Cracking passwords involves going through every possible password, perhaps starting at "0" like this one.
This calculator is very faulty, for example if you add another character it multiplies the crack time by 10, which basically means each character slot has 100 possibilities. Not sure what 100 characters it chose in addition to the 36 alphanumeric, probably 100 is just a number they made up.
Type in "1" and notice how it will take 1/4,000,000,000 seconds to crack it, which is inversely the same as the "Calculations Per Second" option you can chose. This does not count for authentication overhead or even OS overhead. For example, it may take the OS 100 CPU cycles just for the program to iterate to the next password. There still has to be checking: for example for your forum password to be cracked, it can be assumed there is a 300ms+ delay just to figure out if the password worked or not. On top of that, there's actual login attempt blocking that even the BL forum has.
This tool really isn't practical.
