Nobody has successfully hacked Blockland at any point in time. All that fungus does is abuse events. Either don't enable VCE, or make events admin-only. And, of course, watch out for people who only plant a few bricks.

Can be done with players.
As for streamlining... almost all collision boxes are just that: boxes.

Will be very laggy due to the fact it will have to be calculated each tick.  On both the client AND server.
it also has to be done on the client becuase the client does most of the interpolation between server updates

It can be done with a new playertype, however you would also fall through the floor.

I do believe the collision masks cannot be changed through script unfortunatly.
Due to this collision is boolean: all on or 99% of it off (there does have to be some collision box no matter how small).

..Why not just use a zone?

A zone does not move with the player and there is no point creating a zone for only one tick when you can just get all the objects in X distance more easily using a builtin function
