As an added note, my preferred method of learning a language has to be learning the basic syntax with some tutorials, then diving in with a project just beyond your comfort zone. From there work out how you would do things and whenever you run into a snag, search for alternate methods. Almost inevitably you will end up with a mess of code, but that's when you should revise and rewrite. I find it a nice hands on method.

If you decide to go with C++, chose an IDE you like (I use Code::Blocks. It's what I started with, and I now that I'm used to it I probably won't switch anytime soon), and give SFML a shot.
It's primarily a 2D graphics library, and should be fine for everything you want to do.

And if so, what language?

I, personally, know absolutely zero. It kills me that I'm 14 and love computers yet I know jack about coding, so I would like to learn how to. Some pointers, tips, somewhere to start etc. etc. from the ~pros~ would be nice. I'd also like to know a language that strikes a good balance between quality and easy-medium to learn. I'm not trying to be a second Notch, I'd like to do something Dwarf Fortress/Goblin Camp/Rogue Survivor/Elona-esque. So, hear my pleas, Blockland Forums! A rough estimate of how long it would take to become -decent- at coding *INSERT LANGUAGE HERE* would be nice, too.

Note, unlike what you probably caught from this block of text, this topic is actually a poll.
A lot of rouge likes (dwarf fortress especially) are far more complex then minecraft will ever be, if that's what you're getting at.

That said I would say C++ is one of the better options.
Don't bother with Lua, it will get you nowhere. Java would be my secondary option. It's alright and easy to get started with.

Coming from the ignorant starfish who probably wouldn't last a week.
Atleast I'd get promoted in that week.

I know it's probably fake, I'm very paranoid though. He told me my name and my age.
Like that's very difficult information to find.

Clearly the only way to fix it is to post about it.

Okay, if you want to be a stupid bigot who makes sports look bad, thats fine. You are only doing others a favor by making anti-sport attitude seem appropriate.

Go put on your little tight pants and destroy your body in a pointless game of football because you're academically handicapped. Have fun.
You are hilarious. You really are.

You really are stupid. You aren't helping the "people who play sports are meathead idiots" stereotype right now.
No, I'm right. You just don't know it yet.

Not everyone finds sports fun. Respect people's opinions.
That's because you don't play them.

They do benefit you. It's probably the only exercise you get in the run of a week.
If they let everyone do things at their own pace, nobody would do stuff. That's how school works.

They aren't teaching you ways to stay in shape. It's up to the individual to do that. But they are at least getting you off your ass for an hour to do something physically demanding. That's probably one of the few things a lot of you kids actually need.
