Off Topic / Building a House in a Tree With My Friends - Submit Your Ideas!
« on: May 18, 2010, 12:35:13 AM »
So my friends and I decided to work together a summer project, and came up with the idea to expand my current treehouse. Keep in mind our budget is somewhere from 300-1000$ depending on how many friends we get involved, and what ideas we actually use. I decided to make this topic about it to keep you guys up to date on the progress, and to get ideas/suggestions.
Here's the current dimensions:

(Drawn in AutoCad 2010. The Ovals are the trees, and the other corners are held up by 4x4s cemented in the ground.)
So yeah, that's what's already done and in my yard. For a visual, it's a platform raised off the ground 8 feet, connected to 2 pine trees like drawn above. It's roughly 150 feet away from my house, at the foot of my woods.
Anyways, our current intentions are as follows:
It's basically a loving house in some trees.
ANYWAYS. We're planning on laying out everything before we start on a computer, and doing actual structural stress tests to see if our design will be sturdy enough the way we build it. So yeah, anyone have any neat/cool ideas for us within reason? Also if anyone's experienced in construction, I'm sure we could use some points since none of us have really worked in that field before.
If you come up with a good idea within a reasonable amount of money, we'll do it.

Anyways, our current intentions are as follows:
- Expand the existing floor to be 16x16ft.
- Add a Second Floor that is 16x16ft.
- Add a loft for sleeping 3-4 feet above the second floor
- Cut a 4x4ft square hole through both floors for an elevator that works based on pulleys and weights.
- Run electricity, cable, and internet down from the house.
- Completely insulate it.
- Install a window A/C unit.
- Use electric heaters with temperature gauges in the winter.
- Drywall, paint.
- Linoleum/Cheap Hardwood/Carpet.
- And finally, furniture.
