Environment Files / Sky High Water
« on: September 06, 2016, 12:48:47 AM »
This pack of water textures were inspired by the v20 maps Sky High and Blocko Airlines. These two maps were made by 1 and [GSF]Ghost.
Author: piber20
All of these textures are from https://www.filterforge.com/filters/.

There are 3 different textures included. In addition to the exact same texture used in the maps mentioned above, there is a new farm texture and a much denser city texture.

This script made by Adam487 is ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED!
Without it, you wouldn't be able to move the water below the ground, thus making it impossible to create the illusion of being sky high!
You should also make the ground invisible so players can see the water.

Add-Ons / Re: Crouch Jumping Script
« on: September 06, 2016, 12:25:48 AM »
Thanks, but just a slight warning - the code in its current state wasn't built for crouch jumps past 7, so you might get stuck or crouch straight through ceilings.

Environment Files / v20 Uncut Textures/Environments
« on: September 06, 2016, 12:05:45 AM »
This is a repost from my website. Barely anyone even knows about my website and it felt weird that I wasn't mentioning my Blockland add-ons in the official place to release your Blockland add-ons, so here you go.

There were a lot of textures and assets that never made it from v20 to v21. I have managed to port and even remaster some of these assets (v21 has some higher resolution versions of v20 textures) to the modern game as environment files.

Author: piber20
As nearly everything here is taken directly from an older blockland version, these assets are likely free resources Badspot found for his game (there's a lot of that) or created/edited by him himself.

Skies

Ingame:

The dark blue sky is based off of the Bedroom Dark and Kitchen Dark maps, and is great for when you need a night setting for your builds. The black one is based off of Destruct, complete darkness, which is the polar opposide of the default white sky which imitated Construct. Both of these are dark skies, which helps as there are no dark night skies by default.

Grounds

Ingame:

A whopping 28 new ground options for you to play with.

Some very notable things are the addition of a NONE option which allows you to replicate slate and skylands from v20, which had an invisible floor.
There's also some sand textures, which should be useful as sand was not an option by default.
As a bonus I have made my own version of the grass texture which best replicates how grass actually looked while ingame in v20.

Notes
- The skies have the same exact textures as some default skies, but are recolored by their "code" files. This is to replicate v20 skies in the best possible way, and to be compatable if someone were to change the environment settings in-game.
- The NONE option may be a little glitched at times. The fog in skyboxes seem to not like it too much.
- Each add-on included is specially named to be sorted right after or before default textures. That's why you will see 2 random letters after the add-on prefix. If this is considered a bad idea or is simply disliked, I'll change the names.

It forces it back to 7 when it detects that it is higher than that.

Add-Ons / Crouch Jumping Server Script v8
« on: September 05, 2016, 11:24:53 PM »
This script implements a crouch-jump feature reminiscent of Half-Life and similar games.
If you're in the air and you crouch, you get sent up a bit allowing you to reach higher areas.

Author: piber20
A few lines of code were based on a sniplet provided by Carbon Zypher.
Version 8

Here is a .gif showing the crouch jump in action when set to the maximum setting (the default):

The 5 block high red wall can be scaled by default, just by jumping over it. To scale the 8 block high blue wall, you must crouch in the air. The 10 block high yellow wall represents the limit of your jump height by default, and cannot be scaled or looked over, the crouch jump does nothing to change this fact.

Crouch jump height can be changed by editing the pref $Pref::Server::CrouchJump::HeightInPlates (default is 7). For the best FPS-like/half-life-like experience I recommend you try out the Half-Life-Like playertype below that replicates movement of Half-Life including utilising features from this script. You must have this script activated to make the playertype work, otherwise it's just a slower quake-like player.

You can bypass the maximum/minimum by changing the pref $Pref::Server::CrouchJump::BypassHeightMax to True

You can change how fast the air detection ticks are by changing the $Pref::Server::CrouchJump::TickLength pref. By default it is 20. Set it higher to improve server performance at the cost of it being less accurate.

