Cubetractor is about a little blue robot named Endroi who wants to become the best Cubetractor there ever was. A Cubetractor is a robot that pulls various types of cubes towards them to collide into enemies or other cubes to create structures. The goal of the game is to destroy all of the enemies...but it isn't as easy as it sounds. You'll have to time your cube pulls to get your structures to build in the optimal locations, decide which order you'll need to destroy the enemies in, and figure out the right combination of structures (such as towers and barricades) to get the job done.

I've had a lot of fun with this game so far, and there's a demo on the Steam page if you want to try it out for yourself. Now might not be the wisest time to buy (I won it in a game of trivia) since the Summer Sale is probably coming up within the next month, though it just came out on Steam at the end of May so it might not end up getting lower. It's up to you!

Among The Sleep is a surreal horror game currently in development where you take the role of a 2-year-old child. After being put to bed by your mother, you awake suddenly in the middle of the night to find that something isn't quite right in your normally peaceful home.

Quote
What happens when you mix a child's perspective and imagination, with the surreal nature of dreams? Quite a lot, I guess, but we think one of those things is an interesting premise for a horror adventure.

The game is heavily based on atmosphere and exploration, and using the two year old child’s perspective. For example you’ll be able to see your own body at all times, and you will have to interact with the environment to find places to hide from dangers.

Games / Every time I quit Oblivion it refuses to stop running
« on: April 12, 2013, 08:46:44 PM »
I've been having trouble with Oblivion lately, whenever I'm done playing and quit, the game doesn't actually stop. Queue the "I can close gates of Oblivion but I can't close the game!" jokes. The game window closes, but Steam still shows me playing and the process is still running according to the task manager. This wouldn't really be a problem if it weren't for a few things: First, I can't kill Oblivion.exe. No matter how many times I choose to end the process it sticks around. Even quitting Steam (through ending the Steam process, as closing it normally tells me to close Oblivion) doesn't do anything. Second, it seems to still be using all the resources it requires to run. As a result, everything is slower and for whatever reason YouTube videos only have audio.

The only solution I've found is restarting my computer, but I'd prefer not do that every time I finish playing. I imagine my nostalgia trip won't last too much longer and it will cease to be an issue, but it would be nice to get this fixed.

I do have a few mods installed, but most of them are unofficial patches and I've seen the game close properly multiple times with them there before so I doubt that's the problem.

From the Kickstarter page...

Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic. It's a hot mashup of new and old that may remind you of Mega Man, Castlevania, or Dark Souls! You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this valley with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and save his lost beloved. He wields a ShovelBlade: a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!

But, between Shovel Knight and his beloved stands a cadre of villainous knights. These terrible foes, known as The Order of No Quarter, have been dispatched to prevent Shovel Knight from reaching the Enchantress, and will pursue their mission at any cost.

If you love games with perfect platforming, beautiful art, infectious music, crazy bosses, and real heart… Shovel Knight is for you! If you don’t, then what? How could you not be into that stuff? Keep reading, you’ll come around!

The Kickstarter page does a fantastic job explaining everything you need to know, so rather than me just copying and pasting everything from there, go see for yourself!

Games / Anodyne - "Listen, you are about to wake up..."
« on: April 06, 2013, 05:00:42 AM »

Purchase Anodyne and its soundtrack + 7 other games for $3.00
(Steam key included)

Purchase directly from Steam for $9.99
(Probably not the wise choice unless the deal above is gone)

Try the demo
(Same as the link on the official website, just making it easier to find)

Anodyne is an eerie adventure game that tells the story of a boy named Young who is brought to The Land by a man named Sage. He tells Young to save a fellow known as Briar from "the darkness", and sends him on his way. Young is watched by this mysterious Sage and his sarcastic statue as he goes along his quest, occasionally aided by Mitra and her bicycle, Wares.

