Lorens watches Walter's Shikra turn around to support the ground troops. He feels inclined to do the same, but the threat of two super fighters carrying deflagration weapons is immediately more concerning. Lorens brings the gun funnel onto his HUD and takes aim at the Hyperion. Though the target designator arc has yet to meet the in-range cue, he pulls the trigger and fires both Gauss cannons. The extreme recoil takes a few dozen knots off his airspeed.

Ash looks over his shoulder as his flight begins its descent. He hopes that Letterman's death was painless.

Further below, the Shiva shreds through the lowest folds of the troposphere on its way to the drop point. Lorens instinctively looks for the falling reflector array, but the rain clouds overhead occlude his view.

"I'm taking out that last drone launcher, using JSM." The targeting pod camera gyrates to cue the launcher. Lorens thumbs the button and releases another two missiles, which veer left and steeply ascend before arcing back down on the target.

Reflecting Array Attack The HUD's impact timer flashes zero, its final decrement met with a distant flash. In an instant, the sinking reflector array accelerates to a meteoric plummet. "Splash! Look at that thing go!" Ash turns to get a better view, drinking in the sight until it falls below the lip of the canopy. "Alright, I'm getting the forget out'a dodge. Watchtower, Blackeye, requesting vector to homeplate."

Palisade, Phase 1 "[The forget?]," Lorens blurts in confusion, "The blast actually tore the damn thing open. I'm sending another missile," he wastes no time loosing another Joint-Strike Missile. "Rifle!"

Reflecting Array Attack Ash catches sight of the drone getting blown to bits. Hearing Markus' callout, he decides to hold off on rearming and instead turns back around to bolster the saturation attack. "Watchtower, Blackeye, cancel rejoin, I'm turning back around to attack!" Ash trains the Corsair's scanner to the reflector's remaining levitation plate and fires his last two RGMs. "Fox one!"

Palisade, Phase 1 "Looks like one of the rounds hit, no visible effect on target," Lorens notes, "Using JSM." With the SPI already set in the Shiva's targeting pod, it's a simple matter to arm the strike missiles and train the electro-optical seeker to its target. Lorens thumbs the munitions release button and sends two JSMs to finish off Silo H. "Rifle ripple!"

Reflecting Array Attack "Dammit," Ash mutters, "SWACS, copy, I am engaged defensive, will read back bearing and altitude once I confirm splash on the bandit!" The Corsair bobs and weaves in guns defense. Ash looks over his shoulder, but it's too difficult to make the drone out against the stratosphere.

Palisade, Phase 1 The Shiva returns to altitude and levels off. Lorens marks Silo H with a SPI and prepares to attack. "I'm going to plug that last silo. Snowman, in hot!" He pushes down on the stick and dives on his target. The massive dorsal airbrake extends to handicap the aircraft's descent. Lorens puts the pipper over the center of the silo door and squeezes the trigger.

Reflecting Array Approach Sparks shower the canopy as the laser beam carves a molten gash down the length of the fuselage. Ash yelps, turns his fighter back around with all haste and maneuvers erratically to defend from further laser attacks. "SWACS, Blackeye," Ash calls out over a secure comms channel, "I've turned back around and am now flying to you on vector 140, request rejoin for aerial rearmament," he finishes with a gulp and exhales.

Palisade, Phase 1 "Scratch one drone launcher! Snowman, turning South! Defending!" Lorens throws out a chaff packet and jinks right to avoid the missile. He continues South and starts undulating his flight path to avoid a potential attack from the Palisade.

Reflecting Array Approach "How many loving drones does this thing have?" Still wary of the plasma gun's temperature, Ash decides it would be better to eliminate the threat and make room for a COMRO resupply. "That first drone is on my radar now," he communicates, "Fox one ripple!" Another two missiles drop from their pylons and shoot off to intercept Bothynus-9.

Palisade, Phase 1 "Damn, missed. I'm turning back around to take another shot," Lorens announces. The Shiva continues turning and eventually rolls out in front of the drone launcher. He pulls the trigger and fires both Gauss cannons.

Reflecting Array Approach "forgetin' A! That's all three! Good shooting, everyone!" Once Ash deems the Corsair fit to fly in the stratosphere for the forseeable future, he targets the reflector array and fires another two semi-active missiles. "Fox one on the target!"

Palisade, Phase 1 "Scratch one LAMS! That drone launcher (atop building C) is next! Snowman, in hot!" Lorens quickly makes a shallow roll and turns a few degrees to the left before leveling his wings. The coilgun's calculated point of impact falls over the target. "Guns!" Two sabot rounds are explosively discharged from the coilguns and sent downrange at hypersonic speed. Lorens increases power, releases a chaff packet should the scrambler fail and pulls up into a steeply banked ascending turn.

