Modification Help / Specialty Mining - Shades of Minecraft

Okay, it's another infinite mining mod. Big deal, right? Indeed. If it's not your cup of tea, or coffee if you'd prefer, no need to come in here and yell about it.

Specialty Mining
Working title.

So I am currently very sleep deprived, and I've actually started working on something! That doesn't happen, I don't work on things. Well, it does and I am now. The current features list is as follows:
  • Dwarf Fortress-esque layered ground

Ground is layered in one thick, person-height layer, followed by a thinner layer and repeating this pattern ad infinitum (on the Z axis).

  • Strata Layering

I don't remember if 'strata' is the word for this, but as you go to higher layers, you begin to dig into sand. As you go lower, you begin to dig into stone. Sand is weak, stone is strong and dirt is in the middle, but the ores also differ between layers.

  • Carving

Another steal from Dwarf Fortress, the ability to carve a block of the area into stairs, and to carve other shapes as well. No, there is no plans to accommodate those of you who are prone to fey moods.

  • Level & Pick system

As you mine, you gain experience. As you gain experience, you level up. However your potential is limited by how well-repaired your pick is.

  • Randomized Ore System

Rather than finding bricks of ores, you find small chunks of them inside other bricks.[/list]

Planned features:
  • Extended Ores

When you find ores, there will be a small chance for a pocket to be generated. This pocket basically gives several bricks in the surrounding area much higher-quality ores of that type, which are valuable for more than just selling.

  • Building System

Collecting stone allows you to build with stone - or dirt, if that's your thing. You can also trade with the 'Surface World' for Wood, which will be a very cheap alternative (there is a fairly low chance of extracting a usable chunk of stone). You also need to claim areas to build on them, and claimed areas cannot be mined out unless declaimed.

  • Trading System

As well as trading with the surface world for building materials, it will also have a demand system in place. Stone may be in demand and trading it could net you a pretty penny. Gems are generally always in demand if you can get sizeable ones.[/list]

As for you 'pix' people, it's rather simple as it resembles bricks on any other server! Fancy that. I'm currently using the RPG Pickaxe model (linked directly from the RPG Tools zip, not copied over) and I must credit Kalphiter's infinite mining mod as a reference. This isn't an edit of it, but it uses all the same techniques. Although I actually call .plant() so you can build inside mine :cookieMonster:

This is awesome, I've dug a nice little house into a cliff in infdev.

And pigs and sheep spawn INSIDE IT DURING THE NIGHT because of how well-lit it is :cookieMonster:

I also have two observation windows that look outside, and I'm going to dig a chamber close to the surface and glass the top of it, for a crop greenhouse. There's a forest up there, so I'll get more wood for burning for glass as I haven't found much coal cause I'm not ranging around enough, apparently.

Yeah, new trees are epic. They have branches n'stuff all over the place.

Also, iron and coal are rarer now in infdev I think. I used to find them all the time, now it took me like 20 minutes just to find some on a new world and it was two pitiful little pockets of each.

Make a full set of 'moddable' gun models like a modular gun with switchable parts in (choose a different stock/sight/body+barrel length/magazine/whatever else), and icons for each toggleable part, and then we could make a GUI and a full mod of it <3
(by using a single item and a set of images for it, and then projectiles switchable by the type of mag you insert and spawned dynamically via script instead of just defined)

You could even make a pistol/SMG one and a separate rifle one for a fullsize rifle.

Been doing that regularly for more than four years now, after a while it becomes the same habit as sleeping at night really. It's just loving hard to find a night job sometimes.

Stack placing, which you have, however allow for it to be placed above and below as well.

Filling properties of the bricks (Color, ColorFX, ShapeFX, Name, Item, etc and apply events) with masking by other properties (Color, ColorFX, ShapeFX, Datablock, Name, Item etc):
For instance, where the brick is a 2x2F, apply your current events to it. Or set all bricks with Guns mounted to them to the Water ShapeFX and remove the guns, then save the whole thing to a file.

You could use an event-like structure for the replacers, where Inputs are the properties you can mask by and Outputs are the properties you can change, allowing for multiple sequenced replacements in a single operation. A GUI would certainly be MUCH better for this than some ridiculous servercmds.

And obviously having methods for both saving to and loading from files, and placing duplicates in any position would be good. That is, duplicator with about a thousand new and better qualities.

It'd be cool to be able to host your own servers. Is any server firmware downloadable?

Also, how does the game deal with players using different combat systems? I think that it could get pretty weird if one player were using turnbased and another were using realtime and in the same area.

Heed failed to many eyes of the people, he made a Humvee with a grenade launcher at teh top of one, which, I think either he was blind for a few seconds because somebody threw a flash grenade or he was lazy and didn't bother reading THIS

Really, he even made a topic to say "I need an idea to make my Humvee different than Gravity Cat's" I honestly don't know why he made the Humvee in the first place, he also could of admitted G.C's better, it has damn camo and you can use any weapon as a turret gun with the hole on top. This is something that really disappointed me, so I support this Humvee.

If you actually read my post, you'll notice that I did not contradict myself anywhere. I can, however, see several places where I repeat myself. Maybe that's the word you were looking for?

Anyway, I never once implied I wasn't being disrespectful, so my repeated disrespectful or outright snarky remarks aren't really a contradiction and should be taken at face value. As a matter of fact, I think you're a pretentious, elitist twat. I wouldn't think this if you actually made any valid arguments, but most of what you post is just "I'm right, I'm better than you" and when asked how you're right or better, you respond simply that you are.

Go right ahead - prove me wrong. Point out where I contradict myself. Don't just state that I did, or that I'm a poison to society, or that you understand. Prove it if you can, and if you can't don't say it. I already said this once, and you simply responded by implying that I'm younger than I say I am.