The game plays very similarly to early Legend of Zelda titles, such as Link's Awakening and Oracle of Ages. There aren't many usable items to find, but no shortage of other collectibles, even after the game ends. Cards depicting the various characters and enemies are found in chests throughout the world and in dungeons and are used as keys in the form of gates that will only open if you have collected the necessary number of cards. You won't have to do a ton of backtracking or guesswork either: The Land is connected by dozens of portals via The Nexus, the tops of which light up if you've collected all the cards in that area. There are also a little over a dozen secrets to locate upon completing the game.

What Anodyne lacks in difficulty or story (or perhaps it's just too deep for me) it makes up for with music and atmosphere. I can't express how awesome the soundtrack is in this game. It's spooky when it needs to be, and peaceful when the game calls for it. Anodyne may seem like a cute and cheerful adventure game at a glance, but it gets very creepy and dark as you progress. Some areas that can only be accessed after completing the game are even stranger and more unsettling, with eerie messages and seemingly out-of-place scenery strewn about. As time goes on you'll undoubtedly be questioning what's going on around you...

I got around 5 hours of entertainment out of the game, and I could get more if I attempted the achievement to 100% the game in under 3 hours. After defeating the final boss you get the ability to swap any two tiles on the screen (granted you can walk to them), allowing you to go pretty much anywhere, even outside the map. This means you can richard around with the game at your leisure, and reach many weird areas that you can't get to any other way. Overall it was a great experience, and I wanted to share it with as many people as possible.

It must be a big week for game bundles! The Retro Groupee Bundle is pay-what-you-want with two tiers and a bonus system that means more games for you the more bundles are sold!

The current bonus goal is 4 of 5, unlocking when 5,000 bundles are sold:

And get this: There are even prizes for being the top donators! At least that's what it looks like to me, I'm not used to these Groupee guys. Scroll down below the payment box to see what's up.

All games work for Windows, with some working for iOS and Linux, too. They're all DRM-free, though some come with Steam/Desura keys as well. Check out the site by clicking on the logo or games list above for more information. You have until April 10th to make your purchase.

Groupee also has a chiptune music bundle going on simultaneously, so if you're in that retro mood be sure to check that out, too. It has the same tiers, bonus system, and prizes as the Retro Bundle, and you can listen to previews to get a feel for the type of music you're getting before you buy.

Games / The Humble Mobile Bundle (and Humble Weekly Sale: THQ Edition)
« on: March 31, 2013, 02:15:19 AM »

This time on Humble Bundle, more mobile games! Not as exciting, but noteworthy nonetheless.

Note: These games are Android only. They do not come with Windows/iOS/Linux versions like some previous Bundles.

Did you know Humble Bundle has weekly sales, too? Much like the bundles we all know and love, every week you can check back for super-cheap deals on single or small bundles of games with added bonuses for paying over the average or reaching a certain tier. If you're low on both cash and entertainment (or just want cheap games) make sure to keep an eye on these.

This week, you can get Darksiders and Red Faction: Armageddon for just a dollar. Pay more than the average and get Darksiders II and Red Faction: Guerrilla as well!

Here you can fight other players in a destructible arena with the abilities your customized creature gives you.

The game takes place in an computer world where you protect the Heartcore of your village against the likes of the Valk Empire and the dreaded Khoteps in 6 different levels with each 3 stages and a boss fight!

Current Features:

- 6 unique electro-worlds with boss fights.
- Over 128 parts to collect.
- Pumpin' Electro Soundtrack.
- Compete in the tournament for rare parts.

I bought the game earlier today and sunk a few hours into it in one sitting. It's super fun, and I recommend it to everyone, especially if you're a fan of Smash Bros.

Risk of Rain is a roguelike action-platformer. Choose a class with their own set of 4 abilities - from the gun-toting Commando to the melee-master Miner to the bomb-chucking Bandit - and explore a pixely world filled with monsters. In roguelike style, much like The Binding of Isaac or Spelunky, each run is different and death is permanent. Kill enemies to gain experience and gold and find special items to build up your character to take on the onslaughts of progressively harder enemies, including bosses. Your goal is to find the teleporter and activate it, causing it to charge up to ready itself for your escape but heavily increasing the spawnrate on monsters and summoning a boss.

