"Yeah, we'll write a totally-convincing report about Annoying Orange getting peed on by Russian prostitutes, that'll show 'em"
It's a good thing that Annoying Orange is starting to take some of the fake-news heat since maybe his constituency will actually help get rid of this trash.

The difference is how fast it's happening and how woefully unprepared pretty much everyone is. It's not just that they'd refuse to assimilate, given the circumstances of being quickly uprooted and rushed to a foreign country, they're most definitely going to have a hard time adjusting.
I don't think this is anything new though. It always takes time for immigrants to find employment/permanent housing. But it pays off in the long-run because we get more human capital and foster better relationships with foreign nations.

lmao this totally backfired on them though. Doesn't matter if it's fake, it's earned Annoying Orange plenty of ridicule on social media. It's honestly hilarious to watch the blowback.
So much fake news everywhere  :panda:

"Attempt to screen them" is a loaded phrasing. Our screening system is extremely robust and by-far the most thorough system in the world. We have an advantage in handling the refugee crCIA, as it's geographically impossible for thousands of Syrian migrants to pour in over our borders before we have time to prepare.

I consider the whole 'assimilation problem' to be a non-issue. Every migrant wave ever gets a backlash from naturally-born American citizens who claim that the immigrants will never assimilate. They always do. When's the last time you had some sort of culturally-driven conflict with the ancestor of an Irish immigrant?

Because they have to live somewhere temporarily while being processed and it'll take years to prepare asylum camps suitable for living. As far as I can tell, due to the rushed migration, a majority of countries taking in migrants were neigh unprepared.
I don't necessarily think it will take 'years' if the international community distributes the load. Part of the problem is that a lot of European countries received migrants who weren't even from Iraq or Syria, but were rather Saudi Arabians who were seeking economic refuge. The priority should clearly be the actually-displaced migrants.

That time came and passed
That really just depends on whatever your views are. Crimea is many times larger than the amount of land lost by Palestine to Israel, but we haven't heard the end of that dispute yet.

Just goes to show that iBuyPower is taking the same route as AlienWare. Their marketing strategy is basically this:
1. Brand themselves with MLG, high-tech aesthetic
2. Add a bunch of very inexpensive bells and whistles like LEDs, superfluous fans, and LCD displays on the side panel
3. Charge under-informed consumers 2-3x what they would pay if they just built a computer with the same specifications

Don't get screwed - build your computer.

Unless you keep your pc on top of a desk all the time (why) it's incredibly useless.

In my experience, it significantly limits the amount of dust in your computer. Of course if you've got wooden floors, it's probably useless.

Can't find any sources besides CBS News calling the move a defense against 'possible Russian invasion'.

Esme Nicholson summarizes it way better than their article:
Quote
NATO is also about to beef up armored presence along its eastern flank to alleviate anxiety in the Baltic States and Poland following Moscow's annexation of Crimea and its intervention in eastern Ukraine. Not only are they apprehensive about Russia. There's concern about President-elect Annoying Orange, who, in his campaign, remarked he might not come to the aid of smaller NATO nations if they don't pay their way.

There won't be any Russian invasion or WWIII - it's just posturing, like a middle-finger to Russia for annexing Crimea.

My prediction: A conveniently-timed tweet from Donald Annoying Orange decrying our role in NATO - that's totally not another thumbs-up towards Putin.

I've had only one of those in my life. Headache after the aura wasn't actually that bad - probably since it happened right before I went to sleep and not like, during the day at school.

What is Haven & Hearth?

Haven & Hearth is a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game) set in a fictional world loosely inspired by Slavic and Germanic myth and legend. The game sets itself apart from other games in the genre in its aim to provide players with an interactive, affectable and mutable game world, which can be permanently and fundamentally changed and affected through actions undertaken by the players. Our fundamental goal with Haven & Hearth is to create a game in which player choices have permanent and/or lasting effects and, thus, providing said players with a meaningful and fun gaming experience.

