Games / Chrono.gg's Game Hole (it's full)
« on: April 01, 2018, 11:54:40 AM »
https://www.chrono.gg/

How does it work? It is a mystery

Enter a Steam key and you'll receive one of the other Steam keys people "threw away" when Chrono did this last year. They might be good, they might be bad. They're probably really, really bad. There's even a chance they might not actually be valid, but you were never really going to play Bad Hotel, right? You can only do this once, and the key disappears if you reload the page. Time to sift through your Humble library.

I got There's Poop In My Soup.

Edit: You technically don't have to put a real Steam key in for the Hole to give you something in return, but would you purposely bring that karma upon yourself?

Games / Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY was $3 but not anymore
« on: July 10, 2017, 07:13:05 PM »
Just in case you have some pocket change left over from the Steam sale

Also comes with a 25% off coupon for Shadow of War, I guess they're trying to rope people in to the series before the next game comes out in October

It's only available for another 15 hours as of posting or until the keys run out, so get it now if you're interested

That being said, the game has a pretty great score all around but I'm seeing a lot of people saying it's boring, are they a vocal minority or what? I mean I'll probably get it anyway because it's 3 bucks but still

Games / Flinthook
« on: April 19, 2017, 02:58:34 AM »

Flinthook is a roguelite action-platformer from Tribute Games (Mercenary Kings, Wizorb) about grappling hooks, time manipulation, and space piracy

It's got all the popular elements; random level generation, weird shrines, gambling with your life, and a progression system similar to Rogue Legacy where you can improve the strength of future runs after you land on a spike ball one too many times

Customize your runs with perks, choose which ships to raid based on intel, hunt down collectible relics and lore, and repeatedly launch yourself into enemies like an idiot until you get a handle on the hook momentum physics

Check out the trailer to hear that sweet, sweet music

The game's out now for 15 bucks on Steam, XB1, and PS4 (it's good)

Games / Black Friday/Cyber Monday game deals
« on: November 25, 2016, 07:33:47 PM »
Kind of a late start but a lot of online deals are going to be going on through the weekend, Steam prices will probably go lower during the holiday sale but there are lots of things on amazon and other sites that are really good right now

So yeah, anyone found any particularly good deals today? I was looking through PCGamer's list and noticed the new Doom for like $18, so that's definitely a given for me

I was thinking about Titanfall 2 for $28 too but I'm not sure how good it is, any opinions?

Games / Swapdoodle - Swapnote returns
« on: November 17, 2016, 09:05:37 AM »
Long-time 3DS users might remember Swapnote, a service that let users share notes and drawings with friends, which was shut down a few years ago because people were using it for...devious purposes. It makes its return today, to some extent, on the eShop in the form of Swapdoodle. It's largely the same, you can draw/write in 2D/3D and attach in-game screenshots or stickers, though for some reason you can also pay for drawing lessons if you so choose. Everyone's favorite mascot, Nikki, is back too.

Games / FONV quest mods
« on: November 06, 2016, 03:02:47 PM »
Anyone have any quest mod suggestions for Fallout New Vegas? I've done all the standard quests so many times that I need some new stuff to break up monotony while I fiddle with weapon mods and other such things

I just beat Transcendence, which was pretty decent, and I've got New Vegas Bounties as well as A World Of Pain in progress, but I'm always looking for more

Games / BioShock 1 & 2 Remastered are free to owners of the originals (PC)
« on: September 15, 2016, 05:49:30 PM »
The remastered editions of BioShock 1 and 2 were added to Steam today for BioShock: The Collection, and you get a nice upgrade of whatever you already own for free, it should already be in your library

Just a heads up for people like me who have a huge list of categorized games on top of the default "Games" section and would never notice otherwise

Games / Ubi 30 (free Splinter Cell, soon to be Rayman Origins)
« on: August 10, 2016, 07:02:02 PM »
For Ubisoft's 30th anniversary, they've been giving away free copies of some of their games since June and will continue until the end of the year

It's too late to claim June's game Prince of Persia, but there's still a few days left to claim July's game Splinter Cell, and on the 17th you'll be able to get Rayman Origins for August

https://club.ubi.com/#!/en-US/ubi30

And because this post pops up every single time there's a free game on any platform other than Steam, let me save you the trouble: "Uplay? No thanks."

Games / Another Metroid 2 Remake v1.1? - She's dead, Jim
« on: August 06, 2016, 04:26:15 PM »
As you may have heard, it's Metroid's 30th birthday today! While Nintendo may have killed off the franchise years ago, the developers of AM2R have released the first full version of the game to celebrate.