The game is currently in development, but you can download the demo (the final version from the Alpha testing period) from the site above and try it out for yourself. The beta is rapidly growing, with more content being added often.

You can also check out Northernlion's "Let's Look At" if you need any convincing, but you should note that the video showcases a much older, alpha-stage version of the game.

Classes

Commando

The Commando is characterized by long range and mobility. Effective use of his tactical dive will grant increased survivability, while suppressive fire deals massive damage. FMJ can then be used to dispose of large mobs.

Rapid Fire: Shoot twice for 2x70% damage.

Full Metal Jacket: Shoot through enemies for 230% damage, knocking them back.

Tactical Dive: Roll forward a small distance. You cannot be hit while rolling.

Suppressive Fire: Fire rapidly, stunning and hitting nearby enemies for 480% damage total.

Miner

The Miner has short range but many dashes. In order to survive, you will have to balance both dashes and your extra jump to avoid enemy fire. Remember that crush does a lot of damage!

Crush: Smash enemies for 120% damage.

Drill Charge: Charge up for 2 seconds. On release, dash through enemies for up to 300% damage. You cannot be hit while dashing.

Backblast: Blast backwards a small distance for 120% damage, stunning all enemies. You cannot be hit while dashing.

To The Stars: Jump into the air, hitting enemies below for 180% damage total.

Bandit - Beta Only

The Bandit requires a quick finger to use his Blast. Use smokebomb to either run away or to stun many enemies at once, followed by a dynamite toss. Dealing a killing blow with lights out allows you to chain many skills together, allowing for maximum damage AND safety.

Blast: Fire a powerful slug for 170% damage.

Dynamite Toss: Toss an explosive in an arc for 230% damage.

Smokebomb: Turn invisible. After 3 seconds or after using another ability, surprise and stun enemies for 140% damage.

Lights Out: Take aim for a headshot, dealing 400% damage. If the ability kills an enemy, the Bandit's cooldowns are all reset to 0.

Naturally the screenshot gallery would be dead when I wanted to make a thread. Hopefully a few of my own shots and this (somewhat childish) trailer will suffice for now...I swear it's not as weaboo-y as it looks. This is, of course, assuming this thread doesn't die in a week like the last one, although I wouldn't be surprised. I'm not even sure how long I'll keep playing, but I got bored and like making huge threads.

Curvy, scantily-clad foreign girls! Got your attention? If so, you'll be happy to know that's something you'll find in this game. Well...maybe not the foreign part if you play on a server that speaks your native language, but you can pretend the dialog is in a nice French accent if you want to. I mean, you know, that's where this game is from anyway.

Yes, the game is actually out after years of development! Wakfu is an isometric turn-based tactical MMORPG under development by Ankama Studio, published in North America by Square Enix. The game has a paid subscription system, and while it can be played for free, there are limitations. It takes place in the same fantasy world as Dofus, 1000 years later.

In the time of Dofus, an ogre named Ogrest managed to get all six Dofus -- legendary dragon eggs brimming with power -- to attempt to seduce a girl he loved. However, she was interested only in the eggs, and Ogrest killed her in a fit of rage. Later realizing what he'd done, he climbed atop Mount Zinit and cried. His tears fell upon the World, flooding it and leaving it in ruins. This chaos continued for 1,000 years before the gods of this realm, known as The Twelve, used their power to breathe life back into it. This is where your story begins...

Wakfu is unique in that it has a dynamic ecosystem. The players affect the flora and fauna, meaning that your actions can cause an area to flourish...or fall into ruin. For example: A friend of mine claims to have destroyed an entire source of a crop in one of the cities, so no one could get it for weeks. "I was god", he said.

The system is somewhat complex, and is much better explained by the creators themselves, or by simply playing the game.

Classes
(I haven't played all of these so correct me if I'm wrong)

Each class has three sets of element-based spells that level up as they're used, as well as a a set of passive abilities and a set of class-oriented spells that must be advanced with spell points from gaining levels yourself. Like most RPGs, classes specialize in certain forms of combat, so you might find one class to be more favorable for your playstyle than another. Pick the one that sounds the most entertaining, or try them all!

