I could never be a sergeant. Not a good leader, but I am an excellent henchman/soldier/builder

Some people have been coming to the server, but I'm going to put another invitation here before making my own topic.
the Invalid Minecraft server is completely open for people not in the clan. We've had a few new regulars, but we have the hardware capacity for many, many people. We've cleaned up the spawn area, and there are now three towns.

Again, 173.48.98.14

I'm usually on after 4:00 PM weekdays and 9:00 AM weekends if you want to contact an admin.

Actually that would be right on topic.
I didn't tell it at first because it's a LOOONG story. Also because it's a little hard to remember the details because it happened during my freshman year in high school. My memory isn't that good. So prepare for a bit of dramatization.

One of my technologically-inept classmates got a new computer a few years ago. back when Vista. Before class one day, me and some friends were joking about deleting System32 (because we're keeping it classy), and Vista being a virus, that sort of thing. That's when he walked in. It went a little bit like this (referring to him as Billy for anonimity):

Friend: I had this problem with something called Works a while ago. Have you guys heard about this?
Billy: Oh yeah, I know what it is. It's that text program thing.
Friend: Oh my god! You've actually used it? Do you know how DANGEROUS it is?
Billy: N-No... I just thought-
Friend: I heard about this guy who had his credit card stolen because he used it to write down his personal information.

Billy, at this point, was a little freaked out.

Another friend: I heard it also deleted all his documents.
Billy: well, how do you delete it?
Friend: Once it gets on, you can't delete it. The only way to remove it is to open up the hard drive and erase it by hand.

At this point, Billy leaves. Everything's quiet the next day, until we were approached by one of the teachers. "The principal needs to see you in his office." We looked at each other, and all decided without saying a word that it was a better idea not to play dumb. We stepped into the principal's office, and saw the big man (literally) sitting behind his desk. Billy was sitting in a chair next to the desk, his mother behind him. He was holding his computer and looking very upset.

"we need to talk about what you kids have been up to." The principal said. "I heard from Mrs. -Billy's mother- that you have been tampering with Billy's property."

We were surprised by this. I could understand if he was mad because we tricked a guy into sticking a pencil in his computer, so something had gone horribly wrong.

Friend: "what did we do?"
Principal: "I've been told that you have put a computer virus on poor Billy's computer here. This is completely unacceptable and you could get in some serious trouble."
Me: "How much trouble?"
Principal: "You could be suspended, and maybe even expelled."
Friend: "So, why did you call us in here?"
Principal: "I want to know what you have to say for yourself. "

The three of us explain that we're not sure what he's talking about.

Principal: Don't play stupid. I know that all three of you are good with computers and have been banned from using computers in the past for hacking." (yeah, this is actually true, but only for sharing movies and games over the school server)

Apparently, as the principal explained, Billy's mom found him trying to take apart his computer. He told her that he had a virus and needed to remove it. She freaked out when he told her that we told him, and she assumed we put the "virus" there. She called the principal and told him that we had broken billy's new computer by putting a virus on it.

We eventually talked our way down from suspension to yet another computers ban by explaining that Microsoft Works was a default program and had no security threat. The woman didn't believe us, and I don't think Billy did either, but at least the principal decided we were only being jerks and not threats to society.

Consider this a cautionary tale of why not to joke about Windows Vista being a virus. Not only might it be true, but someone is bound to flip the forget out and believe you.

Wrong thread there, chief

I guess you don't want to hear the story about how I had to explain to somebody that Microsoft Works wasn't a virus.

A quick story I originally posted in the Minecraft topic:

As some people know, I usually use a big custom gaming computer. I've had no problems with it ever since I rebuilt it recently.
I turned it on the other day and started playing some Minecraft. After a few minutes, the computer slows to a crawl. I open Avast and run a quick scan, it's almost done and 0 viruses reported when BAM. the computer turns off. I open it up, and turns out, the 500 GB laptop hard drive I use for Fraps had come out of its mount in the CD drive bay and decided it felt much more comfortable wedged in my CPU fan. Needless to say, it took a few minutes for the computer to cool enough for me to turn it on. Thankfully, it's an Intel CPU and a Western Digital hard drive, so both still work fine after the incident.
