Suggestions & Requests / Speedometers and such.
« on: February 28, 2008, 01:31:47 PM »
Has the idea of some kind of speedometer ever been considered for vehicles, along with other devices such as altimeters (although I can see that implementing something like that on a level such as bedroom many be tricky) and artificial horizons on airborne vehicles? Maybe a small instrument panel coming up in the bottom right hand corner or something. Perhaps even some kind of indicator that shows which direction you are facing, as a number of modelers seem to have a tendency of building vehicles that don't let you see what direction you are turning when you are driving them.

Not that I'm suggesting that parts of Blockland should start mimicking flight simulators. I just feel that some kind of information about what you are currently doing may make using vehicles a little easier, and may help reduce the number of plane landings that are 'Aim for an empty space and try not to bounce too much'.

I suspect that the link isn't working because it seems you are linking to http://pic5.piczo.com/go/albumeditor, which seems to be a link to the album editor page of the website you have put the images up on. look around for a link the the album proper, or individual links to the images themselves.

Alternatvly, you can just upload them to something like imageshack, which should provide you with links you can just copy and paste into a post.

Do you have many reference images? Large and complex builds, especially those based off of buildings, would probably be a lot easier if you had blueprints or something similar.

Gallery / Oil Rig DM.
« on: February 21, 2008, 07:49:26 PM »
After seeing the [USSR] Oilwell DeathMatch, I wondered if a oil rig could make a good DM. After a few weeks of sporadic work, I've knocked up a small and simple DM based on an oil rig.

It's nothing excessively detailed, weighing in at merely 3,540 bricks. I was aiming more for a good map design than a detailed build, and was looking to keep the brick count down so it wouldn't tax even the most ancient machines. Feel free to detail it up a bit if you so wish, or make any comments about it.

The 10 white squares dotted around the map can be used as spawns for whatever your choice of weapons is. You may also want some kind of script or something that kills players who fall off. Save opens in Slate Storm, or just Slate.

Number of problems here, as far as I can see.

1) You don't speak very good English on a English speaking forum.
2) Your build isn't very impressive, being a fairly small, repetitive and not very well detailed tower.
3) What you're trying to convey with it isn't exactly in very good taste.

I recommend you spend a little time learning better English and getting some idea of what is and isn't good, before you post whatever you like on the forums.

Another thing you may have a problem with is people using emmiters. A person using a fire emmiter may end up spewing smoke onto the floor above, and a person using the water emmiter will result in a torrent on the floor below. Lights might also light up the floors around them. You might need some kind of regulation on the emmiters you are and aren't allowed to use.

Probably one of the major reasons I want to join [MotE] is because it seems to be one of the only clans that has a dedicated server that lasts longer than a day or two, and is up fairly frequently.

Perhaps the submission was a bit premature. I'll spend some more time playing and start work on something more complex (not that I seem to have much free time lately - University seems to take up far too much of my time these days).

In retrospect, the shuttle probably wasn't the greatest idea to do. I'm still fairly new to creating curved surfaces in Blockland, and as mentioned before shuttles have been tried before without much success. The satellite was also probably a bad idea, but I just felt that as it was an open shuttle it needed one of those arms, and it had to be doing something.

If it's not sufficient for MotE then you might as well let this topic drop. I'll get started on something else at some point in the future.

I'd like to know if there was an interior, other than the roosterpit. Also, more information on the build specs would be nice, why you'd like to join, what inspired you, etc.

There's a little interior, but it's not much beyond the roosterpit and a room underneath; there's not much room in the head of the shuttle, even at that scale. It's a bit under 5,000 bricks, I think, and I decided to join partly due to suggestions on the MotE server, partly because I like the idea of being in a clan. As for inspiration, I don't know. I just built something I could get a few good reference images of.

Feel free to download and rate. Save opens (as you can probably guess) in Slate.
