General Discussion / Blockland is currently $5 on Amazon (75% off)
« on: June 06, 2013, 10:03:34 AM »
It looks like Amazon's throwing a big celebration for their new indie game store and for it are discounting various indie games by up to 75%. Blockland appears to be in this list and is currently 75% ($5) on the Amazon store. I can't find anything stating how long the sale is for (though it looks like it's until June 10th), so I would nab some keys as fast as you can.

Link to Blockland's Amazon Page

EDIT:
Blockland is part of the Indie 10-Game Action Pack. Proceeds from this bundle go straight to the developers.

Blockland's picture also appears on the bottom of the main Indie Store page.

EDIT2:
Blockland is up there with a bunch of well known indie games. Why not see if we can't push Blockland's popularity at all?

Recommend the game on reddit. Since a lot of good indie games are on sale, I'm pretty sure this is going to gain a lot of traffic, especially on reddit. With a lot of people asking which games are good in the sale, now is a golden opportunity to get the game out there.

Write a good review for Blockland. More reviews we get here the more people are going to look at the game. For this price, even a quick look can lead to someone buying Blockland.

Modification Help / Callback for when a player runs out of energy?
« on: March 20, 2013, 12:18:56 AM »
Is there any callback for when a player runs out of energy/cannot jet anymore? I thought ::onTrigger() would do it but that's only called when the player released the jet key and not necessarily when the player runs out of energy and cannot jet anymore. I've used trace() and dump() and have found no results.

Okay, so I'm trying to recode one of my add-ons because it's broken with default add-ons. In the process, I decided to use Clockturn's LoopHandler resource. Anyways, my problem is that this function:

Modification Help / Explanation of SimSet/SimGroup/ScriptGroup.
« on: January 20, 2013, 12:47:21 AM »
I know what a ScriptObject does but I can't find anything that explains what SimSets, SimGroups, and what ScriptGroups are. This isn't necessarily for anything, I'm just curious as to what they are.

I seem to get different results when I return a parent than when I call the parent then return. What is the difference?

I'm trying to make it so my add-on can constantly display something in a player's bottom print without clearing the previous bottom print sent to the player. One way I was thinking about would be using something like this:
Code: [Select]
package examplePackage {
function commandToClient(%this,%function,%a,%b,%c,%d,%e,%f,%g,%h,%i,%j,%k,%l,%m,%n,%o) {
Parent::commandToClient(%this,%function,%a,%b,%c,%d,%e,%f,%g,%h,%i,%j,%k,%l,%m,%n,%o);
if(%function $= "BottomPrint") {
%this.currentBottomPrint = %a;
%this.currentBottomPrintTime = %b;
%this.currentBottomPrintBar = %c;
}
if(%function $= "ClearBottomPrint") {
%this.currentBottomPrint = "";
%this.currentBottomPrintTime = "";
%this.currentBottomPrintBar = "";
}
}
function exampleFunction(%client) {
if(%client.currentBottomPrint !$= "")
commandToClient(%client,'BottomPrint',%client.currentBottomPrint @ "\nExample",-1)
}
};
Note: I haven't actually tested the code and it clearly isn't perfected to what it should be.

Would this be the best (or a possible) way to do that? If not, is there a better (or possible) way to do it?

Off Topic / Living in Japan for a while; ask me stuff.
« on: November 25, 2012, 09:30:35 AM »
Knowing there are a few wee-a-boos here, it's fun talking to foreigners about Japan, and having nothing better to do, I thought it'd be fun to do a AMA type thing if anyone happens to be interested.

Background:
I'm half-Japanese, have come to Japan multiple times, know the language pretty well now, experienced and experiencing the culture, have family who suffered from the tsunami, seen and experienced the tsunami damage first hand, etc. I do happen to go to school here. I'm living in a town that's not as famous as Tokyo, but it isn't in the middle of nowhere. If any of you remember this video of the tsunami, I am currently living a few blocks away from where it was taken. I could actually walk over and take a picture of what it looks like now if I wanted to.

So, yeah. If any of you want to ask about culture, tsunami, anime, language, school, etc about Japan, I'll try and get them answered.

Games / Blockland Minecraft Server: Hunger Games
« on: August 19, 2011, 02:02:03 AM »
BLOCKLAND MINECRAFT HUNGER GAMES

Thought:

Alright, I happened to stumble upon an explanation of a game for Minecraft; the game being based of the Hunger Games. I thought this would be perfect for a Blockland community Minecraft server.

Explanation:

TL;DR: Players are placed in a 250x250 or 500x500 map and it's a free-for-all. There can be alliances and such though, you will never know when you will get backstabbed as the last person alive wins. If you die, you are out of the competition. Last person alive wins, prize is to be decided later. Cheating, this includes using F3, will result in an automatic disqualification.

Note: We will be following the rules above as best as we can. There may be a few minor alterations but that will be it. If there is a minor alteration, I will inform all the players via topic update.

Time:

Now, I am aiming to have this take place on August 20th, around 9:00 am PDT or 12:00 pm EDT.

