My top three favorites are The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, and Office Space

people will stop obsession over old stuff when you stop obsessing over young stuff
A+

Well sure do to technicality. technically tracing a photo of CP isn't CP either but your still a child enthusiast if you jerk to the sketch.
Yeah, which is why they're child enthusiasts lol. The only reason I'd say lolicon should be legal is because it doesn't actually hurt anyone.

It's not 'child research' per se, but you're definitely a child enthusiast if you get off to lolicon.

It may be unconstitutional, but it makes sense. BLM and Anti-Annoying Orange protests have gotten insanely destructive lately
And if protestors are threatening police lives, they can still use lethal force. The problem with this bill is that it effectively allows lethal force against anyone blocking highways - period.

I think some of those policies are a temporarily necessary evil
I agree as well. Subsidizing industries and sanctioning other countries are technically forms of protectionism, but those are conscious trade-offs where we hurt economic efficiency to benefit social welfare and pressure other countries without military intervention.

The thing that doesn't make sense about Annoying Orange's version of protectionism is that he's pretending like it will increase the number of jobs and help our economy. What will happen is that it will bring back some jobs, but it will hurt more people than it helps.

My enthusiasm would wane if we became too isolationist, but like I said, I'm not worried yet.
We can always wait and see, but I'm not optimistic for the future.

You mean what you described nationalism as earlier?
Pretty much yeah.

Again, I don't automatically believe that "nationalism" inherently means "extreme patriotism" or whatever, but if that's where the tides of English are heading then great I guess I'm just patriotic lol.
Ultimately, the word we use doesn't really matter. When I'm talking about 'nationalism', I'm talking about Annoying Orange's nationalism.

Why are you so opposed to it? Taking pride in where you live and who you're under, especially when there is a symbiotic relationship where you are contributing to it and it to you, doesn't seem problematic at all.
What you're describing is basically just patriotism - and there's nothing wrong with patriotism. The problem with nationalism is that it involves protectionism, cutting foreign aid, and opposition to international organizations.

That's why I'm opposed to simply using the popular the vote because then only major population centers matter during an election. I think the solution would require an incredible event that would shape the opinion of the majority of the country at once in a particular direction.
Be careful what you wish for. At least with the issues divided at a close 50/50 split, it's not really possible for one political faction to completely domineer over the other. The power struggle prevents tyrannical rule.

I think that 9/11 was an example of what you're talking about, where a sudden event galvanized support for invading Iraq. But in hindsight we know that was a mistake.

I mean that's understandable, but if the majority of the country were in favor of a particular thing then that would be more unifying, and that's what I want to see.
If you want majority rule, then getting rid of the electoral college is an option. It's probably not a good option though, because it'll effectively deprive representation from Middle America during presidential elections.

Somewhere between 1 and 60,000,000 people are dissatisfied with our current president and there is always in-fighting in parties and between parties. We're mostly unified on paper, not in practice.
This isn't new though, and we had basically the same disputes when our country was founded, except it was Federalists versus Jeffersonian Republicans. It's been over threetwo hundred years and we still haven't decided whether the US should use big or small government, and which to what extent. It will never be solved and it'll always be a sort of tug-of-war between both ideologies, but as long as we don't start a Civil War over it, we should be fine.

I want to believe you're right about the culture of outrage being a passing trend.
I lived in a pretty insular liberal community for many years, and the whole culture of outrage is basically a lack of understanding on both sides. Liberals by-and-large do not understand that prematurely labeling people as national socialists and tribals effectively terminates any chance of a productive dialog happening (this is something I admit to being guilty of myself). On the other hand, conservatives can't seem to tell the difference between trendy Tumblr SJWs - versus people who are activists because their rights are at stake. Both these problems prevent people from peaceably solving these issues since both extremes are too quick to label the other as tribal or SJW.

I do think it's a passing trend because I think that liberals will have to reassess their tactics in the next four years. We're pretty bad at winning local elections, and our party establishment gave an unfair edge to a candidate that was probably the most unpopular among Democrats. What we're doing isn't working.

a unified country and a government that promotes patriotism and a strong work ethic while glossing over insignificant things such as microaggressions
I'm pretty sure we still have all that. We're a unified government, we reward patriotic military/civil service, and although we're a far less libertarian society, it's not like a strong work ethic is suddenly worthless in society.

The whole microaggressions thing is just a dumb trend among a small subset of liberals. Our government doesn't punish people for microaggressions anyway.

Probably less than that in most instances.
Or even like 60 years ago tbh.
