he doesnt have a good tv that will run hdmi then he can see if his monitor runs hdmi
it doesnt have to be a tv to run a game console

He already said he doesn't want to use his dad's monitor or the tiny ass TV in the camper.

Those are not signal converters. There is a reason they are cheap.

I looked at some other solutions too and they will still run into the $100+ range. It would be better to still get a new TV that you can use for other things besides hooking the PS4 up to.

Also VGA and composite are two different types of signal format.

On the time span issue it was just a general number. HDMI has been on TVs for awhile now. I have a TV made in 2004 with HDMI input.

Excuse me? My Dad got our current TV when I was 8, and that doesn't have an HDMI cord, so go away and help the problem.

If you don't want to buy a new TV then you need to buy something like this to strip the copy protection off the HDMI signal and convert to an brown townog signal: http://www.hdfury.com/shop/

You can buy a new TV for less than the PS4 or that device. There is no other solution.

Who the heck likes Sonic Adventure 2 over Generations?

The story is stuff and honestly the gameplay hasn't aged well. I booted it up last year on my gamecube for a nostalgia trip and just thought to myself, "Didn't this game used to be fun?"
