Still overpriced. The best solution is to take a desktop, a car battery, and some glue.
Asus laptops are a tiny bit overpriced, yes, but nowhere near as much as Alienware or the like.
If you want good price/performance, go with something like a Lenovo. Just don't expect it to have the extreme quality and gamer orientated features of the others.
BTW check out some MSI laptops. They are a personal favorite.

Ethan, is my $1.5k build ok for games?
160 GB HDD, Recent Nvidia GPU, and intel bi-core processor.
herpa has it quoted.
I have no idea why it is so expensive TBH. The only decent thing is the GPU.
And by the way, that's a HD7970. From AMD, not nVidia.

I kinda want this richard to get out of my thread. He's just gonna end up giving people bad advice, and that's not really wanted here.

Anyway...

@Mulch: That is just because the driver is in beta mode. It's in testing. So, it shows you an installation report so you can see if everything installed properly and there were no issues. If there were (which there weren't, in your case) then it would give you an opportunity to see that and fix it, perhaps install an older, more stable driver.

Driver update and then see if it's in the new driver.

Still would like an answer on this.
Just windows being windows.
The standby issue could be resolved however, with a video card driver update.

Ethan, I need help. the thread wont help what kind of GPU I want.

I want a nvidia GPU
a good power supply
SDD
and a Moniter.
Budget?

By the way, where can I find some compressed air to clear out all this dust?
Maybe at any hardware shop (don't know what shops you have over there, but we have Mitre 10, Bunnings and Placemakers over here). And also gadget shops like Jaycar or whatever you guys have. :P

Ethan where can I learn more about computer components and compatibilities?
I learned by just taking an interest, watching reviews and unboxings etc (I suggest linustechtips, he's great and explains everything). Just get an understanding of the technology then you will find knowledge flows. :)

there's a bunch of suggested builds in the OP, take the one for $500 and replace the GPU with one that costs $50 more or do the same thing but with the RAM
Nah, the builds in OP are outdated.

Someone suggest me good build for a PC with good RAM, decent graphics card, and overall good for games/streaming media.
I'm willing to go up to $550. c:

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150521

Total: ~$552 with rebates.

Buy the CPU this week and it's cheaper! :D

Also, just putting this out there:

This is outrageously good for that price. Anyone in the market for a ~$200 video card would be insane not to get that. They put 2 generation old cards at really low prices :D

EDIT: Failed with the PSU. Added $15, but much better and now has 2 PCI-E connectors natively. :D

Okay I tried building something for Maze

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104238 (he already has a 2 gb stick)
Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148697
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162109

Keep in mind this is the first build I've tried making and I don't exactly know if it's all compatible. Focus is mostly on graphics card, but a quad core i5 doesn't hurt.
That's not compatible, sorry :|

Mouse: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104261

Total: ~$1492 after rebates.

Here are some options that I would definitely recommend if you can in fact stretch your budget:

CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181019
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161412

Get that CPU cooler instead of the stock one that comes with the CPU, for more overclocking potential and better overall temperatures, and get that GPU instead of the HD7950 for more performance. This will bump the price up to ~$1652 after rebates, but it would definitely be worth it.
