I stand outside of my office, not wearing a gas mask or anything to protect me from the environment. The colony is a wreck. Buildings are still on fire, men lay dead in the middle of the streets.
"I'm not made for running a colony..." I say to myself, when my Second in Command appears.
"It's not made for everyone, sir. But I feel like we can do things better than we are doing now."
"But what can we do? Now we have help from the ISF, which will ease things up a bit, but besides that, our entire population is in rebellion."
"You could hold a ceremony, to honour those who have died. You could still make things better."
"You really think so?"
"Yes, sir. Also, you should probably have some sort of protection on you. We still dont know what is causing these mutations."
"Send out word that there will be an announcement here tomorrow. Invite everyone from the colony, even those who wish to rebel. Get what researchers we have left to examine the dead mutants. I plan to fix this colony."
I leave, and head back to my office with a sigh. It's the first time I have been outside in awhile, scared of whatever is causing these mutations. I should wear some protection, but I'm not. I begin to feel uneasy, its probably nothing.

And then I'll go downstairs and hear, y'know, classic rock or something and I realize I'm just so used to metal that I don't notice. :x
