yes but that's because the people who hosted it were idiots and the blame cannot be placed on the released-ness of the gamemode

i know you didn't make a connection

and such
actually, it's entirely because of the releasedness. if it were private, the creator could have kept interest up. by making it public, having people mess up hosting it was inevitable. it is one of those mods that works better private.

oh ok

like that knock-off of the rising lava thang
and why would they thrive better
usually it's the community who manages to mess up a gamemode
like mafia madness

and your name is $trinick
uhhhhhhh
you just answered your own question. mafia madness sort of flopped after its release because people wouldn't host it correctly. several people contested that it was better when it was privately hosted by the mod maker.

i never made a connection between his name and torquescript

o no

but if recipes aren't meant to be given out,
why does rtb exist if add-ons aren't meant to be given out?

recipes can be given out. that's fine. but there's a benefit to keeping it for yourself, and it's not immoral to do so. also someone could replicate your "recipe" pretty well if they knew the featureset.

Again, you're talking about something different. If Zapk wants to keep Rising Lava to himself to keep his server populated, then he's perfectly entitled. After all, it is his server. (I still found it loving hilarious when someone remade it and released it)

I'm talking about people who make stuff actually useful stuff and then make a topic about and then literally just not post in the topic again. Nobody cares about server specific game modes, they're all equally boring.
Obviously not, did you read what came after that?
Well last time I checked I didn't have to be given permission to state my opinion.
I'm a handicap because I hate coders? I'm a handicap because I have an opinion that isn't yours? Lol. This is the forgetin' reason this topic exists.
i agree that kind of stuff is pretty mean. but those are rare cases.

what are you trying to prove
yep pretty much
yeah but cooks live on their jobs
thats why they keep their recipe secret

people don't live on server hosting and add-on making
let's say the chef has lots of money. he wants more money.
there. now it's not a necessity.

Exactly. Zapk is a good example of a closed source coder. His last two mods, Rising Lava and Prop Hunt, were very fun, but if there were more than 5 servers hosting it, they'd have to share an already small playerbase (of people who play these gamemodes, not blocklanders) and they'd each have a max of 8 or 9 players most likely. also, it is not a coder's duty to release their mod. for example, let's say bushido makes a really popular gamemode. if he gives it to the public, it'll be very easy to play, and could bore everybody after a little while. but if he hosts it in small bursts, perhaps a few hours per day, he can keep people interested, and give himself time to code new features to prevent boredom.

I wasn't thinking about fickle 12 year olds while constructing my post but alright, I guess some people are jealous of marble man's ability to make a snowball catapult. I'm not. Most people aren't. Script kiddy is a slang term that's not defined in a dictionary so I'm not sure why you're getting brown town about it. I guess I should've used "not very good at coding coder"

The keyword was being "stupid stuff", as in, they make something that's extremely insignificant and then they think it makes them prestigious and then not release it excepting people to beg for it. It's not a problem, it's just pathetic.
they're not expecting people to beg for it? here's a good brown townogy. a cook makes a really good meal for his restaurant. if he gave the recipe to everyone, nobody would go there. if a coder releases his mod, he doesn't have a popular server anymore. i can understand your point for a few things truce made (like the rope emitters) and i'm sure other people have made people beg for trivial mods, but it's not their duty and it's in their interest to keep their servers popular.

He means the point at which a programmer is "good" is subjective, e.g. my friends in my IT class and my dad all treat me as though I could hack the pentagon, while all I've really done is make small games with the one language I know fluently.

You are right in that skill or experience is measurable, comparable, and is not subjective.
this is exactly what i meant
Every coder I've ever had the displeasure of interacting with had been an arrogant egotistical roostery forgetcunt who was literally incapable of speaking to me in a way that wasn't condescending or boastful. The only coder here that I don't hate with every inch of my being is Arekan.

And they're like, neckbeards that worship linux or some stuff.

^ This too

And it is not jealousy, give me a loving break. I don't hate Badspot or Gabe Newell. I can't believe you'd actually be arrogant enough to call it jealousy, jfc. Nobody is jealous of a bunch of script kiddies on blockland who make stupid stuff and don't release it.
i think i know what's happening. all the egotistic coders make their skill known very quickly in meeting somebody. you never observe a non-egotistic coder because they keep it on the down low, unless they are explicitly asked/found coding. lots of my friends code, and they're very nice people.

It's easy to get big-headed from knowing simple programming. this is from a coder FYI