Reflecting Array Approach "Good stuff Scorch!" Ash pitches the Corsair to face the reflector array and slaves his radar to the third and fourth Lunadart. "Starviper-6, take the shot!," Ash thumbs the munitions release button, unleashing one heavy active radar missile apiece, "Ripple fox medium!"

Palisade, Phase 1 Lorens pitches back down, feeling somewhat embarrassed for even trying to shoot a flying target from so far away. His chagrin quickly fades however as the flight enters missile range of the facility. "Hang on, I'll try disabling that LAMS emplacement (atop building C)." The CCIP reticle appears on the HUD. Disregarding the range cue, Lorens places the pipper over the target and fires both guns.

Reflecting Array Approach "[Holy loving Ark!] Blackeye, defending!" Unsure if he saw a glint in his mirrors, Ash throws out three chaff packets before jinking left. He continues flying East, praying for dear life that his horizontal traverse will outpace the tracking of the reflector array. To keep away from the Lunadart's laserfire, Ash does his best to maneuver erratically in guns defense.

Palisade, Phase 1 "That's another rocket! I'm going to try shooting it down!" Though the booster lay well outside his weapons envelope, Lorens calls the gunsight to his HUD and takes radar-assisted aim. By now, the rocket had accelerated enough for the solution to be placed high above the Palisade tower. He does his best to keep the gun cross centered on the marker and gently squeezes the trigger.

Reflecting Array Approach Ash overshoots the bandit in a flash. Though extreme airspeeds make it difficult to determine exactly what happened, Ash figures the Lunadart must have pulled a Cobra. Guy's got guts. He slams the power lever forward and pushes the engines to their limit. With the Lunadart likely possessing greater speed and maneuverability than the Corsair, Ash elects the help of the Mercanan stratofighters. "Starviper-6, this is Blackeye, I've got the bandit lead on my six. I'm currently driving back South by East. On my mark, I'm going to turn around and fire on one of your Lunadarts. The moment I do, can I trust you to shoot mine?"

Palisade, Phase 1 The Shiva is hit with another laser strike, leaving a scar of molten slag trailing across its port ventral body. Lorens pays the damage no heed and presses forward. His RWR picks up the radar scans of Umbral-2. He takes the initiative by firing his remaining all-aspect missiles at the drone.

Reflecting Array Approach The Lunadarts blow past Ash's canopy in a blur. "[forget it!] Starviper flight, this is Blackeye, I've merged with the threat! I'm turning back around to engage the bandits, we can't attack the target with these starfishs breathing down our necks!" In that moment, Ash increases power and pulls into an Immelmann to get above and behind the bandits. Looking directly up to index his maneuver with the horizon, a peculiar rising feeling takes hold in his loins as he realizes how far down the planet's surface is. He soon finds the first Lunadart, brings it to his nose and rights his aircraft. "I've got the bandit lead on my nose now! He's in my sights!" Ash pulls the trigger, "Guns!"

Palisade, Phase 1 The Shiva shudders as its reactive armor ablates from the laser strike. Lorens clicks his tongue and continues undeterred. "Going after the second Typhoon!" Lorens places the IR seeker diamond on Typhoon-2. The shrill cry of the launch authorization tone pulsates in his ears. "I've got tone!" A pair of all-aspect missiles detach from the pylons and shoot forward on a path to intercept their target, "Fox-2 ripple! Crash, Snowman, I'm leaving formation to join the strike group!" Trusting the missiles will prevent the threat from making additional attacks, the Shiva drops out of the formation and maneuvers in with Djuriskas flight. "Djuriskas flight, this is Snowman, I'll trail guys you to the target," he enunciates.

Reflecting Array Approach "Hang on Scorch, I'm gonna shoot the bandit going after you!" Ash does his best to bring his guns to bear over the second Lunadart. He manages to bring the solution marker over the aerospace fighter and pulls the trigger.

Palisade, Phase 1 "Snowman, defending inbound fox-2!" Lorens watches the smoke trail and waits for the missile to close in. Roughly six seconds from impact, he drops two strings of flares and jinks hard to trash the missile.

Reflecting Array Approach "I can't, I'm already tracking another target, I'm gonna extend back to range after I get the splash to target the reflectors," Ash replies. He maneuvers to keep the drone in the radar reference circle.

Palisade, Phase 1 "Shortsword, Snowman, roger! Engaging offensive!" Lorens slowly drags the gunsight over Typhoon-6 and squeezes the trigger. Enormous plumes of fire flash from both muzzles as two sabot rounds thunder down range.
