Oh....no...

I just said less guns not no guns. Make it harder to get them, that sort of thing.
It's pretty piss hard to get guns in some states already. Nobody is interested in the law going overboard with restrictions.
and I do. I can use my pellet gun to kill things too. The primary purpose of my particular pellet gun is, as advertised, to kill animals, up to the size of a fox. That's approx. the same power as a .22 LR; I wouldn't doubt that a head shot would be lethal to a human.
According to the news, the rifles used in the shooting were legally "assault weapons." The guns were bought legally but then modified in such a way that they, according to california law, have been "manufactured" to fit the description of an "assault weapon"

"assault weapons" are banned in california

the "assault weapon" ban did not stop the criminals from using an "assault weapon" to murder
Also "assault weapon" is a misnomer in a lot of situations and a set of fear words that left and right wing media use to confuse and scare people.
Perhaps there could be a system developed for what kind of guns people can have.
You start with only being allowed to have 1 or 2 kinds of guns, and if you go a long enough time with no gun-related criminal reports, you can own more.
what a stuffty and abuseable idea.

Lmao calm down
I literally only said that guns are designed to kill
Not exclusively. Cowboy action shooting and sport fall into these categories. Skeet shooting and light powder loads for target plinking is an actual pasttime (big shocker).

Guns can come into other applications too.

Instead of putting all the focus on guns, let's address the societal and psychological issues that result in shootings.
I don't need any of your damn common sense in this thread boy!

sorry, i meant fully automatic lol
Great news, they're already near impossible for civilians to really get their hands on without a class III FFL and a stuff ton of paperwork. I don't think we need fully automatic weapons either. Though i do admit i occasionally indulge in a bump-fire stock every so often, which is already a work around to the whole full auto fiasco.
So I'm not entitled to my MG42? :c
I don't really see how you managed to get an intact one into the states without customs ripping it apart and disabling its action. But i'm assuming you're joking.

Is it bad that I'm getting a growing special interest for nagas? It must have something to do with me and BDSM.
the serpent deities?

less violent weapons, less ways to defend yourself from people who will get violent weapons anyway

I do not believe, however, that citizens need access to automatic weapons. Those firearms should be exclusive to the military.
You're going to have to expand on "automatic". You have fully automatic weapons then you have semi-auto weapons. Semi auto allows you to only fire as fast as you can pull your trigger. I'm not for banning semi-automatic weapons, i think thats dumb.

it's actually interesting to see people's different thoughts on this. granted, most people on the forum live in the US, so there will be more pro-gun forumers than anti-gun. it's cool seeing points being brought up that i haven't thought of before
At least you're being open minded about it. A lot of people out of country can really only see through a set of bias-goggles. You have to remember where and when these things take place at and what country you're studying the issue in.

Unfortunately there's no way of telling what's going on inside somebody's head. They could be planning the next (real) 9/11 and we wouldn't even know it.
and so logically anti-gun advocates would eventually lean to the ban-all method or other extreme measures.

I was thinking stuff like the psych tests they do before they let you join the police.
As one under training, even I know what a failure the psych tests are. Police shootings are a good indication of that.
not disagreeing with your overall point, but i think that all this police brutality is enough proof that psych tests dont really work in weeding out crazies

beat me too it lol

As long as the people performing the background checks don't have any weird biases or anything, ex. they might not give a gun to somebody because they’re a furry.
That would be such bullstuff. But in the end law is written by bias

I'm not labeling proper gun owners with this, i'm labeling people who shouldn't have access to guns because they'd shoot anything that moves towards them.
You know very well that its hardly easy at all to pick those people out. If you want to limit access so bad then you'd have to look into blanket laws, a lot of gun owners are not going to be willing to give up their semi-automatic firearms because of some wackjob doing a shooting.

You may think it's a good idea right now, but you'll see for yourselves when every paranoid/insane person in america has a gun.
It's sooo easy to label proper gun-owners as paranoid/insane? isn't it? You're incredibly naive.

I don't get it when people say that when the government turns evil, the citizens can overthrow it.

I mean the government still has tanks, and missiles, and nukes, and jets, and bombs, an ass load of bases, and the most powerful weapons on Earth
And a military made up of the citizens who operate such equipment who's loyalties will be challenged when the time comes. In the event of things going sour the country is going to split in half like it did in the Civil War. The government is not some all-knowing entity of a single mind that controls all individuals as a whole you know. It's very unlikely that that will happen any time soon. What I want to know is why people think that such a scenario would be over in a matter of minutes. The government has to fear the people, not the other way around.

He'd just post pictures of tanks.
Actually in most threads with gun debates in them he brings some good knowledge to the table. It is unfortunate that he isn't here right now. But that's what you get for harassing the fallout 4 thread relentlessly.

I can tell you've never shot black powder weapons before lol. As an owner of several each and everyone of those guns shoot will still very lethal accuracy. Also you haven't heard of a Remington 1858 before have you? Quick change cylinder and can fire six shots. Just as lethal as a semi auto.

"Imagine trying to shoot up a school." ?

What do you think thats what pro-grun advocates think about all day? For a lot of us shooting is a sport. Also snip your images you moron, they're stretching the thread. It was also pointed out in previous posts that the right to bear arms by a lot is considered just having people past or present armed in general, for protection against foreign invaders and also protection against our own government should they decide to go evil on our country. If you even had the attention span to notice that.

Also you forgot about the Minie-ball ammunition which appeared very soon after the revolution. Accuracy is no longer an issue with black powder weapons. I don't feel like i can credit you with having much knowledge about guns anyhow.