Players start the game surrounded by a vast and somewhat unforgiving wilderness, with only the most basic tools of survival at their disposal. The use of fire is a thematic focal point of the game's mythos, and an early and important task will be the simple lighting of one. As the first hearth fires disperse the darkness of the surrounding wilderness, more pressing questions will present themselves to the players: Who are they? Where are they? And, most importantly, where are they going? From this point on, players will have to blaze trails of their own into the unknown, the wilderness and the future, and explore and affect the world of Haven & Hearth using only their own best judgment and a chipped stone axe. Trust us, the stone axe is the stuff.

As players progress, they will be able to acquire new skills and abilities, allowing them to perform a variety of tasks—such as the claiming of land, the construction of buildings and the cultivation of crops—each step forward making the basic task of survival somewhat easier. Having progressed far enough, players will, in time, be able to organize themselves into societies, from simple tribes and villages, progressing through republics, nation states and, ultimately, empires.

Tl;dr
A bloodthirsty survival based game that features full-scale terraforming, a range of different skills, and a progression system based on crafting curiosities and eating different kinds of food.

What's changed since 2010?

The game has changed wildly over the past few years. In fact, about 8 months ago, it underwent a change into a completely new version: Haven & Hearth 2 (Hafen). There's 5x more content now and a completely different graphical interface than legacy Haven & Hearth. Everything is 3d now instead of isometric 2d, and the old, stuffty combat system has been revamped.

What's this business about 'A Blockland Tradition'?

You youngins on the forums might not remember this, but at a time, Haven & Hearth was the second most popular game thread on these forums. Different groups of forumers each ran their own towns, with Gamefandan, Bisjac, and Tikitai operating the largest villages. We'd all follow along as they'd expand, trade, and eventually get ransacked by other players.

Every time the world reset, we'd get a new thread. The largest of which was world 4. If you want to brush up on some ancient, 2010 forum politics, then head over to the old thread:

Where can I join other people?

This game is best played with other people because accomplishing anything requires a significant time commitment on your own. Even with a group of four people, you can expect a simple operation like setting up walls or flattening some land to take many hours. For this reason, your accomplishments in this game have special meaning, and people will go through great lengths to defend their societies in Haven & Hearth. There is an entire section on the forums dedicated to bounties for criminals and vandals.

Off Topic / Re: Voltage Question

Thing is, recently, the power stabilized at 245+-1 so it's constantly cutting and reconnecting the power. All of my equipment is rated 220-230. There won't be an issue to remove the stabilizer and connect directly to the network, right?
Not an electrician, but my intuition tells me that if you overvolt your equipment by 15-25V, you're probably gonna break something. I wouldn't do it.

b-but according to SeventhSandwhich CNN isn't fake news. They only have a little bit of a left wing bias.
I haven't seen the program he's talking about, but he mentioned that a 'guest' said this. In the interest of getting different perspectives on issues, I don't actually see a problem with bringing on a guest who thinks this. However, falsely reporting that this isn't a hate crime would be fake news.

It's hard to really judge this since he didn't post a clip or anything.

Sometimes I wish the Communists won the cold war just so pieces of stuff like this would be thrown in a gulag.
To be fair, we do have a gulag. It's called Guantanamo.

2833
Not gonna make excuses for this video. It's forgeted up on many levels.

All I want to point out is that if the roles were reversed in this, you all would be concocting tons of crazy conspiracy theories to justify what happened.

Off Topic / Re: Death Predictions for 2017
« on: January 04, 2017, 04:30:36 AM »
In the tradition of regular deadpools, I'm gonna try to pick ten right now and see how well they hold up for the year. I don't care what Freek says about 'clear indications of death', I'm picking Manson and it counts. He ain't dead yet. He wasn't shot in the head. Hospitalization is not a guarantee of death.

Queen Elizabeth II
Charles Manson
Billy Graham
Jimmy Carter
George H.W. Bush
Kirk Douglas
Bob Dylan
Recep Erdogan
Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi
James Randi

If I don't get at least 3 correct, I'll buy a video game for whoever picked best.

if you get killed by a sniper is it Self Delete
It depends. If the sniper is wearing a ghillie suit, it's murder, because how could you see someone that's totally invisible? If not, it's Self Delete.

I've got a bit of a request OP, could you allow people to edit their choice on the poll? I want to see if I've changed anyone's minds here.
