Trust me, try to avoid anything with an Atom processor.
Even a much lower speed AMD E-series will stomp all over it, both for gaming and multitasking.
It's all in the new bulldozer architecture.

I know it's a bit overpriced, but you wouldn't regret it if you could get it.

The Dell has a marginally better processor, but worse RAM and has a really stuffty GPU. Wouldn't run Sims 3.
I'd definitely go for the Gateway.
I'm not bringing in Dell's reputation either, like you asked.

Of COURSE you buy the brand, but Dell makes parts that don't break or wear out over the same time as many other brand names.  Sure, you can't replace them with anything that isn't Dell (Which... is why I seriously loving hate Dell) but the Alienware will run just as fast as when you first get it for several years without any slowdown.

...note, I'm not denying it's overpriced.  I offered it as a joke, seeing as it's the most expensive brand other than the Falcon.

Dell builds their computers really bad. Alienware especially are really unreliable. Just a really expensive paperweight 6 months down the line.
