Clan Discussion / Let's finish Titanic.
« on: March 08, 2009, 12:06:51 AM »

Updates:
-If you don't have a great building ability, but you know a lot about Titanic, I'll still be able to use your help
-If you are able to copy and mirror complicated areas, you'll be useful. Just let me know and I'll figure something out.

As most of you know by now, I'm working on a full scale Titanic replica in Blockland. This is quite an overwhelming task, and many people offer (and beg) to help with it. The problem is that I can't differentiate between a possible asset and a new player wanting some "fame." In the past few months, a few shining players have proven to be a lot of help and It would be nice to have more players like them, so I decided to form a "clan" to work on and hopefully complete this ship.

Of course, I can't let just anyone join. Some players would cause more problems than they would solve. This calls for an application proccess. The best solution for this would be to creat a small ship using scarce information scattered about the net, as I have done. I will not judge as a whole, but as what you do best. For example, If you do great interior work, but interior work is all you're good at, that's what you'll specialize in on the ship.

As for this application process, I have selected a vessel(more information below) for you to build. You'll need to find a way to make it scale and keep everything proportional. When you have completed the vessel, post a screenshot along with the save file. I will evaluate it and contact you as soon as possible. This isn't for everyone, and the application requirements are steep. If you don't feel you'll be chosen, don't wast time building the ship. Some things I'll look for: Hull form, brick usage, creativity, accuracy, interior quiality, and some things I can't remember right now.

This isn't a normal clan as of now, but depending on what happens, it could become one. If this (somehow) is completed, we might move on to another vessel.

The ship:
Luna (tugboat). If you only want to build a cetain part of the ship, that's fine. I'll judge individual portions.

Good luck!

Off Topic / I have a small guitar amp issue (half-stack)
« on: March 01, 2009, 11:02:49 AM »
I recently got a Peavey Valveking 100 amp head. This is an all tube amp and registers 100 watts or 16 ohms (But it has a switch for 4, 8, or 16 ohms). Since I don't have a cabinet, I plugged it into a 200 watt Randall combo amp. The randall speakers max out at 4 ohms (I had the switch on 4 as well), so I have to turn the head's volume up around 7 or 8 to match a drumset. This isn't a problem when I'm using distortion, but the tubes start to distort around 6 when it's clean.

As for the point of this, will buying a 16 ohm cabinet solve this problem? This might be common sense, but I'm still learning about halfstacks. I expect powerful speakers to allow me to reach the same volume with the master turned down, but some confirmation would help.

Well...  I did this today in class:

...the thing is, I did it completely from memory, so it's not totally accurate. Either way, I think it's decent.

Also, it's a work-in-progress.

This will probably stick out like a sore thumb right now, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Just let it go and see if it does any good.

I mentioned to him that I needed some material for modeling a guitar. He drew me an amazing picture that I feel compelled to share.

Edit:

Here is the current state of my version. I hope it doesn't disrespect the original in any way.

Give it a damn rest. If you find something you like, good for you. That doesn't mean you have to start a new thread every time you find a video of a fat guy with mutton-chops doing impressions of Oprah Winfrey while skateboarding down a pyramid. It might be funny (to you at least), but it does not justify a new thread. Period.

Seriously, why drink anything else? Do you know the sound a carbonated drink makes when you pop it open? That stuff can't be good for your innards.

Drink water.

This is very simple, but it's my first time in this dimension. It took about an hour and was made in Autodesk Inventor.

After some pretty hilarious results in Partizan's thread, I decided to see what comes of this. You know the drill.

Off Topic / Les Paul intonation.

I've been setting up my Paul for a gig. The 12th fret intonation is absolutely spot-on, but the lower frets are still sharp. This makes no sence to me.

What's going on?