CRA
The archers.
They specialize in fortifying their range and movement while hindering that of their enemies. They can also summon bomb-like beacons that are detonated by arrows.

ECAFLIP
The gamblers.
Their attacks are all based on luck: Spells that either heal or hurt, cause critical hits or critical failures, and give random bonuses or penalties. Are you feeling lucky?

ENIRPSA
The clerics.
Their primary goal is to keep their allies (and themselves) alive as well as provide plenty of buffs. They also have an arsenal of sapping spells, allowing them to steal health, movement points, and more from victims.

ENUTROF
The treasure hunters.
They specialize in getting items from enemies, whether that be through crafty spellwork or increased luck.

FECA
The protectors.
They have two major abilities: Shields and glyphs. Glyphs are magical areas that are placed on the ground that have various effects, primarily used to damage foes, and shields give them resistance to incoming damage of various types.

FOGGERNAUT
The saboteurs.
Foggernauts not only possess a damage type that is used only by them, but it has "no natural resistance" and targets affected by it take even more damage from consecutive hits. Their other attacks not only inflict damage on enemies but can be used on empty spaces to create rocks or flames to hinder them.

IOP
The close-combat warriors.
The kings and queens of up-close-and-personal, their spells can buff them up to make them incredibly strong and daze their foes to quickly close in on them. Their air-based spells allow them to do a long combo of attacks in one turn.

MASQUERAIDER
The acrobats.
More commonly referred to as "Masqs", spells from these characters often deal damage while pushing themselves or their enemies away, making them a sort of hit-and-run class. They can be very hard to hit.

OSAMODAS
The animal summoners.
They trap the souls of their victims in their pet Gobgob to be used as minions. While their arsenal contains plenty of damaging spells, their main form of attack is taking care of their summons while giving them buffs. An Osamodas can also fuse with their Gobgob to become a powerful dragon with extra spell effects.

PANDAWA
The drunken warriors.
Pandawas are a strange class, utilizing the effects of their special brews for damage and stat changes.

ROGUE
The demolitionists.
They specialize in firearms - which carry an array of special bullets - and bombs - which can be detonated normally for standard explosions or from afar for extra effects.

SACRIER
The berserkers.
The more they bleed, the stronger they get. Their naturally high health allows them to hurt themselves and take punishment from enemies to give them incredible buffs.

SADIDA
The voodoo summoners.
They summon dolls to do their bidding, giving them special abilities and buffs (and sometimes stealing their health). Sadidas can also control nature to help them.

SRAM
The assassins.
Srams can lay traps to lure their enemies into, or become invisible and sneak behind them for an increased-damage backstab. They are kings and queens of confusion.

XELOR
The time-manipulators.
Spells from these characters use time to their advantage. They can slow enemies down or move so quickly they appear to be teleporting. And even when their opponents are finally given the opportunity to attack, they might find themselves with no Action Points to do so!

Not sure what else should go in here, like I said the image gallery is broken on the website and all the other images from everywhere else are a bunch of early development screenshots and that wouldn't do it justice, so I'll just hold off on that for now

Hopefully some people are interested in it this time around, try it out for a little while and see what you think

Off Topic / So a meteorite landed in Russia not long ago
« on: February 15, 2013, 12:36:56 AM »
Quote from: USA Today
MOSCOW (AP) — Fragments of at least one meteorite fell in the Chelyabinsk region some 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) east of Moscow, causing flashes in the morning sky and sharp explosions, Russian officials said Friday.

The office of the governor of the regrussihere were no immediate confirmed figures or specific reports on damage.

Reports conflicted on the event: A spokeswoman for Russia's Emergency Ministry, Irina Rossius, told The Associated Press that there was a meteor shower, but another ministry spokeswoman, Elena Smirnikh, was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying it was a single meteorite.

The ministry said some fragments fell near the town of Satka, about 200 kilometers (120 miles) from the regional capital city of Chelyabinsk.