Player List:

Games Keeper:
Daenth
Lilrobot [Games Keeper after death.]

Players [16]:
Lilrobot
Clutchy/Yogamoanyo
Xavit
Scream
Showdown [Spartan923]
Kohna14 [Rugged]
DuckInvaders [Unwritten Calendar]
Zappyspdo [Fire paw]
Sonyy [Sony]
masterockets
DrCoxLove [Davy]
JJA79 [JJA0]
DCB2011 [carolcat]
Howoriginal [kakashi11]
Cyborg_Nikki [Nikki]
Zuero
RingsofSaturnBL [Comatose]

Reward:

Currently, it appears as if TF2 items will be the prize.

Please add Daenth to your Steam friends list and submit your "bets" to him before the competition! The winner will win the $10 game and/or TF2 items (to make the stakes higher). If the player does not play TF2 or does not want the items, he can return all the items to the original owner (will be done by me) or he can give them to the player who lasted the second longest.

Options so far:

If we do the bet idea, everyone could put in $1 to $10 into a Paypal account, this being optional, but the winner would take all. People who donate and win would get 100% of the money. If you didn't donate, you get 50 to 75% of the money and the rest goes to the second longest lasting person.

The second idea, the winner would get $10 amount of Steam games from me.

another idea could be putting up some TF2 items

Sign Up:

To sign up, just post here and if you can make the time schedule or not. If a majority cannot make the time schedule then I will adjust it to fit as many players as possible.

If you want to join, sign up by 8:00 AM PDT!

Recommended Format:
Quote
Minecraft Name:

Can you make the time schedule?:

If not, about what time can you play?:

What would you choose for your reward?:

Would you be able to contribute toward your choice of reward?:

What game mode addition would you like? [If none, replay with "none" in this question]:

Other Info

We will be playing on a 500x500 (fairly small with this amount of players) with random King of the Hill moments. We will be playing with a hunger mod (text based with command to tell you how hungry you are), a local chat mod, a name hider mod, border mod, and other mods to help the game keeper (me) run the game. Contestants will be whitelisted to prevent other players from joining and the IP will be put on this topic.

Cheaters will be banned on sight. Cheating in any way is prohibited in this competition.

Anyway, there's a new project going out within the "group" Anonymous, Operation Facebook. They are claiming Facebook is selling our information to the governments and they store all of our information even after we delete our accounts. I don't know what to say about this. What about you guys?

Suggestions & Requests / Life RP
« on: July 31, 2011, 06:15:36 PM »
Well, we now have a Jail RP, Family RP, love RP, School RP, Space RP, Moon RP, snake RP, Mom RP, Dad RP, War RP, Master Chief RP, CoD RP, Blockland RP, Computer RP, Job RP, City RP, Roleplaying RP, Medieval RP, Knight RP, Stripper RP, Caveman RP, Forum RP, Family RP, Family RP, Family RP, Jail RP, Jail RP, Super Future Space Exploration Fun Fun Free Admin with Strippers RP, Wizard RP, Magic RP, Government RP, Lost RP, Wilderness RP, City RP, City RP, and last but not least Family RP.

Let's just make this easier on all of us and make a Life RP. I mean, all of these RPs are fragments of real-life, so just combine them to make the biggest RP and finish the job.

To be realistic, you need to spend 8760 hours (365 days) on the server to age, have a 1:1 scale of Earth on your server, a full working government, actually build a relationship (so realistic you could marry the person playing on the other end), realistic love, realistic days (weather, 24 hour days, seasons, etc), the most complex job system (including every branch of job and every type of job), realistic buildings, realistic economy (with the current economy at an all time low), realistic birth scene, realistic population (everyone would be forced to play Blockland to simulate the population), realistic dreams (even the creepy one, last for 6-12 hours), realistic thought simulations (procrastination, lovey time, happiness, sadness, etc), realistic aging system (after living for 60-120 years you die in the game and in real-life to provide the utmost experience), realistic food system, realistic needs system, realistic money system, realistic entertainment system (ability to play a game in this mod), and last but not least a family system. [Not everything is included as the list would be far too long.]

Because some people cannot RP correctly or put RP in their servers to get popularity, I also think we need a system to force the people and the host to RP. If they stray away from the path of RP, they shall be whipped by their mothers (signal sent via internet) in order for them to follow the path of RPs. This will reduce the number of trolls greatly and motivate players to RP correctly. If the player does not have a mother, they will be whipped via father, brother, lost aunt, second cousin, drunk uncle, or prostitute that is hiding in their bed.

I would personally like to see this as people cannot experience life themselves and want to experience it in game.

Games / Graphics vs. Aesthetics
« on: July 28, 2011, 11:55:56 PM »
I just saw this amazing video by The Escapist on what a true good-looking game is made from.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/3201-Graphics-vs-Aesthetics

Now if companies focused on this and gameplay, I personally think that we'd end up with a lot better games.
So, what do the forums think?
