I found out that there is an old abandoned sawmill near where I live.

abandoned in the sense that no one works there, but it is still upkept in the case it needs to run again. I wonder if the security guards would let people in for photoing?
Only one way to find out.

Try not to get tazed.

Why such limited time?
Because my friend didn't get off work until 4 and I had to start working at 6.

and then he was 40 minutes late :c

Also how do you get into these buildings?
My friend's dad owns the building. The building is "boarded up" but with even the slightest effort one can easily break in. That's how all the bums get in!

Also, to Mega-Bear, again, I didn't have long to shoot the building. All the interior shots you see were taken within an hour and twenty minutes, and that includes the time spent dragging the 40 pound generator and ~100 feet of extension cord between floors with the work light. I also wanted to see and photograph as much as the building as possible, so if I had had more time I would've spent more time composing shots, and also would've switched from the 18-55 lens to the 50mm f/1.8 which would've produced a lot better looking shots with good looking bokeh like the plant one you liked and I would've found small interesting objects to photograph in creative ways instead of taking more architectural, wide angle shots like the majority of these are.

But even if I'd had more time, I probably would've ended up taking a lot more architectural shots, because I really really like architecture and architectural photography.

More pictures for you greedy whores.

thats the thing

creepy atmosphere always allows for more fun exploring the place
There was only about one time when I almost shat myself. That's probably because I was with two friends and one of them let me in and was familiar with the place.

Since you guys seem to like these pictures so much, here's some more.

Just as a side note, I don't know anything about what this building was once used for, I just know that now it's used largely by bums, graffiti artists, and satanists.

reminds me of penumbra

Honestly that might be the best compliment I've gotten from anyone so far, including people I know in real life, a couple of which are photographers.

Which shots did you edit?
All of the ones I release are edited. Most of the time, the shots don't come in off the camera looking bad, but some really quick work with saturation, lighting, and white balance gives it that professional and polished flare.

Unfortunately I only had an hour and twenty minutes to get as many interior shots as I could. As such, a lot of them are rushed, I didn't photograph a lot of the building, and I wished I could've done more fun stuff with the artificial lighting (I had a single 500w work light to light the completely dark areas) but alas I quickly ran out of time. I feel like I could have spent all day and there and still not gotten "enough" shots.

I recently got the chance to borrow a friend's DSLR and do a photoshoot of a local abandoned building. I took about 160 photos, edited 90, and here are 15 that I really liked I want to share with you all. Anyway, I'm really considering investing in my own DSLR (even a basic one costs around $850, so it's not a small investment) and getting into photography, so your feedback on these pictures would be awesome.
