I knew Josh hommie started queens of the stoneage around 2000
and they are still going.
Plus he started a new band with David grohl(foo fighters/nirvana) and and John paul jones(bassist of led zepplin) called them crooked vultures.
Also I would nominate the white stripes, for being the most kickass 2 person band ever. These guys make alternative your favorite genre. Think seven nation army.
If we are talking about the 00's then I nominate Alice in chains for coolest comeback.

Torches that can burn out seem unfair, that would mean monsters could spawn in your base which would be unrealistic when there are no holes in the wall

Journal entry :
Today i collected a bunch of sand and finished the roof to my arbortorium
I also ran out of coal and had to go to the infested mines.
i started to dig trap pits in which enemys would fall down and be unable to get out, easy way to get dynamite supplies
I am also planning to make an underground lake or underground water fortress
