Games / please recommend pc games

i have fallen into a dry spell
new pc, yet not many games to play on them

also if you see anything on my library that i dont play often, recommend that, since i have like 30 games i've never installed

Off Topic / Why hasn't a better animated image format been made yet?

From my limited understanding of gifs and video, video will recycle the color of a pixel if the frame before it had a similar color at that location. But gifs don't do that, so they load slower. And what's different about animated .pngs?

If I'm wrong about anything, please educate me. :P

Off Topic / computer hardware vs web/mobile app design?

i'm picking my classes for next year and i'm stuck between two classes. i was hoping you guys could weigh in.

the computer hardware class is basically learning how computers "think" and learning how hardware works. so i'm guessing it's learning about memory and logic. it doesn't interest me that much but my cs teacher implied that it would give me an edge.

the other class is what the name implies. web design, javascript, animation, actionscript, "app inventor"? (for mobile)

there's also database design, but that looks boring. i'm pretty torn.

oh, there's also art 1, which is required to graduate. it looks ok.

Off Topic / Linux help?

I've been meaning to try Linux and this new TF2 promo was a good motivator so I decided to install Ubuntu 12.04

Unfortunately I have no idea what I'm doing
I downloaded the 12.04 amd64 .iso and downloaded this tool.
I used the tool on my flash drive and restarted my computer, with the flash drive in. Nothing happened. So I ran the .exe that the tool put in my flash drive.
It ran an installer, I followed the instructions, rebooted, and it booted to ubuntu. From there I tried to install steam and got an error that was something like "libcd:i386". So I rebooted, mashed f9-f12, and it booted into windows this time.

I don't know what I did, but I have two questions:
1. how can i manage my partitions?
2. why can't i install steam?

i'll be back in 5 and try to install again, and get the exact error.

really one second it's 15mbps and next it's as low as 2.

It's a comcast economy plan, and I'm using a wireless USB dongle as opposed to a wireless PCI-e card

Off Topic / Android Rooting

I was using this tool to root my phone and it offered to install/update some drivers I was missing to complete the process. I hit ok. It crashed halfway through so it deleted whatever drivers I had before and now I can't access my phone's internal sd card. When I went into devices and printers, the phone appeared, and it asked me to troubleshoot my computer, the problem being it was missing the Android Composite ADB interface driver. When I tried to troubleshoot it it was inconclusive.

Where do I find the drivers for this thing?
EDIT: When I try to run SuperOneClick again, it asks if I want to install drivers, I hit ok, then it says "No more data is available" and crashes

-durable
-has a mic
-comfortable

I'm not an audiophile or anything. I just want the best for what I'm paying for.

DOUBLE EDIT: What are some indicators of good sound quality that I could look for?
TRIPLE EDIT COMBO: How are these?

During Christmas, I got a lot of cash. Now one of my earbuds is asploding. So please recommend me some earbuds/headphones under $50. I'm not an audiophile or anything, I just want them to last a long time, without sounding like absolute garbage. I'd prefer earbuds, or you could recommend earbuds + headphones that are less than $50 combined.

hi guys. i want to write a really dark dialogue poem for english class. it doesn't have to be long, 10 lines is enough.
throw me some ideas. i really liked this poem, it's about the black rights movement and a kid dies. its cool.

currently my only ideas are to have somebody slowly realize something, then tragedy.

Off Topic / Android problems

my phone keeps resetting at random times. (not by pressing buttons, it's done this while laying flat plenty before)
i've heard it may be firmware problems, and that I should have factory resetted before switching to Android 4.
what do you guys think? should i factory reset now? would it change anything?
also, does anyone know how i should backup my apps/pictures/contacts? what's a good app for this?
and finally, is the sd card mentioned in my main directory an external sd card?
