the New Roman Legion now have two types of warriors- those who use spears, and those who use swords
sword users generally try to get up-close and personal
spear users stay back and poke at enemies with their pointy spear sticks
some spear carriers as well as all of the sword carriers carry some form of torch for pillaging
in the case of the spear carriers, they mainly use it to throw flaming spears at boats and other things that are wooden
swords are made with iron, and sword users get heavier, iron plate armor
current roman swords are the Gladius and the Spatha, with the Spatha being longer and used more by the troops
gladius' are mainly used in gladiator battles in New Rome, and are also used by the Guardsmen occasionally.

more military get trained, there are now 2 types of military in rome- the Roman Legion, and the Guardsmen
guardsmen stand post on or near the walls and most are equipped with bows and arrows though the ones on the wall closest to the coast are equipped with spears, with torches nearby
the Legion are equipped more with spears and swords, and are generally used for invading as well as stopping larger threats
both military groups have standard lightweight armor which is/are more or less wooden vests
all ranks but the two bottom ranks of the Roman Legion get simple buckler shields
