Creativity / Minecraft Skins
« on: January 30, 2013, 01:15:02 AM »
I'm not too good with large-scale pixel art, but there's just something about Minecraft skins that I love. It's not always easy to get things looking right with such strict size restraints, but that's part of the fun (especially when it ends up looking god-awful).

So below are some of the skins I've made in the past, either for others or my own use. Feel free to post your own skins here too, and if you need help making skins or want to make a request this is a great place to ask. I personally use Paint.NET for the skin creation itself because of how well it handles pixel art and Minecraft Skin Viewer to view it on-model and for posing to make images such as those below.

This thread is for all Minecraft skins that you have made, regardless of how they're used or the mods required to see them. A skin refers to the texture wrapped on the player character.

Beaconbot

My current skin. Looks great in a variety of colors, but I think blue and red look the best.

Zombie Pirate

This was arrrrrequest.

Mystery Creature

Previous personal skin. Battle wounds and awesome pants included.

Spook

First skin I ever made for myself. Originally red, changed to blue later to get rid of some of the dark edgy genericness.

Elfman Strauss

Request based on the Fairy Tail character. It was impossible to do his immaculate hair justice.

Games / The Cave
« on: January 22, 2013, 09:59:22 PM »

The Cave is a new adventure game from Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion creator Ron Gilbert, and Double Fine Productions, the award-winning studio behind Psychonauts and Brütal Legend. Assemble your team of three from seven unlikely adventurers, each with their own unique personalities and stories, then descend into the mysterious depths...

The Cave is about 7 very different people with 7 very different abilities, each entering The Cave with their own goal in mind, from making an incredible scientific discovery to winning a stuffed bear for a special someone. You must choose a group of 3 to traverse most of The Cave before having to conquer each character's unique stage. If you want to learn more, I suggest checking out Northernlion's early review of the game.

You can buy The Cave for $15 USD on Steam (PC/Mac/Linux), Xbox Live, Playstation Network, and WiiU eShop

Off Topic / Having some crippling problems with YouTube
« on: January 13, 2013, 11:25:51 PM »
Videos are just suddenly not loading for me, viewing is interrupted at a random point in the video and displays the buffering screen but it never loads any further

Sometimes the video abruptly ends and says it was only as long as the segment it was able to load (a 10 minute video will run for 2 minutes and suddenly go to the end screen with the video time at 2:00/2:00), and occasionally the domain itself won't load at all

I've restarted my computer twice and router three times, used Chrome and Firefox (the latter of which has no add-ons), flushed the DNS cache, cleared my browser cache and cookies, made sure flash player is up-to-date, and disabled my firewall, but nothing has worked

I haven't made any changes to my computer or network today so I don't know what's going on

Off Topic / Dice Rings: Kickstarter page with preorder
« on: November 02, 2012, 09:31:47 PM »
I don't always take an interest in things I see on /r/shutupandtakemymoney, but these look pretty neat

they've got an already-funded kickstarter page with a pretty great video and almost $100,000 behind them, but if you give them at least $15 (+ shipping if you live outside the US/Canada) you can get one of the rings above (or Yes/No or RPS) in your size and any of the available colors (currently only black/silver but possibly blue or rose-gold if they get enough funding)

like always kickstarter isn't the most reliable source to get things but this looks legitimate, still you should only pitch in at your own risk and know they might not come through

hell I don't even play a game that requires dice but that r6 v2 looks pretty tantalizing

From weaver, known for RubyQuest, NanQuest, Boxdog, and his other various odd characters comes DiveQuest (such creative titles!)

My last thread about weaver's quests didn't do so hot, but maybe since this one is a more interesting read (to me at least) it'll get a better response.

DiveQuest is the story of Muschio Malto, the son of King Malto. King Malto was executed after his kingdom was taken from him by rebels, Muschio fled to avoid persecution. His story begins with the raid of his first dungeon and the perils he finds within. There's plenty of action, humor, and plot twisting in the first chapter alone, so before you dismiss DiveQuest as something you don't like I implore you to at least finish chapter 1. It's nothing like Homestuck where you have to spend several hours of your time just to get to the "good parts".

The chapters are in 4chan-style thread format, with 24 of them completed and the 25th active.

Chapters 1-24
Chapter 25

(Covering spoilers with [abbr] or [color=transparent] when talking about them ITT is greatly appreciated)

For those of you who aren't used to 4chan-styled posts, the posts by the author are for the most part the only posts with images attached. You should be able to scroll down and watch for them without worrying about missing anything. When in doubt, check the name section on the post. For official posts the name of the character should be written in green in the upper left of the box. The blue links (such as ">>4849463") are for context only, they do not advance the adventure. You can click them to view the post the character is referring to, but otherwise you can leave them alone and just keep reading. Many of them weren't archived correctly anyway.
