Then what year was America founded -.-
That's not what 'being good' at US history means. Understanding history means understanding how individual historical events play into long term historical trends. In other words, recognizing the fact that a long-standing history of poverty and government-enforced segregation among a certain group of people is going to have reverberating effects that last longer than just a couple of generations.

If I'm taking the bait here and you're just trying to troll, then tell me right now so that I don't have to waste more time trying.

Not so much when he says "you cunt", followed by the comments about being a weak child. The word is used both endearingly and as an insult. Unless I'm mistaken, McJob was calling Jitank a cunt in a negative way.
Yeah, you're probably right. I just find it funny how the definitions of 'cunt' and 'mate' are kind of reversed in Australia.

3707
Why are you caling me a cunt.
I mean, he's Australian, so it translates roughly to 'friend' or 'buddy'.

3708
So I take it you're a black guy living in poverty, with an excellent understanding of American History, then?
Here's the thing about that first point- I have never said anything that requires an understanding of what it's like to be black. It is a fact of social demographics that black people are disproportionately poor, and it's a fact of sociology that poverty pervades through multiple generations.

You are the one claiming that the problems in black society are the result of a victim complex, which is a claim that can only be substantiated by someone who has actually experienced what it is like to be black. In other words, my argument doesn't require being black and impoverished, while yours does.

On the second point, yes I'm pretty good at American history.

3709
Black people have all the same rights as anyone else.
As of like 50 years ago. Don't you think that maybe legally-enforced segregation from a couple of generations ago could have reverberating effects? Think about it for another ten seconds.

The reason alot of blacks aren't getting anywhere in life is because they blame the big guy instead of taking responsibility for their action.

You aren't black, you probably aren't living in abject poverty, and you probably have a below-average understanding of American history. What even remotely qualifies you as an expert on this?

Oh, but I'm not actually physically disabled yet. It's just that one of my ancestors was physically handicapped with the same disabilities and I could be disadvantaged at any time, so therefore I should receive special treatment because my genes come from less privileged origins.
My sympathies for your potential illness, but this brown townogy is terrible. If you are physically handicapped, you are disadvantaged. If you are not physically handicapped, you are not disadvantaged.

Likewise, if you were born black into a long lineage of poor black people, you are disadvantaged by the cycle of poverty. If you are an African prince emigrating to the United States in the 21st century, you are not.

In an attempt to steer this back onto the topic of the whole ceremony hijacking thing
That ship sailed a long time ago.

wow look at all those pages that explicitly state that you and/or your immediate family are currently being forced to pick cotton and do various other hard labor under threat of torture or death
Think about this for more than ten seconds: what possible ways could slavery (followed by decades of racial segregation) have on the socioeconomic status of a slave's descendants?

monday =/= Slavery. So wait by your logic black people calling other black people the N word is a byproduct of slavery?
I wouldn't say that it's a direct byproduct of slavery, but the racial hierarchy in the United States which created the word 'monday' was absolutely bolstered by slavery. If you disagree, what's your competing theory?

do I get to claim rights for myself because I'm not as privileged as those loving healthy white people?
I mean, if it restricts your ability to walk, you're probably entitled to one of those parking spots that don't make you walk as far. If you can't work, you're entitled to receive some of the benefits that our society has set up to make sure that disabled people don't just end up homeless. There's plenty of stuff you could potentially claim for yourself that an otherwise healthy person couldn't.

edit: I just remembered you're in Australia. Your country's benefits are probably even better than mine in these respects. I don't know for sure though because I don't live there.

1942 = Now, apparently. Thanks for the update, my good man.
I assumed what he meant by 'today's society' was industrialized society. Obviously we are not handing out smallpox blankets to Indian tribes anymore.

3712
I can say without a shadow of doubt that the stuff the colonists and frontiersmen did would not have been repeated in today's society.
Friendly reminder that the Indian wars continued up until 1924 in the American southwest.

3713
Second, be honest. Would you rather live in Africa or America?
This is a stuffty argument. If Africa was never treated as a place for Europeans to plunder people and resources from, it might actually be a decent place to live. People seem to forget that Africa is still recovering from decades of colonialism and the shock of having all established government and most infrastructure ripped out of the ground when African countries regained their sovereignty. Of course there would still be malaria, but you'd be surprised what actual houses and modern medicine can do to stem the spread of disease.

