No.
Why don't you want to make secret areas? Are you lazy?

@ Sirrus

I can barely run Arma II on the LOWEST settings to get above 30 fps which in my case is horrible optimized, Just Cause II is the same way just not as bad, and I guess you're sorta right about an rpg but it does have lots of rpg elements. The reason it's genre matters is because rpg's are generally have large maps which calls out lots of resources.
Honestly that's because your current GPU isn't all that great. Sure it'll PLAY recent games, but you really won't be killing anything. Here's some screenshots taken on my GTX260.

(on this one the game slows down while taking a screenshot. It's at 60FPS the whole time while playing)

Didn't have ARMA 2 at the time I took those screens. Sorry.

Also, about the RPGs, it really shouldn't matter if the game is set up right. The Capital Wasteland in Fallout 3 is loving huge and definitely open and I get an unwavering 60FPS in that game. STALKER is just set up in such a way that there are smaller levels that you have to load between.

Sirrus, he's actually got a point.
Well he could make it without sounding like a dumbass right wing nutjob. "WE NEED ARMYS TO PROTEKT US FROM TURRISTS AND MOOSLIMS AND THREATS TO OUR FAMILEE VALYOOS"

Stalker is an rpg, JC2 is horrible optimized for the computer, and ARMA 2 is for people who have a computer from the next century. That's why you can't run it on max settings.
Why does the genre matter? Also, you got all of those wrong.

STALKER is not an RPG. Perhaps if you consider detailed weapon stats and customization with a few player stats changed only by a few objects an RPG then sure, but it's really not an RPG at all. The reason I can't max it is it's a DX11 and the GTX260 is a DX10 graphics card. If you turn DX11 off and revert it to 10 it runs fine.

JC2 is one of the better optimized games I've played. I've had some 60-to-30 framerate drops, but if I turn off Fraps I honestly never notice any disruptions severe enough to interrupt play.

ARMA 2 is optimized like stuff. The fact that a game can look like this:

and run at barely playable framerates that fluctuate severely depending on the complexity of the scene is proof that it's poorly optimized.

The surest proof that a game is optimized terribly is if you can't get a consistent framerate while playing.

None of you get it, we loving NEED war in order to protect our country from terrorism, nut-job politicians and oil-shortages. Take off your stupid peace symbols and get a hair-cut, people aren't all happy sunshine who stuff out rainbows. If we want to make a political standpoint, we gotta bust some doors in and break some glass.

Oh please be a troll.

GTX260 is a solid card. It's what I have. I've only come across three games I can't max at 1600x1200: STALKER Call of Pripyat, JC2, and ARMA 2.

I have the PS3 version. :(
Ah, sucks for you.

Only difference is you need to move your hand up a few inches. And this is impressive that he made it himself, but this isn't a rare product. They sell a MIDI keyboard for around 100 dollars, but I'm not sure if it can put a different sound effect on the left side than the right side :\
Still, it's really amazing how this guy basically remade this thing in such a way that you could essentially emulate any 8bit music.

Serious memories from playing old GB games, GBC, and my childhood in general here.

Try searching "Grand Theft Auto IV" instead of GTAIV.

Also, what country do you live in?

Dkamm I think either your math or the article's math is a bit wonky. It costs (conservatively) $18.4m to build a high school. A cruise missile costs around $570,000.

Edit: I think the article means the price to 'set up' a school in Afghanistan, not the cost to build an entirely new school stateside.

Okay folks, let me give a brief recap of what occurred tonight and what this will be about moving forward.

I wouldn't say that tonight was a clusterforget, but it didn't go as smooth as it could've and I think should. I think there were four main problems that are easily solvable, and, in their solving, will make this a much more fun event for everyone.

  • Poor communication
  • Nobody knew who was from Blockland
  • Server/game issues
  • Lack of a "Party" mentality

I will cover each a little more in-depth

Communication Issues
As Duck said, very few people had mics. Whether this is for lack of dropped balls or a physical mic, it doesn't matter. There were people that were playing that didn't have mics or weren't using them. What's stated in the OP will not be changed; owning a mic isn't going to be a requirement of being in this little gaming circle, however, owning one is preferred and makes the experience more fun for everyone.

Nobody knew who was from Blockland
Except for a few people, it was unclear who was from Blockland and who was someone that wandered in from the server list. Unless we can completely fill a server and keep it full, we run the risk of because there's a sudden upshot in popularity of the server we were playing on of people seeing a slightly more full server on the server list and joining. The best and most obvious way to solve this is add some kind of identification, whether it be a tag in your name such as [BL], a mark in your avatar, or just changing your username to your BL username. Another less preferable alternative is to RSVP with the username that you use in that game and I'll send out an announcement before we start with the RSVP list and what everyone's going by.

Server/game issues
Of course, another solution to the previous problem would be to get a passworded server. Now, this is next to impossible to when hopping to and fro on other people's servers. I heard that some people can host TF2 servers, but one thing that I'm committed to is hosting a variety of events in a variety of different games. We could always do, perhaps, "TF2 Wednesdays" or something like that if someone could host a passworded dedi. Just a thought.

Lack of a "Party" mentality
A less serious issue, but at the end of the day, the reason I do this is for everyone to have a good time. Just try to have fun and not take yourself too seriously. For example, Duck was a real party pooper tonight. Just kidding duck, but this is an internet party so try to have fun.

I will also appoint officers at some point. Talk to me on Steam if you're interested.
