But they aren't? It's showing exactly what someone would want out of a graph.
What? Bad axes?

I wanted to see how much the value of the Pound had dropped and I got a graph showing data of relative values over the course of any specified time period.
The data isn't being plotted incorrectly, but the shape of the graph is deceptive. 'Relative values' can change based on how you choose to represent data.

To your point, having a graph set at zero can also be equally deceptive, showing far less change than it could actually be.
Indeed, but that's a separate issue.

I don't understand why you're arguing this representation of data when literally everyone else around the world, including businesses, don't have much a problem with it. Its representing data the way I can understand in relation to values of past.
Perhaps they should stop misrepresenting data.

I didn't plot the data, this is from widely used currency exchange websites. The purpose of a graph is to give visual representation of data.
That's the whole point- it poorly represents the data. I know that you didn't graph it, but that doesn't make it any less misleading.

If I wanted to see a flat line to help me understand the ebbs and flows of the value of a currency, I'd draw it in MS Paint and call it a day.
Clearly you're in it for the sensationalism then.

Billions upon billions of dollars are being lost in this because of this "small deceptive" change.
I didn't say it wasn't a legitimate currency crash? Just that your graph is bad. The way you plotted the data made it look like the pound lost 80% of its value.

Starting at '1' is sometimes acceptable when you're comparing something to a standard unit like the US dollar. Notice how the graph you linked used sizable intervals to show meaningfully large trends. Regardless, your graph wasn't doing any of that lol.

Also why would the Y show 0?

[more deceptive graphs]
Because graphs that don't start at 0 are inherently deceptive? You can make it look like something has diminished by whatever percentage you want when you start the y-axis on some other value. This is like lesson 1 of how to mislead people with data.

Yes, the British pound is in a pretty bad place right now, but you're making it look worse than it actually is.

image illegibly small and y-axis deceptively set above 0.

I want to see if the blue goes over 100%

Which it probably will
what

the best solution to this is to genetically engineer humans to be bullet proof
give everyone harlequin ichthyosis

There would be an increase in price between a firearm manufactured here and sold legally compared to one manufactured elsewhere and smuggled in, all while evading law enforcement.
Yes, and a gun ban would have somewhat of an impact on the amount of gun violence perpetrated by gun consumers (as did prohibition on alcohol consumption).

You have to balance whether a small amount of saved lives will balance out depriving people of a legitimate form of self-defense, plus all of the fatalities that will be associated with maintaining the new black market for firearms.

And unless you ban all types of guns (which you shouldn't), restricting criminals to fewer types of guns isn't likely to make much of a dent on the number of gun fatalities in the US. The vast majority of murders in the US are committed with handguns.

3776
plus violent crime is down a stuffload as is. we can have 10 fold more mass shootings per year and still be safer by thew decade then we were. its not even a big deal.
I think the single biggest factor when it comes to gun violence is the overall wealth inequality in the US. The vast majority of shootings are not the big, publicized ones, but the smaller ones that usually occur between minorities in poor neighborhoods.

Investing in better schools and more opportunities for poor young people is definitely the best strategy for lowering overall gun violence. Unfortunately, people like to hyper-focus on publicized incidents and feel-good solutions like trying to ban as many guns as possible. It's easier in the short-term but won't have any significant results.

pro gun control people go on and on about background checks. but they are already pretty thorough. i dont think they are aware that they are taking place.
The reason why I believe that gun control wouldn't have stopped the Orlando shooting is because the shooter already encountered difficulties purchasing firearms. The first guy that he went to buy from turned him away for being sketchy. And then, all he did was circumvent it by going to someone else. Same thing would probably have happened if he was stopped by law instead.

"Shooters brought an average of four weapons to each shooting; one carried seven guns. We don’t know how all the guns were acquired, but of the ones we know, 140 were obtained legally and 39 were obtained illegally."
Operating off of these statistics, you're probably assuming that a gun ban would have resulted in shooters having 140 less firearms, but that's not correct. Shooters will purchase guns through the most convenient channel available.

For instance, let's say that in 1919, 98% of the alcohol consumed in the United States was legal (made-up figures but probably close to reality). Did prohibition result in a 98% drop in alcohol consumption?

Ban hairspray.

3777
On one hand, I don't consider banning certain guns to be a major erosion of gun rights. On the other hand, I don't think it's actually going to do much to stop shootings like the one in Orlando.

3778
I'm impressed by the effort that has gone into this.

You realize that "uncanny valley" doesn't mean weird? In fact, the whole idea is that they look alllllmoooost normal. In this case a person who's completely female looking except for a slightly too masculine facial bone structure would cut the bill. Like, for something to be uncanny it needs to be hardly noticeable so you can barely put your finger on what's wrong.
You realize that "uncanny valley" doesn't mean weird? In fact, the whole idea is that they look alllllmoooost normal.
I thought the reason why it's called a 'valley' is because things that almost look normal are perceived as really weird looking?

I don't think that unusual facial features fall into uncanny valley unless they're like, very, very dramatic. For instance, I'd say vampire girl fits.

3780
Half of the forgeters in the video there live right in the uncanny valley.
I wouldn't say half. Other than green lipstick girl and the vampire, everyone in the video looks pretty normal. Some of them you can definitely tell are transgender, but they're not outwardly weird looking.
