Games / Searching for a game in which I do not know the title
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:26:21 AM »
Alrighty.

A LONG time ago, back in like, 1999, I borrowed a Demo Disc for Playstation (1) that had a certain game demo on it.

The game was anime style, it was 3D but a side scroller. It involved you playing as a girl (I think), and you would come across creatures like Wolves, Porcupines, and other creatures I can't remember, and when you killed them you were then granted the power to transform into them. So if you killed the wolf, you could transform into a wolf.

I have searched everywhere, and still can't find the name of it... Anyone heard of it?

Off Topic / The joy of putting stuff in my computer
« on: December 08, 2010, 10:03:56 PM »
In computers class I finally learned (properly) how to take apart an entire computer and put it back together again and have it boot up on the first try. This means I'm pretty much clear on how the hardware works.

Using random stuff I found around the house and in my dad's office, I installed to my computer:

Off Topic / Repairing a computer from 1993

A little while back my Grandfather gave me a computer that belonged to my grandmother (who died of cancer in 2004), and he wanted me to recover the letters that she typed up on it as the machine was old and didn't boot up properly.

I managed to boot up the OS with DOS, it had Windows 3.1 installed on it. A few of you have seen me load it up on Livestream. Keep in mind back in the days of 3.1, there was no desktop, there was "Program manager". If you want to find out more about Windows 3.1, Google it.

Anyhoo, I opened the machine up to get a rundown of hardware specs. After unintentionally inhaling about 40 kilos of ancient cigarette smoke, I got a photo with my phone, sorry for the quality.

It's an AMI (American Megatrends Inc) machine, with some extra cards in there. The hard drive it came with was only 256 MB, according to my grandfather it was upgraded to a 639.9 MB hard drive later on in the 90's.

Close up of the hard drive:

Ever heard of a WD Caviar 2635? I suppose not.

Welp, I've gotta continue cleaning this thing up and then figure out a way to get the data off of it (No USB or network, just serial and VGA...) and maybe later on I'll post a full rundown of this old thing.

General Discussion / Blockland and Mobile Broadband
« on: November 29, 2010, 10:43:36 PM »
I recently installed a Bellâ„¢ Canada Turbo Hub for my grandfather (he lives in a rural area where standard wired broadband isn't available), the way it works is that it's basically a big cell phone with internet usage only. It just connects to the computer and sends a longrange Wifi signal to a nearby cellphone tower and uses that to get internet.

Out of complete curiosity, would it be possible to play a multiplayer game of Blockland with Mobile Broadband? Not that my grandpops is a hardcore gaming junkie, I was just curious as to if it would be possible or not, and how speeds would be with the Turbo Hub.
