General Discussion / Re: True Physics
« on: January 22, 2009, 09:44:55 PM »
I don't get angry when my builds fall over, not even when building something irl with Lincoln Logs, I get to a point where I say, okay anything past this point will probably cause the build to collapse. So I take a picture and try to make it to another point. And in a game you could do it even better, you could save the entire build.

*edit* and many times the knocking over is done by me catapulting projectiles at it. :x

General Discussion / True Physics
« on: January 22, 2009, 09:37:36 PM »
According to how I have interpreted the new "brick physics" is that all it does is the bricks fall down when hit with weapons or toggled with brick events, but that's not the same as true physics. When I first read about Blockland, my friend said there was basically a free version called Roblox, he kept telling me that Blockland was better and that I should get that, but my dad was out of town and my mom is paranoid about online shopping so I had to wait. My favorite type of build on Roblox, was one that just barely managed to stay up. I loved making things look almost weightless, supported by almost nothing, I also enjoy doing the same thing with Lincoln Logs. But with Blockland, you really can't do this, sure you can hang something off the rafters in bedroom, which I used to do often, but the sense of accomplishment isn't there, everything is perfectly sturdy and there is no risk of that changing. It may look weightless, but really and truly, its not at any risk of it falling down or anything, which is annoying, true. But it's exciting all the same.

Not really, I'm not trying to rip anyone off, all I am doing is asking if anyone would like to do this with me.

Graphics Cards, Houses upon top of the motherboard. There are two major brands of graphics cards, nvidia and ati, I personally prefer nvidia. I know how nvidia cards are judged, but not ati. Nvidia cards speed is based upon increments of 100s, and is currently in generation X200s(10200s). Graphics cards process textures and get them to your screen, they share a joint burden with RAM (Random Access Memory) and you need ample of both to run speedily. You can have more than one graphics card with technology offered by the company who makes them.

While not the most important part, I must disagree.

I guess I'll explain all the parts to you:

Case, Can affect your computer's performance based on how well it disperses heat.

Power Suppy, judged based on wattage, this takes the electricity from your outlet and distributes it to all of your parts.

Motherboard, the center of everything, houses the Micro Processor (CPU) and has extremely basic versions (From now on called "onboard") of all the other "unnecessary" parts.

Hard Drive, Stores all files on your computer, including your operating system (OS). Judged based on capacity which is represented in bytes, 1024 bytes is a kilabyte, 1024 kilabytes is a megabyte, 1024 megabytes is a gigabyte, and 1024 gigabytes is a terabyte. Multiple hard-drives can be installed, one being the master, or higher up than the others, (this one houses the OS) and the rest being slaves.

CD Drive, reads your discs that you put in, judged based upon quality to which it can scan(bluray vs dvd).
multiples can be installed.

CPU, Placed in the middle of the motherboard under a large, individual fan, this processes all your information, judged based on hertz. Ex: an average computer would be maybe.... 2 gigahertz?(I am not extremely educated on cpu, you may want a second opinion on what its judged upon.)

RAM, or Random Access Memory is housed on top of the motherboard. This is what jointly shares the burden with your graphics card of getting your picture to your screen. While not sure of the types of RAM, I do know that it is based upon bytes also. 2 Gigs is a common recommended requirement of modern games. You can have multiple sticks of RAM, but they must be of the same type.

Now these are all the internal parts I find important, and the only parts on my computer, though you can get much more. Such as sound-cards, which enable high performance sound, network cards, that increase network speed, and much more.

I do not know everything about computers and if you can improve upon the information here, please do so. I was looking for a picture of a full computer from the side, but I could not find one.

It doesn't have to be small, I wouldn't go small if this is your first computer.

It is the bare basics of what you need to run a computer, so in terms of building a computer, its what you start with. So its good for learning.

Building a computer yourself is a good way to pay extra, actually. If you have never built a computer before I would not suggest doing so unless you have changed parts on your computer yourself before and know the name of every part. But you can try.

edit: honestly I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you buy yourself all these parts and have no idea how to put it together. Maybe buy a barebones case, it comes with the motherboard, power supply, cpu, and sometimes a graphics card already.

I'm not against the idea of a blockland campaign, but not for a console, a free update, for the computer.