If you've never heard of the project, AM2R is a fan-made remaster of Metroid II: Return of Samus that has been in development for a VERY long time. The original game has aged pretty poorly and lacks a lot of things that became welcomed staples of the series, so AM2R aims to bring it up to modern standards. Maps, status screens, better controls, even log entries that didn't become a thing until the Prime games have all been added to make it less "it's 1991 and this is the only game you own so we made it disgustingly hard to last you a long time" and "you'd better have a subscription to Nintendo Power or you'll be lost forever." It borrows some Metroid: Zero Mission assets, and adds a lot of its own visual and musical content as well. It even has native controller support!

You can visit the AM2R blog here.
Edit: It appears the post containing the official download, as well as the files themselves, have been removed. There has been no word from the developer about this, but all the download links show that they were taken down by DMCA notices from Nintendo. Unfortunately you'll have to seek it out elsewhere.

Edit 2: The developer has received an official DMCA takedown notice from Nintendo, and has therefore shut down development on the game. You can still find the preexisting copies floating around the internet, but there's a good chance this is all we'll be getting.

Games / A Hat In Time finally has a release date
« on: July 24, 2016, 12:44:22 PM »
Well, I guess "2017" isn't that much of a release date, but it's the first official word from the developers about when the game is coming out, 3 years after the Kickstarter

It's kinda weird that it was meant to be an homage to Banjo Kazooie but Yooka Laylee was both announced and will possibly be released before it even comes out, not that there's anything wrong with having two spiritual successors

Games / Bundle Stars is giving away free copies of Lovely Planet
« on: July 14, 2016, 12:14:26 PM »
100,000 copies up for grabs

The only downside is you have to give out your email address (they don't actually send you the newsletter unless you answer the confirmation email), but I'm sure you have a dummy one by now anyway

Games / Enter the Gungeon - Isaac meets Nuclear Throne
« on: April 04, 2016, 11:26:43 PM »

From the Steam page:

Quote
Enter the Gungeon is a bullet hell dungeon crawler following a band of misfits seeking to shoot, loot, dodge roll and table-flip their way to personal absolution by reaching the legendary Gungeon’s ultimate treasure: the gun that can kill the past. Select a hero [or team up in co-op] and battle your way to the bottom of the Gungeon by surviving a challenging and evolving series of floors filled with the dangerously adorable Gundead and fearsome Gungeon bosses armed to the teeth. Gather precious loot, discover hidden secrets, and chat with opportunistic merchants and shopkeepers to purchase powerful items to gain an edge.

The Gungeon: Enter the Gungeon – a constantly evolving bullet hell fortress that elegantly blends meticulously hand-designed rooms within a procedurally-generated labyrinth bent on destroying all that enter its walls. But beware – the Gungeon responds to even the most modest victory against its sentries and traps by raising the stakes and the challenges found within!

The Cult of the Gundead: The Gungeon isn’t just traps and chasms – calm your nerves and steady your aim as you face down the gun-totting Cult of the Gundead. These disciples of the gun will stop at nothing to put down the heroes in their tracks and employ any tactics necessary to defend their temple.

The Gungeoneers: Choose between one of several unlikely heroes, each burdened by a deep regret and in search of a way to change their past, no matter the cost. Filled with equal parts courage and desperation, these adventurers won’t hesitate to dive across flaming walls, roll through a wall of bullets, or take cover behind whatever is around to make it to their goal alive!

The Guns: Discover and unlock scores of uniquely fantastic guns to annihilate all that oppose you in the Gungeon – each carrying their own unique tactics and ammunition. Unleash everything from the tried and true medley of missiles, lasers, and cannonballs to the bizarrely effective volley of rainbows, fish, foam darts, and bees! Yep, bees.

Super loving hyped for this game, and it's out now! I first watched someone play an early copy about a month ago and I've been excited ever since. Seems like everyone I'm subbed to on YouTube is playing it right now but I don't want to spoil too much for myself. I'm sure if you want to see what the game is like, you can open up your subscription feed and find at least one person playing it.

Games / Hyper Light Drifter
« on: March 31, 2016, 04:32:20 PM »

Humble | $19.99 $17.99 | Steam

Heart Machine's debut title Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG about a Drifter, collector of forgotten knowledge, trying to find a cure for their bizarre sickness. Combat is intense, allowing you to combo multiple enemies with your sword, gun, and warp dash. Clear out rooms of enemies, evade deadly traps, and search for secrets. You can purchase upgrades using tokens from defeating enemies and finding numerous secret areas to improve your weapons and skills. The game shares a similar atmosphere with games like Anodyne and Fez (in fact sharing the same musician as the latter), and could be described as a "surreal Zelda". Hyper Light Drifter speaks almost exclusively in pictures, so a lot of things are up to you to figure out, including what you're capable of. If the art didn't already impress you, check out the links above and see it in beautiful motion.

(Note: If you have trouble using your controller, try switching to the beta build via Steam properties)
