Games / I got GTA4 and GFWL keeps crashing it
« on: March 25, 2011, 09:45:22 AM »
I know this is a problem a lot of people are having, but I tried everything I could find on the internet and It wouldn't stop.
Before I go any further, not Warez'd. Bought from Steam.

The game opens fine, waits a few seconds, goes into the second intro screen (just the words) then I see the gfwl pane start to appear, and then the game crashes.
I've looked it up, installed the newest GFWL, reinstalled .NET 3.5, installed Windows Live Essentials, and nothing worked. So instead of searching even deeper, I'm asking you guys, because hopefully some of you have had this problem and fixed it.

I guess the only conclusion for this is that Fx4 runs with varying degrees of success on different computers. I'm using it right now, very happy with it. It doesn't mess up any of my embedded flash bits or Youtube movies anymore, which Chrome did. I prefer it now, but I'm still getting used to everything under the hood. You can also make Fx4 as streamlined as Chrome with the toolbar editor. The only difference from my copy of Chrome and Firefox is that I have my bookmarks on the toolbar.

So you understand where I'm coming from: my desktop here has every major web browser installed. No reason, just to have. Checking compatibility with sites.

Metaphorical representation of the forums:

I'll leave that open to debate.

It seems that the ease of connecting to the server varies wildly between users and times. So, for everybody having a hard time connecting, I have something that sometimes works. First, open a singleplayer server. wait until you've spawned, and then exit the server. Then, try joining the server. This has worked for me twice, and I want to hear how it goes for other people.
EDIT: For those who haven't seen it, My application topic.

Gallery / 8-Bit's suburban apartment (AoB Application)

Just putting this here for everybody to see. Nothing spectacular, just an application. Intended as a small build, but I tested a few things out with it. I know the floor isn't detailed, but look at my bricks! They're great looking!

The front of the apartment. Note the amazing bricks on the bottom.

The mudroom-style area inside. There is a rack of some kind on the left and a window seat on the right.

The kitchen! There's something hanging from the ceiling, a stovetop and a fridge. Also a counter in the center.

The doors leading into the room in the back. One side leads to the stairs, and one door goes under them.

The bedroom/living room area. It's got an NES, PS3, a TV, bed, couch, and a computer in the back. The furniture is supposed to be minimalist. That's what's hip nowadays, right?

a much more flattering picture of the TV and PS3. My TV in real life looks like this.

The Bit-Tek PowerBrick computer. The light on the front scrolls through the colors. Somehow, both this and the last picture caught it while it was blue.

I had a picture of the bathroom, but the ghost brick was in the way. It's not an important room anyway.

So rate, keeping in mind how an apartment this size would look like in real life.

Off Topic / Re: Your school's computers

18 eMacs, four 2009 24" iMacs, two iMac G4s, three MacBooks, two iBooks, a couple old graphite PowerMacs, an old Dell OptiPlex that doesn't work, and an even older OptiPlex that has Ubuntu. Very mac-oriented.

For school I have a 2007 MacBook Pro and an Alienware M11x R1 (which is being repaired again, this time the lighting system got messed up and the bezel is misaligned). That's pretty much it. Most of the students use their own computers except the younger kids. I think I'm one of the only people in the school with Snow Leopard. Or an Alienware.

Jake should get multiple people to host. I know I can host a stable dedi on my desktop, that people can connect to more easily.

About halfway done with my app. :D

I was on the server last night. After the ten minutes trying to get in, it was fun until somebody saved, then it lagged for half a minute. Other than that, it was cool. I made a bunch of duplicatable items for everybody.
I probably should reapp though. BRB.
