Games / Video Game Screenshot Dump Thread
« on: October 24, 2010, 07:08:25 PM »
Hey folks. This thread is for funny/interesting/amazing/beautiful screenshots you take in a game.

This is an awesome screenshot I took while playing STALKER Call of Pripyat. I just happened upon this building and it looked so damn photorealistic that I needed to take a picture of it. I loving love STALKER.

Alright men, the time to stow those razors is on the horizon. We are a week and two days away from the advent of No Shave November. I shaved this last Wednesday and forgeted up my mustache and needed to shave it off. In memory of my lost facial hair, I have decided to not shave for the remainder of October and get a running start into No Shave November.

Games / S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Ironman challenge.
« on: October 22, 2010, 10:28:02 PM »
Hey folks, I really like the STALKER series, and will be referring to Shadow of Chernobyl. If any of you have heard of Ironman challenges, then you can skip this introduction.

Ironman challenges are for diehard fans of games where the highest difficulty level isn't quite difficult enough. It is the highest difficulty level, along with several voluntary handicaps. It is done both to make the game more difficult, and in this situation, more realistic. Torchlight may be the most famous example of a game with an Ironman challenge, and damn is it hard. Anyway, here's a rough sketch of an Ironman challenge I came up with for STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Ironman challenge.

  • Weight limit lowered to 25kg: Suits do not affect carrying weight, you are not allowed to move if carrying more than 25Kkg
  • One primary, one sidearm, four grenades: Carrying limits for equipment.
  • No explosive weapons: The six barreled grenade launcher and RPG are disallowed. Grenades and mounted grenade launchers are OK.
  • Artifacts can only be used: Artifacts may not be sold.
  • Highest game allowed difficulties: Master difficulty, no displayed crosshair, no NPC identification/target identification, etc.
  • No side quests: No optional side quests are allowed. This includes the Arena. Nonessential story missions (i.e. helping the Dutyer in your first visit to Dark Valley) are allowed.
  • Vanilla SoC: This may be the hardest part of the challenge for some.

Anyone feeling up to it? Changes, suggestions, comments?

  • M.O.P.
  • Ray Charles
  • The Ink Spots
  • John Mayer

Okay, so I was looking at this monitor, and felt pretty good about it. However, I was telling my computer apps teacher about it and he alerted me to this solid looking deal. Which would you guys recommend?

So I have a slightly oldish LCD monitor, 4:3 at 1600x1200, 19" diagonal. The only problem is is that if I don't keep a fan on it (and sometimes when I do) I get, at varying times of using it, this band of discoloration (roughly an inch and a half thick in the middle of the screen) that ranges from an annoyance to I literally cannot discern what is behind it.

The only way to remedy this is to turn off my computer monitor for four-five minutes.

This was all well and good, until recently when it's been doing it more frequently, sooner, and the fan doesn't appear to be helping much.

SO I got my old CRT out. It looks passably good. I think it's about 17" diagonal and still has a resolution of 1600x1200. It doesn't look like stuff but it's big and could look better.

I was looking at this monitor, and it looks like a damn good deal. But I've been wanting to get a Zune HD for the longest time to replace the stuffty media player on my phone.

What would you guys suggest?

Games / THE SACRIFICE FFFFUUUU (L4D1)
« on: October 05, 2010, 09:56:50 PM »
I'm livid right now. The Sacrifice is loving impossible to beat on single player because the bots are handicapped and stand at the bottom of the bridge to get raped by the tanks. Not tonight, but some time do you guys want to jump on L4D1 and beat The Sacrifice?

Guys I have a confession to make...

I only know how to write TI BASIC; the simplest programming language known to man. After seeing The Social Network and feeling totally inadequate about my proficiency in manipulating computers, networks, websites, and general computer knowledge and I want to know where to start. C++ just seems like a damn huge thing to tackle, especially for a more or less hobby thing at this point. I really want to learn how to do crazy computer programming and web design stuff, but have no idea where to start.

Halp.

Shocker, it was an amazing movie. Just got back from it. It's literally mind blowing to think that as soon as I got done, one of the first things I thought about was what I was going to post on Facebook. It's shocking to think about how ingrained something becomes in your life that you don't even think about it until you see the true story of its creation and startup. I'd encourage anyone that has a Facebook to go see it (and even if you don't, do, because it was awesome.)