General Discussion / Re: Anyone remember Blockland Turmoil?
« on: September 05, 2016, 03:36:20 PM »
if i remember correctly (this was quite a while ago) i simply ran out of ideas and was taking too long to build. episode two i think would have started you in a spammy red brick land which led to some roblox build and then that led you to some bootleg portal hell which would lead you to a desert area and then the inside of a volcano, where i would make up more of the build as i went. i recall my favorite part being the desert area because it looked nice and had a little pipe puzzle with keys. sadly, that save was lost and i dont remember how. also i just checked the link in the topic and it looks like it was deleted. i dont have the file anymore so it looks like you're going to have to ask around for it if people still have it. :/ also could do an edit to its gamemode.txt to remove the music because that's probably lost.

quite honestly, it was getting disorganised and i was not enjoying building it. i remember starting multiple remakes and losing interest, doing many revival projects and losing interest, and i think i even make some forum adventure thing just to try to suck some ideas out and i ended up abandoning that when it still only had one page i think. i ended up scrapping and forgetting about the entire thing because i felt that the effort it was taking wasnt worth only a few people seeing it. though i probably should have continued as it was one of the very few singleplayer campaigns/adventures for the game, even though the gamemode system is perfectly set up for that.

i could tell what i remember of the remakes/revivals:
- one remade the build and changed the setting to some post apocalyptic thing and coverted the tutorial into some kind of advanced puzzle thing like from portal. ended up being too ambitious and taking too much effort. i dont think i even finished making the tutorial segment before i stopped.
- in a revival project i had completely removed that time puzzle thing where the colors changed to black and white etc in favor of featuring acm city. i wanted it to be some camp for refugees of some disaster or something. i still hadnt thought about the story too much but thats probably what gave the thing its charm anyway, after that i started making some big water cliff area that you had to walk the side on. i think i simply lost interest in this one. i think there was a topic of this one in creativity.
- the last remake project was a complete rebuild to make the build look nicer, no real thematic changes just making the build make more sense. i remember ditching that weird well thing for a cave next to the tutorial that led to a broken car tunnel which led to the next area that the well would have taken you. i think i stopped while making the second outdoor area. there should be a creativity topic for this one too.

i think if i were to try to revive this again, it would be a complete remake, probably ditch the music to make it more plug and play, and use what i now know about scripting to try to improve the experience. also that new duplicator would help a whole lot, thats an amazing tool.

also just some updates on me, idk if people would like to know but i used to be known as crispy, now my ingame name is piber20. i was also having a problem with bluescreens, blockland, and steam but i found my main key luckily and plopped that in a non-steam blockland installation and all's better now. there's also two other keys associated with my ip/me i think, one is used very commonly by my brother, and i recently let my sister play with the other one as i didnt need it after finding my main key. just know that if you see a crispy, their blid is not 3300 and that means its not me. my alt which is in use by my sister still has the name crispy as i type but she may change it in the future so just know that if you see crispy its not me. also if you see crispy anywhere in the internet its probably not me either as that's a very common username and why i changed mine.

also this is a call for help: is there any documentation for blockland that would help me know what functions exist and what they do because my only sources are other add-ons and what functions i know came from copying and pasting from these add-ons, and playing with it. also now knowing that lol would you guys be interested in me posting my add-ons on this forum again? my website gets like no views and neither does the blockland nexusmods site.

anyway, have a good day you guys. :cookie:

Sorry for the delay. After attempting to reproduce it twice, the bluescreen did not occur. Funny, the moment I actually want it to happen and it doesnt, haha.

Well here's what I did anyway. The pictures are poor quality due to my phone being behind the times, but hopefully I captured what was going on. The intention of using my phone was to take a picture of the bluescreen itself, but that didn't happen. Right click and open in new tab/window to see their full size.

Showing my setup, so you guys would know I have two screens, with youtube open in the smaller screen. This is what I do regularly and represents my usual activity.

Pictures of the blockland files. This should be a fresh installation off of steam, nearly untouched by me.

Here is blockland open and a youtube video playing. Again, this represents my usual activity, and I tend to have a youtube video playing on the second screen for nearly every game I play.

First attempt to bsod:

I join the battlemix server and start downloading the files. Downloaded pretty quickly.

I finish loading and spawn in the server. The youtube video is still playing in the other screen. It was at this point that I opened the escape menu and pressed "Quit." It closed blockland normally without any bluescreen.

Second attempt to bsod:

I open up blockland again and joined a different server, downloading lots of files. I did this because I remembered having played on another server before joining the battlemix server.

I leave that server after spawning in it, and join and spawn in battlemix again in the same blockland session.

I press quit and... all is normal.

I cant seem to repeat it, which is disapointing because I wanted to show it happening. I've attatched the console.log to this post, though I doubt it will help as I failed to repeat the bsod.

What I've decided to do is just continue on with what I've been doing normally, and if I happen to stumble upon the bsod again I will try to remember to take a picture of the bluescreen, and send the console log here. I'm also thinking that it could be unrelated to blockland, and that it could be a severe bug with a firefox addon or a driver issue. Should I lock this topic for now?

