktop. Desktop just crashes on launch, laptop launches but everything but moving things and non-static objects (i.e. Infomaniac and icons that are hovered over) are all a light blue color.

Can anyone help?

Nobody wants to join your stupid voxli chat room. It's stupid and it's spamming up off topic.
We have messaging programs like Skype specifically for this reason.

General Discussion / sort-of-solved-forum-problem
« on: February 21, 2010, 03:41:40 AM »
So I tried to post in a topic in the Off Topic section. I get an error saying "You may not post new topics in this board." I got confused because I was posting a reply, not a new topic. I tried going into regular reply as I use quick reply all the time. When I hit post, it tells me my session has timed out, I "left my subject/message blank" which disappeared, and left me puzzled.
I tried to log out/log back in but for some reason I can't even log back in anymore. Yes, I used Gen. Nick since that is my registered name and yes I put in the password correctly.
It tells me You should put in a username.
I obviously did, otherwise I wouldn't loving hit the "log in" button :|
Thank God for Firefox.
I'm honestly thinking chrome is just unstable but performs fast.
Anyone else getting problems like these or does chrome just hate me after giving me a BSoD and various flash problems?

EDIT: Nevermind. It randomly lets me log in again. wtf?

Drama / Can we stop posting links to "let me google that for you"?
« on: February 15, 2010, 04:21:08 PM »
Really. It's a joke that wasn't funny in the first place and now it's just an annoying thing. Just post the god damn Google results or don't post any search results at all, because people aren't getting the message of "google it yourself" when you post a link to a stuffty javascript site that googles whatever research they're looking for.

tl;dr: stop posting "let me google that for you" you unfunny jews.

Games / Empire: Total War demo
« on: February 09, 2010, 01:43:44 AM »
My first thoughts on the game were shattered by an inability to play due to the game crashing at the loading screen and never reaching the main menu. I decided to take on the game again when Steam announced that all of the Total War series is on a 66% off sale as well as all DLCs belonging to the games.

So I went ahead and reinstalled the demo. Easy peasy, works like a charm. I was disappointed to find out I can't play on highest settings but even on medium it looks very nice. For the record, I'm on a Core 2 Duo E7300 3.0 GHz, 4 GB RAM and a 9800GT.

The controls are very fluid and simple for even someone like me, who can't figure out budget in Simcity that well, to figure it out. It's like a regular RTS almost but full scale battles in colonial times.

It's pretty fun and they have a multitude of units to show your way of play.

Pros:
  • Fun
  • Looks great even on medium
  • Simple controls that let you control functions a regular 1700s army would do
  • Naval combat is pretty realistic
Cons:
  • Loading times are a drag
  • The quotes during loading are pretty much the usual "THE SWORD BESTS THE GUN IN COMBAT" philosophic things.
Overall:
It's pretty damn fun for an RTS fan like me, I've never really played Medieval Total War because I'm not a fan for knights and stuff and Rome isn't my thing either.
I almost mistook the price of $20 for being Empire Total War and it's expansions, but that's just all of the Total War games. All for around $33. That's the price of Empire: Total War plus it's expansions. I honestly don't care about Indians so I'm not buying the Warpath thing.

If I wasn't tight on budget I'd buy it.
