Drama / Re: So, what've I missed?
« on: August 06, 2014, 08:33:24 PM »
Badspot's gonna do what he wants to do. I empathize entirely with his point about not wanting to continue work on Blockland just because it's not fun anymore. That's how I felt about CityRPG which is why it never reached the polished state I desired of it. I also don't want to pick sides in any sort of long-standing feud. I got my $20 out of Blockland.

Though if you're looking for something Blockland-ish to invest time in, look up Space Engineers. loving awesome little game in alpha that actually gives the early access system a good use. I hope to see a lot come out of it.
well i linked it because you mentioned about badspot despising modders, when he says right in the topics that he wants the game to feed into itself through mods and continue growing that way. he also talks about how instead of looking for updates, people should work with what they have. i don't agree with it at all, but i think it's interesting how he says the opposite of what you think he thinks.

Instead, he sort of despised modders. He constantly stuff talk how low quality add-ons were. He acted like having to make add-on packages easier to install was a bad thing that shouldn't be expected of him. He made accessible features harder to utilize because of things like people spoofing his name and constantly showed contempt for his own user base.

I respect Badspot's success in his industry, but I my personal feelings towards him are negatively skewed in the same way that you might feel about a neglectful father. I feel he let his community down, and I feel he never really cared. The game was a business to him and nothing more.
if you're looking for a good read, try this and then this. i think that's the most badspot's talked about the 'future' of this game.

i guess this is related, azuritereaction just uploaded this

yea screw that. he says that "99% of people don't understand copyright" and that people are getting mad over nothing. except people do understand what he explained and it's exactly what they're mad about. "well yea if you're playing REAL music not made for the game then you will get muted. and if you're playing music made for the game you have a chance to get muted! don't worry guys!"

General Discussion / Re: Some concerns
« on: August 06, 2014, 01:48:49 PM »
people cried the day rtb was shut down and stopped caring the next day. nothing was lost. back ups of addons were made and chat alternatives were made.
lol that's so not true. way to try to speak for everyone, brat.

"chat alternatives" with 20 users and basic ghetto file lists are good compensation? wow, you really don't value what RTB had to offer.
  • Add-ons system that auto posted to the forums
  • Allows downloading add-ons from in-game
  • Browsable add-ons 'store' where you can search by category and downloading matching mod packs
  • Add-on uploader and manager that easily allowed people to upload and maintain their add-ons
    • Also supported private/WIP add-ons
  • Weekly newsfeed of hot files
  • RTB add-ons system received more content than the forums
  • All RTB add-ons had ad-free direct links. no lost files, wait 10 seconds, or "Type in Ford to continue"
  • RTB auto notified users if there was an update for their add-ons so users didn't have to monitor the forums for updates
  • In game add-on downloader makes it so you just click download and start up a game
  • Community features tailored for blockland specifically
  • Shows server info including current players and add-ons used
  • Gives in-game server options allowing more customization of server settings
  • Database of IDs and name history
  • GUI style that actually fit with the game
  • Chat system allowing you to join friends and other players directly
  • Cheap, quality server hosting with a variety of management features and graphs
  • Quality service built specifically for blockland, with many more features than the ones listed here.

Not trying to be disrespectful here, but he doesn't do it to make anyone's lives better, he does it for fun. He doesn't release anything anymore either as far as I know. (Also I remember him saying that he regretted releasing the first BLHack)
what he should do is release it to badspot to help fix holes in the game.

General Discussion / Re: Badspot shutting down v20 servers
« on: August 05, 2014, 05:19:02 PM »
It was already patched.
then what's the big deal? if people aren't getting tricked into joining incompatible servers, what's wrong with hosting v20 servers?

it's pretty stupid to get mad over people hosting an old version of the game. i mean, you remove a feature a bunch of player's liked and then get mad at the players when they want to revisit it? lol. you should've easily predicted this and patched the master server accordingly so they can only play through direct IP.

personally i'd just like to be able to play multiplayer without the crappy rubberbanding and connection bugs. though they're probably just going to pile on a bunch of features and leave the optimization for last.

Then this game isn't for you. It is just that simple.

You hunt AI.
You trade with AI.
You are a biologist just because. You do it because you see different stuff.
You are an explorer, you look at the crazy stuff the universe throws at you.

Think about an extensive look at Minecraft. They said they are going to add a more traditional multiplayer mode later on.
well i hate interacting only with boring/repetitive AI, don't like games where you just stare at things, and i think minecraft's survival mode is garbage, so i guess it's not for me. i might take another look at it once some actual gameplay is released.
The developers want to create a hype factor by making people use their imagination until they get the game.
yea that's exactly the thing i don't like. it's nice in theory, but usually it just leads to disappointment almost every time. i'd much rather imagine things based on what i know i can do in the game. (eg: "i know trading and pirating is going to be included so i'm hyped imagining my friends and I going on raids and conquering the world!" vs "i hope trading and pirating is included! i'm getting excited just thinking about all the stuff i might be able to do! this game has so much potential i can't wait to buy it!"

Drama / Re: Okiver's bunker server
« on: August 01, 2014, 07:36:08 PM »
I was on Blockland, as usual and saw "okiver's okiver bunker server" in the server list. i joined to be greeted by a lone 141k ID, who asked what okiver was. i left and told as many people as i could. Is okiver back or something? if so, forgettits.
i don't really get it. you left and told people that this guy's back, but then came here to ask if he's back? so you just ran around to a bunch of servers acting like an idiot fear mongering about something that you admit you don't even know is true? seems pretty stupid.

You can be a bounty hunter, a trader, a biologist, a explorer - this is, again, a touchy subject.
they stress that you won't probably ever see players ever, and that if you do there isn't going to be alliances and stuff, so i don't really understand how this is really going to impact anything. a biologist would be cool, you study the life but then what do you do with it? they say you can share it with others, but also stress that others probably won't ever see your stuff anyway. they built this huge generation system and life sized planets, but for what? what is there to do besides just stare at them and repeat?

i just think it would be more interesting if players had more of an influence on eachother. interacting with other people is a whole lot more interesting than boring AI. meeting up with a group of biologist and sharing stories of your findings, finding a settlement and trading with eachother, grouping up to explore a cool looking cave. these are all things that would make the game so much more interesting, and would make the world feel like it's actually growing. instead though, it seems they're pushing the "guys it's a UNIVERSE of size look its huge scale the planets are BIG and RANDOM" which can be cool and all, but just inflating the size of things isn't always that interesting.
This game is in a late-Alpha state.
take this with a grain of salt. never trust the "it's an alpha" excuse.
