Creativity / 1/144 Titanic model
« on: June 18, 2011, 01:06:09 AM »
I've started this a couple of years ago, but haven't worked on it in over a year. Everything was made completely from scratch using materials I bought from Lowe's and various internet sites. I'll start by posting older photos:

I'm currently starting deckhouses:

I'm not sure what branch yet. I'm not sure that I'll even do it yet, but the benefits are amazing...  and seem to outweigh the risks. I've never talked to anyone who joined and regretted it.

I dunno.

...from 14,000 feet. I've tried to do this four times, but it was always cancelled/postponed due to weather. It looks like it's finally happening. I'll get about a minute of free fall, reach a top speed of around 120 mph, and dangle from a parachute for about six minutes.

I

am

loving

stoked.

Help / New computer, no increased performance
« on: May 02, 2011, 06:26:19 PM »
I recently built a new PC with the following specs:

Intel Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 Cpu's)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
4096MB RAM
-
8x Anisotropic
8xQ AA

I get over 1,000 frames per second when nothing is loaded, but only 30fps when 55,000(ish) bricks are loaded. This is essentially the same performance I was getting with a Core 2 Duo (3.0GHz) with a 256mb GPU.

Also, I can easily max Crysis, so the GPU is not the problem. I've also tried multiple drivers. Does this have anything to do with OpenGL?

I ordered the i5 2500k barebones, now I need a video card.

I'm torn between the NVdia GTX 560 TI and the Ati 6950.

The 6950 can be flashed (BIOS) to the specs of a 6970 at the cost of the warranty. A 6970 is considerably faster than the 560 TI. Also, I've never had luck with ATI drivers in the past.

I really don't know what to do. I know that EVGA has a lifetime warranty that supports overclocking, so the 560 looks nice in that aspect, but it won't give me the performance of the 6950/70.

Also, if someone can figure out how to get a GTX 570 for under $300, I'll do that.

Here's a performance comparison example:

Quick! What's your opinion on Intel Core i5-750 8M Cache, 2.66 GHz?

I ended up buying a barebones with an i5 2500k (3.3GHz) and an MSI 560 TI twin frozr II OC.

I dropped my HD2 into a shopping cart the other day. Yeah...

I'm not eligible for an upgrade, but since I'm extremely grandfathered with T-Mobile (14 years), I was able to pull some strings and get an HD7 for $200.

I've had Windows Phone 7 on my HD2 for a couple of months and completely fell in love with the OS. I never felt the urge to return to Android... not to mention I never had a particular Android ROM on my phone for more than three days.

Anyway, it should be here in a week. Feelsgoodman.xap.

Also, I realize how stuffty that photo is. I didn't take it.

1960's handmade stereo cabinet.

It made the exact sound that Yoshi made when you mounted him.

It's running from internal memory with all services unlocked. I actually prefer its interface and stability to that of Android. It's amazing that this phone (which is not meant to run this operating system... or even Android) is actually running WP7 faster than native WP7 phones.

Also... it's not technically legal. In order to unlock the live services, I had to call Microsoft and ask for an activation key for my "HD7."

Here's a video.

The first one ended up being too big. I also found a new file which has twice the detail (also twice the work) and a more accurate shape. I'll keep this updated regularly.

Here's the original at this point:

Creativity / I cut my arm...
« on: December 27, 2010, 04:06:18 PM »
With an x-acto knife. I dropped it and tried to catch it. I was too quick and the knife became pinned between my side and forearm... the blade going into my forearm. It's about a half inch deep and a centimeter wide. This happened to me Saturday night.

It's being held together with "butterfly" strips, but it's still bleeding a bit. Would it be okay to work tonight? I stock and straighten items at Dollar General. I called in yesterday because it was bleeding quite a bit, but I was told (by friends) I should stay out today also.

I don't know what to do...

Edit: I honestly didn't realize I posted this in creativity. Can someone move it?
