all the planets will line up which has the potential to knock Earth off it's axis
The combined gravitational pulls of the moon and the sun only causes the seas to rise a few feet. The other planets gravitational effects on earth are VERY minuscule in comparison. Just about anything is possible but this has roughly the same probability of occurring as you gaining the ability to fly with your ears and breathe pink fire through your naval the next time you wake up.

x=y
x=x
1=1
Dividing by x wasn't what really broke the problem though. Dividing by x is normally perfectly legal unless it has been forced to equal 0.

2x=x
2=1
It only broke by dividing by x there because I already divided by x-y a few steps prior which can only equal 0. It changed the graph of the line from y=x [an infinite number of solutions] to a single point [Only one solution, (0,0)] and since x can now only equal 0 at that step, dividing by 0 a second time only breaks it even more and changes it again from one solution to no solution.

My first post that I can find was when I got the gold hook in back in 05. Only 5 people had it then.

Find the slope of the graph of y = (x-3)^1/2 when x = 2.

x=y
x^2=y^2
xy=y^2
xy-x^2=y^2-x^2
-x(x-y)=(x+y)(x-y)
-x=x+y
2x=y
2x=x
2=1
1=0

No me

I see your logic, but it's an issue of semantics as to whether the problem is broken or not. When you divide by the same number on both sides of the equation, even if it is undefined, the equality remains true.
The problem is, we are dividing out variables, which cuts out solutions. The equation is still true, but you just got rid of an infinite number of solutions. Normally, this would be okay and we could plug in what we get from the new equation to check for extraneous solutions in the original equation. But, the variable in the parenthesis (x-y) can ONLY equal 0. Dividing by 0 is an illegal step. The problem is obviously broken by that step.