354
I'll try reproducing it, i'm just nervous that's all. I'll be taking pictures using my phone because i'm pretty sure i can't screencap and save it while in a bluescreen. I'll try joining battlemix again, with a youtube video open and playing like before, and off a fresh installation of blockland on steam. Hope I can get data for you people.

355
as i have reinstalled blockland, i have no console.log to provide, sorry. if i experience the bluescreen again, i'll post it. kinda spooked about thinking of trying to recreate the issue

356
have not posted here in months so i apologise if i make a mistake while posting this, also if i remember correctly there is no edit button for this board :/

this has happened to me around three times during the last few months. in all instances i was in a nonspecific server and have downloaded a lot of files from the server.

last time this bsod happened was when i tried to quit blockland via the escape menu while still in sentry's battlemix (may have spelled their name wrong) this was only a few days ago on sunday, august 14th. i reinstalled steam blockland and have not played it since.

in all instances (if i remember correctly)
1. blockland was at a near-vanilla state, barely modded.
2. i had a long and quite enjoyable visit in a server that downloaded thousands of files while it was loading.
3. i had firefox opened in a separate window, with a youtube video playing not in fullscreen. had quite a bit of addons for firefox, including a youtube+ greasemonkey script and ublock.
4. blockland was running in a window, no fullscreen or borderless.
5. the steam version of blockland was being played.

system info
windows 10, upgraded from windows 8.1, which was also updated from windows 8.
2 screens/monitors, one smaller than the other, which had the youtube video playing.

no other game has ever done this to me, including steam blockland itself until a few months ago.

link to a microsoft hardware dev center site which may be useful?
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff557386(v=vs.85).aspx

thoughts:
1. could this be caused by the steam overlay on blockland confusing my system somehow?
2. could this be caused by having youtube open alongside blockland, confusing my system somehow?
3. could this be caused by some sort of blockland file cache issue, causing a severe bug or maybe an intentional attack? (kinda stretching it here)

i have no idea why this is happening, and has made me quite wary of playing blockland via steam. my non-steam blockland installation works fine, and i have been using it as a testing ground for my add-ons, never joining a server except my own.

downloaded development on a separate near-fresh installation to test it out. downloaded the required files according to the prompt that showed up. console complained that Support_Preferences does not have a client.cs (it's right, i looked inside, it doesnt.) restarted blockland just to make sure everything's alright. started a non-dedi passworded internet server:

the server simply would not load so i quit right here by closing the console.

also things seem to be using getSubStr in a way that throws errors into the console. not sure if this is a large problem

my guess based on not even looking at the code: it seems to kick me for not having the client of the prefs system, even though i am the host and the prefs system does not even have a client. i could be wrong though.

edit: after looking through the code a bit, it seems to delete the client if they dont have the client mods without checking if its the host. also the prefs addons doesnt have a client still. not sure if its because it downloaded wrong but i cant seem to find an alternate modern download of this prefs addon.

looking more into the code makes me worried. i don't want the host to force me to download client mods!

some suggestions i have:
- allow the client mods to give a reason after youre kicked. "You need X mod so you can X." "You need Cool Keybinds! mod so you can DO SUPER COOL THINGS!." etc. have the links be an ingame download. if i dont want to download them, let me bypass with a "Join anyway" button which forces the server not to kick me that time. if they really dont want me there without the client mods, they can always kick/ban me manually.
- alternatively/on top of the above, have the client mods auto-download, with some VERY VERY strict rules on what the client mod can do. i dont want my installation to be destroyed or messed up! also have the client mods delete once i leave the server!

Add-Ons / Re: New Duplicator 1.0.3
« on: November 26, 2015, 10:46:24 PM »
Version 1.0.3
- Feature: Additional keybinds
    - Ctrl C to select/switch to plant mode
    - Ctrl V to place bricks in plant mode
    - Ctrl X to cut bricks
make these customizable in options > controls! (only for people who actually have the new dup of course)

also a nice feature would be the ability to set the ownership of bricks you duplicate, which should be admin only by default, and should ask if you're sure once you plant the bricks.

Suggestions & Requests / Re: Shadows, but no shiny bricks
« on: November 26, 2015, 10:31:09 PM »
this doesn't stop the light reflection off of it
it does if the alpha colors are not white. even fully transparent colors need to be a light color so they can shine. try removing all of the white from the brick textures and they should not shine.
