My house has a mercury thermostat, we replaced it recently and i took the mercury one into the basement and broke it open. I played with it and stuff it was pretty cool.I took it out and put it in my hands. I got a magnet and played with it. I dropped it and now its all over the garage floor. It was fun to play with. I don't think it is dangerous in little amounts considering I had it all over my hands and never got sick from it.
