why should you be the bigger person? here's the answer: being the bigger person makes you look better and also makes you look smarter. making it a habit might also make you actually smarter in situations.

I feel like I've tried to be basically respectful to most people here and it's very often not reciprocated if I don't agree with them. This forum is divided and people don't care to be kind.

you have no idea what you're talking about

it wasnt clear whether we were specifically talking about soldiers in WW2 or soldiers in general

you're still trying to compare a blind disease that people did not acknowledge (mind you even gays did not recognize the legitimacy of earlier reports because they didn't like the Reagan administration) to brainwashed lunatics bent on killing specifically YOU and capitalizing on their suicidal, cult-like behaviors to take over the world
a disease which disproportionately affected lgbt people that the reagan administration did little to stop

comparing victories inherently implies comparing struggles, in which saying your struggle is comparable to those faced by those soldiers is arrogant boasting at best

soldiers fought for the people who couldn't, in order to save their entire country, not just the people within their specified love, race, loveuality etc.
the threat was 100% lethal and it basically guaranteed that they had to give it their all or they would die

but yeah let's compare that to a group fighting for exclusively their group (because who else would benefit from same-love marriage) who has a small chance of being killed by super-bigots and the mentally-ill

yet soldiers are the ones who are able to choose to fight - lgbt people had/have to fight for equality, they had no other way of attaining it.

Millions in a war against people who wanted to take over the world? If anyone thinks what gays went through is comparable to what the soldiers went through they're loving handicapped. These guys went months at a time wondering if they would be next as they watched someone they've become friends with get their head blown to bits.

and lgbt people watched as HIV/AIDS killed their friends and families under the reagan administration. both are horrific

i just dont see a point in splitting hairs about which is worse or why one being worse makes this disrespectful. this image isn't comparing the suffering of soldiers and LGBT - its comparing their victories (its main statement is that LGBT people have won in their battle for rights)

perhaps if some parallel between soldiers suffering in trenches and lgbt people was being made i'd see the point yall are making. but the original image is triumphant not painful

sure showing support to possibly discriminated minorities in lgbt is an all-around good thing to do, but this is very much the wrong way to go about and do it---this shows support only in spirit and reallybthe only people that care about it are those against it, along with people who think that doing this actually does anything apart from provoking anti-lgbt and/or anti-black people against them

what im getting at is that if you want to show support to something, don't just say "black lgbt matters too" and slap them on something official, actually do something and don't change what's already working beautifully for the vast majority. doing this doesn't help in any good form, in fact it's quite the contrary

it seems like everyone is just supposing that no lgbt/black/both people care about this

Everyone in favor of the flag change keeps saying this, despite it not being true. The change is a useless, hollow sentiment that helps nobody.

Just because it's just a symbolic change doesn't mean it has no value

yes but why do stripes based on race need to be added to a flag with no relation to race? it's a rainbow because it represents inclusion of all sorts, not to support the blue people and purpleskins
anyways it's honestly tribal to not include the color white on there and go out of your way to add black stripes that shouldn't be there in any aspect whatsoever

youre basically questioning the whole philosophy of intersectionality - the addition of stripes based on race is done as a tacit show of support against racism in the LGBT community

white people aren't excluded in LGBT spaces based on their race so no it's not tribal

depending on how you look at it it implies one of two things:
1. white people can't be LGBTQ*
2. "black person" is now a gender
I object to both of these things and philly should keep these fights separate

the LGBT community has a racism problem absolutely

i'll say the addition of two stripes is probably not super elegant from a design perspective but i agree with the sentiment (that the community needs to be more welcoming of people that aren't white) and most people complaining about it are just uncomfortable with that sentiment moreso than the design

Linux distros are generally better if you want full control of your computer. Windows is beginning to tire me (they're dropping 7 + Win10 seems to invade your privacy + Win10 has forced updates + Win7 isn't even that good + a million other small things) and if more things start being compatible with Linux, particularly games, I would absolutely switch completely (for now I dual boot into Ubuntu for development stuff)

Windows absolutely isn't perfect, it's pretty much just enough to keep most people from looking for other options. The nice thing about Linux is that it's customizable enough that with enough know-how you can make it closer to perfect by tailoring it to your needs.
