"Missile launch! Crash! You have two heaters inbound on you, defend!," Lorens shouts, "He's extending back to range, I'm going after him!"

You're going to regret showing your backside, pal! Figuring the bandit must've lost speed in his high-G turn, Lorens leans on the burners and chases down the super fighter. Completely unladen and down to half fuel, the Tigershark continues accelerating like a dropped piano. Lorens finds the bandit in his gunsight once more and pulls the trigger.

The missile miraculously sails past the Tigershark's canopy and into the wild blue yonder—if only briefly—before exploding several dozen meters off his 9 o'clock.

"... forgetin' Ark, that's too close!," Lorens heaves out in between grunts, "I'm turning towards him now! We need to forget this guy up fast!"

Fire spits out of the exhaust nozzle as Lorens slams the throttle. He brings the gun funnel back to his HUD, puts the bandit in the marker and pulls the trigger for all it's worth.

Faw's blood pressure spikes as the Starling does an acrobatic reverse and fires missiles at him and the other pilots. He punches the comms and shouts out a message to his squadmates.

"Enemy aircraft firing missiles at us! CM if you've got some left!"

Faw maxes out the throttle and zooms towards Crash, popping both his flares as he nears Jakko's plane.

"I see the missiles, I'm defending!"

Lorens breaks off from Jaakko, turns until the missile is at his 3 o'clock and begins counting in his head. At the point where he approximates the missile is six seconds to impact, he immediately drops power to idle and dips down before pitching into a tight loop.

"Crash, Snowman, I'm regrouping on you. Watch your port side," Lorens turns back around and settles besides the Fulcrum's left wing.

"I'm going to try to get above this guy," Lorens announces. He pulls back on the stick and begins ascending to get a better position to engage.

"Missile launch, I'm dumping flares! Skytracer, come to me and put out your flares too! Crash, try to follow in after Skytracer!"

Lorens throws out a string of flares and hopes the other two can use them.

"I'll join on you as soon as I whack this Fulcrum," Lorens responds, "Coma, Snowman, I've got the guy after you, watch your six!"

He plants the marker right on Fulcrum-2 and pulls the trigger. "Guns!"

Lorens catches a glimpse of the Fishbed exploding behind him.

"Good kill, good kill! Djuriskas flight, this is Snowman, I have tally on your bandits, I'm engaging the Fulcrum from high!"

He levels out with the target on his nose when he hears the RWR squeal. The Imperial AWACS symbol shows up on the display, as well as a threat symbol he's never seen before.

"Two nails 3 o'clock high, one AWACS and one unknown fast-mover," he calls out, "The fast one is heading straight for us. Crash, you seein' this?"

Jaakko fires a hasty shot at Fishbed-8 and attempts to get on his tail.

Gah, he's still on me!

Still pitched in vertical ascent, Lorens tries to jink into a half loop over the MiG to foil his aim.

"Command, this is Blackeye, I cannot complete that order. My fighter is hit. I'm egressing North to intercept the ferry course as briefed," Ash responds.


Lorens levels out his plane and finds that the missile went wide. "Fox defeated! Crash, I see the guy after you, I'm going vertical to try to lose the guy behind me!" Making use of his thrust-to-weight advantage over the MiG, Lorens pulls back on the stick and ignites the burners to enter a vertical climb. He hopes the Fishbed on his tail will either give up the chase or stall trying.

Ash looks out the canopy in time to see the missiles explode not a hundred meters away. "Ho-holy stuff! Pansar, you're a forgetin' lifesaver, man! Thanks a million! If we make it to the next bar, the drinks are on me!" He shoves the lever back to maximum dry power and continues speeding away from the fight.

The MAW tone signals to Lorens he's lost the heatseeker roulette. "Crash, kill him! I've got a heater inbound on me, I'm breaking hard left!" He pulls back the power lever, steeply banks the Tigershark, and pitches into a gut-busting downward spiral.

Ash sucks in air though his mouth as he closes in on Pansar. Wide-eyed and numbed in a fit of tachypsychia, he throws the power lever back down to idle and pounds the countermeasures release button. Ash focuses on the Fulcrum heading straight towards him and strangles the flight stick in his clutches, bracing himself for the merge.

Further South, Lorens sees the Fishbed fall behind him. "Crash, Snowman, I'm engaged defensive! Can you thatch-weave?" He starts maneuvering to keep away from the bandit's sights.

Ash's heart sinks at the wail of the MAW tone. "... That's two more missiles! I don't know if this thing can take any more hard Gs!"

Lorens merges with the third Fishbed. He pounds the dashboard in frustration as it shoots past his canopy. "Blackeye, defend!"

"I'll try!" Grasping for a way to lose the missiles, he turns his fighter towards Djuriskas flight and thumbs the comms frequency dial. "Djuriskas actual- Pansar! Someone! This is Mjolnir-5, could one of you throw out some flares!? I've got two missiles tracking me and I don't know if I can trash them!"

Meanwhile, Lorens slams the power lever forward and races to the fifth Fishbed. He puts the solution marker over the bandit and squeezes the trigger.

Lorens goes after Fishbed 3.

"Blackeye, are you hit?," he inquires.

"Yeah, that starfish put a few holes in my fuselage. Tore it up real good," Ash responds.

"Bug out! If you can't continue with the original flight plan, go back to the carrier!"

"I'm going! Crash, this is Blackeye, I've been hit, I'm turning back North."

Ash breaks away from the formation and tries to get away from the fight. He checks to see if the Tigershark sprung any leaks.

Lorens gets a bead on the third Fishbed and fires his guns.

"Wooo! That's first blood! Poor sods don't know what they're dealing with!," Ash revels in triumph.

"Blackeye, I've merged on you, I'm turning around again!"

"Snowman, stay high above me! I'll engage the third guy!"

Ash finds the third Fishbed, lines up the gun funnel over the target and pulls the trigger. "Guns!"
