Pretty much that. My mom writes in Cursive Print, meaning she combines both. Its literally impossible to read.

Go back to the tower and take spare parts from the other portals.
Going back would be a huge waste of time since Soren already took all the removable parts from the portals in the tower. They won't help considering the part that is broken is completely unrepairable and these portals don't run off magic. The portal would explode if you activated it. Its best just to forget about it and move on.
