Games / Miner Wars - Singleplayer Story & MMO
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:10:16 PM »
MINER WARS

About Miner Wars

Overview

Miner Wars is a 6DOF underground and space shooter played in a fully destructible environment and is a combination of single player story game and MMO.

As a player, you operate an advanced mining ship in an open world asteroid belt area. You dig kilometers of tunnels, harvest the ore, travel the solar system, fight your enemies and discover mysterious alien secrets.

Game play is led by an epic story and is a combination of a single/multi-player game, cooperative, or you against everyone.

The story will introduce you to many types of missions: rescue, exploration, revenge, base defense, theft, transportation, stealth, search and destroy, pure harvesting, racing or just flying around and destroying everything you see.

High quality rendering and special effects, realistic physics, unique 'destructible engine', and game area with no borders make this game a real life experience.

World premiere: Autumn 2009

Platform: Windows, Xbox 360 Live Arcade. Active internet connection needed!

Destructible Environment

Miner Wars is played in space filled with asteroids. Some of them are large--almost 10 kilometers. You can dig in any direction through any of these asteroids, and do so without any constraints.

Physical engine calculates all changes in real-time in regard to material resistance. Yes, some materials can be non-destructible by standard explosives.

Environment changes are persistent - you can blast a new tunnel, travel to a distant sector of the solar system and even come back after one month and your ‘work’ will be still there. Or maybe not, as other players might have 'finished' your tunnel.

There are places where no man has been. These virgin areas are ready to be explored and harvested. Of course there are also high demand areas where you have to fight for every piece of ore.

Off Topic / What the HELL Comcast, I'm tired of this stuff.
« on: August 21, 2009, 11:59:00 PM »
So when we moved into or new house some time ago, we switched to the comcast pack with phone, TV, And internet.
The whole thing is stuff. This has been going on for some time now, like a while ago we had to threaten the comcast people that we'll cancel our subscription with them to get them to come down here and fix the stuff.
Well, They didn't do much because its still loving sucking.
For about the past week or so the internet has been stopping all of the sudden, And now its being loving slow as hell and takes forever to load a 2 minute youtube video. Now keep in mind we're supposed to be getting stuff like 10 MB/s but its not even close to that.
See look at this speed test:

It doesn't even feel like HALF that.
Now, on the TV.
The TV hasn't been as bad for the time we've had comcast, But all of the sudden its been really bad.
It skips, freezes, and at times it blacks out and says stuff like "Poor signal" or "No Signal"
We WOULD switch but we seriously don't have enough money lately.
Actually, We don't have any god damn money at all.
Also, The phone is OK, we don't use it much anymore.
What the hell am I supposed to do about it? Its really starting to piss me off.

tl;dr: Read it. Now.

Games / VOXELSTIEN 3D
« on: August 17, 2009, 06:53:57 PM »
I thought this game needs its own thread, so here it is.

Voxelstien 3D is a wolfenstien 3D remake, With VOXELS instead of pixels. That means fully destructible environment. You can cut a hole in a wall, Then shoot the guard on the other side.
Quote from: Voxelstien 3D webiste
Voxelstein 3D is an FPS game inspired by Wolfenstein 3D. The game uses Ken Silverman's VOXLAP engine to render voxels in software. The levels in the game are fully destructible - and by fully we mean fully.
The game world is built from tiny cubes called voxels. There are over 37 million in the first level. Rendering a world like this is slow (especially without hardware acceleration), but there is an advantage: voxels can be added, removed or otherwise altered very very quickly. This enables all kinds of cool stuff, including fully destructible worlds!
Features
-Weapons: knife, pistol, chaingun, grenades, C4
-Enemies: guard, officer
-Many treasures to collect
-Fully destructible world: blow holes in walls, ceilings, enemies, anywhere!
-Loads original sounds and music from Wolfenstein 3D

You can edit the game really easily. When you download it, It comes with a little .ini file. You can then edit that for the gun to have tons of ammo, shoot really fast, or make it so the knife cuts really fast. If you know C++ the game is completely open source.

Downloads
You can download the source files, and the game itself HERE

Here are some screen shots:

If you've ever played wolfenstein 3D, and know the cheat code... That cheat code works on this too :D

Off Topic / Need some help with batch scripting
« on: August 14, 2009, 07:35:48 PM »
So I need to be able to write what the user enters onto a file, then later find what that user entered onto the file and assign it onto a variable that I can use.
If this isn't possible, Are there any basic scripting languages that I can start to learn?
Because lately I've been figuring out that batch scripting is really limited :o
