Stopped reading right there.

It's not, I already said that two posts above your post.  The USB ports work in Ubuntu and generally any other Linux distro.
Nope, you didn't say that already. You said you reinstalled Windows 7. Sort it out on your own if you're gonna be rude.

One more quick question, is it normal for it to shoot up to 85 when starting Blockland? I has only gotten to the main menu and started a server when I noticed. I was gonna play games and keep checking on it to get an idea of how hot it gets when playing. It went from 66 to 85 in, about less than 20 seconds. kinda odd
Test it at full load in the most resource taxing game you have.

Also, if you need me to take any measurements for your own reference, I would be ever glad to do so.
Well.
1. Windows 7 writes stuff to the registry. This deems a portable version of Windows 7 nearly impossible. There is a version, however, it's not that compatible, and is made by third party people so Microsoft doesn't really like you for doing it.

2. Dang. Oh well, still can get reasonable CPUs with that. I'd like to not have to upgrade mobo, but would you be willing to if you had to? Would maybe involve getting another Windows key. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

3. Yeah, easy. It would be incorporated into the update budget anyway BTW.

Maybe you should listen to it and not download random EXEs from websites like a loving idiot.

Could also be a hardware issue. I had a faulty A8N-VM CSM motherboard that had only 2 working USB ports. The other 2 at the back didn't work and neither did the front panel ones, out of an internal header.
First things first, try turning off your computer and unplugging it for at least 5 minutes. Then, take out the battery on the motherboard (it's a small flat one), then put it back in after a little while. Remember to ground yourself on either the case or the power supply housing while doing this.
This might fix it, report back if it doesn't.

Ok, no more false posts about how I want stuff, because this summer, I'm getting it.
I was able to convince my dad to let me buy electronic stuff (because he's like against it) over the summer, by earning about $1,600, and using about 500 of it on the computer, and save the rest for a "car".

Currently, I'm at $300 from last year, so if I can bribe my way up, I can at least for out $700 to upgrade. Yes, upgrade, because I cannot afford to build a rockin' PC piece by piece, because I'll break it! And I don't have any OS cd's.

And i'm not faking this either like I've done a couple times, because I've realized how stuff my current card is now. SO.

Currently, my specs are:

i3 dual core, clocked at 3.1~ (without an overclock, becuase I don't know how)
AMD Radeon HD 5450
300w Power Supply
4 gigs of ram
and windows 7 home premium
motherboard, I don't know.
I'm also running 2 monitors, one is a 1920x1080, and the other is 1024x768

So, what I'm belly aching to do, is get rid of my stuff BF3 for my xbox, and replace it with a shiny PC version. What I want (if possible), is to be able to run on just below ultra, at a minimum of maybe 45~ FPS. What I'd love to at least have at a minimum, is to run it on at least medium at 50~. Resolution at 1600x900 if I can window it.

Now, I know details are scarce, but I dont' have much time after this post to tell you all the measurements and stuff, so I can include it all tomorrow later.

The only info I can get, is that the "Board Dimension" (whatever that means) is:
168mm(W) x 72.87mm(H) x 25mm(D)

So, after this post, I'll be asleep, but I'll include any information I can in future posts TOMORROW!
Few things. To upgrade and not lose your Windows 7 activation, I believe you can upgrade everything apart from hard drive and motherboard. Every thing else can be swapped over correctly without fuss.
Also, what i3 is it exactly? I'm hoping it's a 1155 socket one (sandy bridge) so you can get a higher end SB chip. Great for gaming.
And, the case being small isn't just an issue, if you want a good gaming PC, Micro ATX is way too small. But don't worry, you can swap cases.

Good deal. I wouldn't do it unless I was sure that me or someone else could do it without breaking anything.
Even more some times. Like, some prebuilts are at least $300 to expensive, especially in the low-mid gaming range.

With a chance of corrupting your hard drive on instant shutdown.
With an even bigger chance of melting your CPU if it doesn't shut down.
Also, most overheats are during gaming, with not a lot of HDD activity happening, so a low chance of corruption.

Speedfan

Your GPU, CPU, PSU, motherboard (and I believe RAM, a mega expensive sound card, etc.) have temperature diodes on them.

They do. They don't come with software though. You're right.

How good is iBuypower? I've heard mixed opinions on it.
Best power for money in a prebuilt but yeah, some bad cases.

If I were you, I'd wait until the HD78XX series was released on Newegg and consider one of them.
Anyway, just make sure that your PC is powerful enough for the parts I have listed etc.

I'm looking to upgrade from my Radeon HD 6770, anyone got any recommendations? Under 200 if possible, tell me if not.
Also, my display driver keeps crashing randomly, anyone know why? I've tried updating and rolling the drivers back but it doesn't help. I haven't tried flashing the bios because I'll probably forget something up.
Wait for the HD7850, it should be within that price range.
What are the specs on the rest of your system?

There are sparks in hotpoints all the time when plugging things in. Not a huge fire hazard, over here at least.

I have a super high end stereo system and this still has better sound quality. Plus really, really epic for gaming.

My mother recently received a very large tax rebate and has decided to spend some of it on a new gaming PC for me. My budget is 1400$ and I was hoping to get a computer that could run a game like Skyrim on max settings with high definition texture packs and performance enhancers. Do you think you could help me out?
Blah, sorry for wait.

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146068
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139025
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072
CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103089
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148544
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150586

Total price: ~$1431 after rebates. This of course is only if you already have:
Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse
OS

Also, if you want a worse GPU for a SSD for SRT Technology, just say so and I'll adjust accordingly.

I am having issues with my desktop.
Soon after I switched my style to the Classic theme, all my desktop icons just vanished, and the only way I can access them is going into My Computer > Desktop > eeeehhh.

It's really strange.
Right click desktop > show desktop icons?

I was considering buying my iMac 21 off my old man for $800 but Tokthree suggested asking you guys if I could get something better for the same price
So anyway my current specs
3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 Dual core
4 gigs of ram
and a ATI Radeon HD 4670

lets just say my budget is $800 since thats what I was gonna buy my iMac for but if you can go lower please don't hesitate

So yeah, any suggestions?

forgot to mention that ill mostly be using the computer for game development/gaming
laptop because I like sitting outside while I work