Barring an early end to colonialism, it's true that black people have it better off in the United States than in Somalia. But I'm guessing that if you told that to 18th century slaves, I don't think it would do much to make that experience any less horrible. It sure as hell doesn't justify it either.

3714
You're right about one thing -- I wouldn't discriminate against someone MERELY because their skin is black; however good indicator is may be.  I guess my overall point is that stereotypes exist for a reason.  There are always exceptions, that is just common sense.
Stereotypes do often come from statistics, but propagating those stereotypes and using them as a predictive tool is bad for society.

But the bottom line is that there's no hiding from the evidence.  There's a problem, and it's tied to a culture strongly associated with the black race.
Nobody is pretending like those statistics are false, but the central dogma of racism is that those statistics are because they're black, not because of the fact that black people have a different experience than whites.

I disagree with the usage of the word 'culture' because I feel like the implication is that culture comes about completely unaffected by the environment. Do you think maybe it's possible that the 'gangsta' culture comes from the fact that tons of black youth grew up in the 60s and 70s in cities full of organized crime? It seems pretty natural to me that poor youth would gravitate towards the people in society with money, women, and power.

3715
Those statics are racial, not socioeconomic.
They're one and the same because one of your cohorts here is more socioeconomically disadvantaged than the other.

Are you implying poverty is why they murder more?  So you're saying there's more poor blacks than whites? There's even more poor whites than poor blacks.
It's a combination of the fact that black people are generally more impoverished and the fact that large black populations tend to center around highly-populated cities. Population density is also highly predictive of violence, so while there's plenty of poor white people in tiny Midwestern towns, there's no big city gangs or major drug trafficking happening to lure more youth into crime.

The point I'm trying to make is that society cannot function if people go around treating other people badly because of one identifying feature which they associate with crime or violence. It creates a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts where the people deprived of opportunities birth children in an environment that produces violent criminals. There is a reason why black crime is the way that it is today, and it's very clearly tied to these kinds of biases.

3716
Black people commit more violent crime in general, by a very, very wide margin.  ESPECIALLY murders.
Poor black people are no more violent than poor white people though. Shouldn't your standard here be based on poverty?

3717
Anyways, where I live, the white people make up the vast majority of the populace.  It's really nice here and no mass shootings, bombing, stabbings or mondayish theft happens.
Have you ever considered that the reason why you haven't met anyone who hasn't matched those stereotypes is because you live in a place that's pretty much devoid of black people? I mean, the overall black population in Alaska is like 3%, and you probably live in a college campus. Can you count on more than two hands the number of times you've had extended interactions with black people?

3718
When was the last time you walked into the hood seeing a pack of those people, pants hanging at their knees, swaggering like a thug, and you think, boy those lives sure do matter soooo much.  And nobody has to second guess what race I'm referencing because everyone knows the truth.
I don't understand why the BLM movement is so incompatible with the conservative mindset. Shouldn't limiting the power of the police through body cameras jive well with the conservative philosophy of weak government?

3719
It's common knowledge that Japanese people get offended by Jap? You're not Japanese so how would you know it's common knowledge?
I'm not Black or Mexican either, but plenty of Japanese people have written about why it's offensive.

So because it's a slur Japanese people automatically are offended by it? What?
No, but there's definitely some causation there.

3720
So is cracker but that doesn't mean most whites are offended by it
It also wasn't a wartime slogan for slaughtering white people. White people aren't a minority group either, and I'd imagine it's easier to stomach slurs when you're on top. Not that it makes it okay to call people that.

Then where are you getting the "Most Japanese are offended by Jap" line
Again, it's common knowledge. I haven't read any studies, but I'd bet that my odds of pissing someone off by calling them a 'spic' or a 'monday' are pretty high.

If you can find me a large, outspoken group of Japanese people who think that the word is harmless, then I'll agree to be a bit more skeptical. You won't though because, surprise, it's still a slur!
