Please don't buy a Dell. I don't want Off Topic littered with more topics about how someone just bought a $1500 paperweight.

Thats just seven out of probably millions of other dells out there. If you take good care of your computer it'll almost never fail.
I'm talking about completely bricked systems.
Theres many many more that have had issues.
Also, remember that they are designed to come out of the factory working, so of course there's lots of other Dells out there. It's just scary that so many fail.

Also, I don't think "good care" can make up for the frying of whatever was fried in OP.

You guessed correctly.
Were these the ones you tried to install?

If I were you, I'd totally wipe the driver install using the method I posted on your older thread, then install these again.

Ok thanks Ethan :)
However, considering your good budget, I'd definitely get a PSU upgrade anyway.
Consider this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125396

Or even that PSU and this:

I believe that's close to the best you can get with your system given your CPU may bottleneck a bit.
Just make sure they fit inside the case given etc.

Did he died?

And how many is that?
7 I think.
That's just with my own eyes, I have a friend who works at a computer shop who also reiterates never to buy a Dell.

Since the Inspiron 546 has 1 PCI-E 16x lane and a 300w PSU:

Fastest card that shouldn't require a better PSU.
That ones the cheapest and if it's XFX it most likely comes with a lifetime warranty.

Don't order it yet though, doing research into the quality of your PSU.

My solution was to clear out the Windows GAC (Global Assembly Cache). In Windows 7, you can browse directly to "C:\Windows\assembly". Sort by "Public Key Token", then delete everything with the Token "90ba9c70f846762e" (ATI's key). You'll obviously need Administrator privileges. No reboot needed either. Reinstalled CCC and it ran perfectly!

The GAC lets you share DLL's that are the same version number. If it's in the GAC, any installer will NOT install a new DLL - it'll use the one in the GAC. If the GAC DLL is corrupted, you're majorly SOL.

When I reinstalled the CCC, it took longer to install then it had before. Presumably, this was due to the installer copying all the correct DLL's to my hard drive. And no ATI DLL's have made it back into my GAC.

go nuts
The first one in 17 inch laptop customizer with an added HD6990 would be a great buy.

Start > Run > dxdiag
Post entire contents of first tab and display tab.

What is your current PSU?
What slots do you have on your motherboard?

First off, we need to know your current specifications.
Start > Run > dxdiag
Post entire contents of first tab and display tab.

Also, what wattage is your power supply?
What slot does your motherboard have?

Same goes for you.
Nope. I've seen lots of failed Dells over the years. I don't just assume.

Why would you want a 17.6 inch? Holy crap, He said a laptop, not a desktop.
:D
Gaming laptops are a bit different though.
